Update on Flanigan, Tapping, Phillips

Stargate stars Amanda Tapping and Joe Flanigan are featured in this week’s episode of The Jace Hall Show! The show is geared toward the gaming community, but it’s not unusual for Hall to have a chat with television and film celebrities. And be warned, sometimes these interviews show sides of people we never knew they had!

Episode 8:

Play.com: UK Release Dates for SGA S5 DVDs

Play.com (UK) has posted the release dates for the individual volumes (5 in all) for Stargate Atlantis Season Five in the Region 2 format (European). The unconfirmed cover art for each volume is also included in their listings:

The website doesn’t have a list of episodes and special features that each volume will contain, but it appears you can pre-order the discs. Amazon.co.uk also has the discs listed, but has different release dates. The first volume’s release date of May 11 seems to be agreed upon at both sites, however.

The Season Five boxed set in Region 1 (North America) is due to hit the shelves June 30, 2009.

Peter DeLuise Answers Fans’ Questions

Peter DeLuise

Joseph Mallozzi has published the fan Q&A he hosted at his weblog with Peter DeLuise, who returned to the Stargate franchise to direct the Stargate Universe episode “Fire”.

As usual, DeLuise’s sense of humor is sprinkled throughout the Q&A as he revisits the beginning of his career with the franchise, shares his favorites, and thoughtfully considers the tough canon questions. At the conclusion, he said, “… most importantly thanks to all of you who have taken the time to write your questions and watch this show and support the Stargate ā€˜Organismā€™ that is changing and growingā€¦ because of YOU. ā€¦you rock!”

The Q&A contains no spoilers for Stargate Universe, so feel free to visit the weblog and enjoy all of its contents.

Stargate Atlantis star Rachel Luttrell hosts a special look at the series finale “Enemy at the Gate” in a short video feature at the MGM official website.

After providing a brief synopsis accompanied by clips from the episode, Luttrell concludes, “It’s about us stopping the destruction of mankind.” The episode includes space battles and lots of action, as well as another sci-fi staple: alternate realities.

Visit MGM: Enemy at the Gate for the video featurette.

According to Stargate Actor Appearances, Luttrell’s next public appearance will be at Collectormania Milton Keynes from June 5 through 7, 2009, at the MK Dons Stadium in Milton Keynes, England.

Script for Stargate Atlantis Movie Completed

Joseph Mallozzi has finished the first draft of the Stargate Atlantis movie script! His writing partner Paul Mullie completed his portion earlier this month and then handed it over to Mallozzi for his half.

Here’s what Mallozzi said in his weblog, “…Iā€™m very happy with the story we have and with our ending in particular. Some doors are opened, some slammed shut (rather violently), while others are left ajar for future explorationā€¦in the next big adventure provided the fans support this one. Not quite as long as I expected but, given the action sequences, it still may clock in with a robust running time.”

It’s very possible that the script will go through some changes before the filming begins, but since Mallozzi and Mullie worked from a very detailed outline, the chances are that there will be only a few revisions. Then, it’s on to prep work, with Andy Mikita slated to direct.

Now, the next part is SPOILERY, so avert your eyes if you wish to remain in blissful anticipation:

“Yes, all of the regulars and semi-regulars youā€™ve grown to know and love are in play – Sheppard, McKay, Teyla, Ronon, Woolsey, Keller, Zelenka, Lorne, Beckett, Chuck, Banks, and Todd – in addition to a couple of surprise guest stars. But more on them as we draw closer to the that first day of principal photography. As for when that will beā€¦no firm date yet but Iā€™m still banking on a fall production alongside the SG-1 movie.”

Way back when talk of the movie was first starting, Mallozzi told Solutions in an exclusive Q&A, “Itā€™s very possible that weā€™ll have, at the very least, limited crossover. Given the story weā€™ve been spinning, it would make sense to see Carter, Daniel, and Tealā€™c pay Atlantis a visit.” Could these characters’ actors be the surprise guest stars?

Make sure you visit Joseph Mallozzi’s weblog regularly to get all of the details, but be aware that he mixes his Stargate tidbits (including those for Stargate Universe) in with his other interests. Catching Up with Robert Picardo

MGM Robert Picardo

SCI FI WIRE talked with Stargate star Robert Picardo about his pivotal role in the new television series Persons Unknown. The first season consisted of 13 episodes, and Picardo played such a pivotal role in the show that he couldn’t name his character without giving away the whole story!

Picardo explained the premise, “It’s reminiscent of the classic Patrick McGoohan series The Prisoner. It’s about these people who are strangely abducted and held against their will and are apparently being studied or manipulated. It’s a very exotic, paranoid premise for a show.”

Other actors include Alan Ruck, Chadwick Boseman, Gerald Kyd, Kate Lang Johnson and Kandyse McClure. Picardo revealed that the show is from Chris McQuarrie, who wrote The Usual Suspects, and is executive produced by Remi Aubuchon, who also wrote the Caprica pilot along with Ron Moore.

Right now, the show, which was filmed in Mexico, has been sold to countries in South America and Europe, but hasn’t been picked up by a US network yet. Picardo said that if the show gets a second season, he’ll be a recurring cast member.

In the meantime, you can catch Picardo in one of the final three episodes filmed for Pushing Daisies, which was not renewed for another season. His episode “Water and Power” is due to be shown on the UK’s ITV1 this Friday, April 24, and on ABC in the US on June 6. Check your local listings for exact times.

Also, make sure to visit MGM: Message from Picardo to watch a brief video message from the actor who appreciates the welcome he received once his Stargate character Richard Woolsey joined the regular cast for the final season of Stargate Atlantis.

According to Stargate Actor Appearances, Picardo is due to make several public appearances over the coming months, the next upcoming being FedCon XVIII from May 1-3, 2009, in Bonn, Germany.

MGM is continuing to post short video segments of those involved with the final season of Stargate Atlantis at their official Stargate website. This time, it’s Robert Picardo’s turn to say “thank you” to the fans for giving Richard Woolsey a chance as the new commander of the Atlantis Expedition.

“I would like to say thank you to the Stargate fans for giving Woolsey a chance,” Picardo said in the short (31-second) video. “Not a very cuddly character; didn’t seem to be a good choice to take over after Colonel Carter left; and you gave him a chance; you welcomed him in. And I think he’s been growing as a leader, so I thank you for putting up with him because, let’s face it, he started out as a kind of [BEEP].”

Visit MGM: Message from Picardo to watch the full video.

According to Stargate Actor Appearances, Picardo is due to make several public appearances over the coming months, the next two upcoming being StarFest from April 17-19, 2009, in Denver, Colorado, and FedCon XVIII from May 1-3, 2009, in Bonn, Germany.

Jason Momoa on Ronon Dex

Steve Eramo of SciFiandTVTalk.com has another lengthy interview with a star from Stargate Atlantis: this time with Jason Momoa who joined the cast in Season Two.

One of the highlights from the interview: “Iā€™ve been with this role for four seasons, and at the end of my first year playing him I really began to grasp the character, so much so that now itā€™s easy to slip into. As far as the action goes, itā€™s a lot easier than it used to be. I mean, Iā€™ve been walking in these shoes for a long time, and Iā€™m going to be a little sad when this show ends and Iā€™m not playing Ronon. Iā€™ve never really felt that way before. This is the hardest role Iā€™ve ever had. Thereā€™s no way that I relate to most of the stuff he does, but I really like Ronon and I think the writers have done a good job with him.”

Visit SciFiandTVTalk.com: Jason Momoa: At Home on Atlantis for the complete interview that concentrates mostly on Ronon during Season Five.

Momoa can currently be seen on Friday nights at 8:30 on The CW’s The Game. According to Stargate Actor Appearances, his next public appearance is scheduled for July 10-12 in Baltimore, Maryland, for Shore Leave 31.

MGM: “Momoa Says Goodbye” to Atlantis

Stargate Atlantis star Jason Momoa shares his feelings about the end of Atlantis as a television series. The video clips used in “Momoa Says Goodbye” include his “wrap”, his last scene filmed for the show.

“It’s like high school, you know? Four years. It’s my senior—it’s my last class before I go out those doors,” he shared with the interviewer. Momoa says that Ronon was a fun character to play and that he doesn’t think he’ll ever play a character quite like him again. “That in itself is gonna be sad, but that’s gonna take a while to kick in, you know?”

Momoa has moved on from Ronon, making guest appearances in other productions (he currently can be seen in The CW’s The Game on Fridays at 8:30 PM), but SGA movie script writer Joseph Mallozzi has apparently written Ronon into the story. If things go according to plan, Momoa will get to expand on Ronon’s character and might even get to sport a new do for the occasion!
