9.13 "Ripple Effect" Episode Guide
Précis
When alternate realities collide, duplicate SG-1 teams arrive at the SGC. They're facing great challenges in their own realities but it might not be possible to send them home. The "real" SG-1 soon learns that not all teams are exact duplicates — some of them are more desperate to save their worlds than others.

"I started beating out an outline for our next script that, if all goes as planned, may see the return of a much-loved, sorely-missed character. It's a fun episode with plenty of complications, twists, humor, and mini-revelations. All of our main characters have something to do and have their opportunity to shine. It will be an episode that fans, both new and old, will enjoy." — Joseph Mallozzi, Exec. Producer, Writer.
This episode was formerly named "Convergence", then "Merge", and then "Echoes", before finally being named "Ripple Effect".
"Ripple Effect - well, can't say much without giving this one away but, suffice it to say, we'll see plenty of Carter in this episode." — Joseph Mallozzi in his Q&A thread at GateWorld.
"Plenty of Daniel in Ripple Effect as well." — Joseph Mallozzi in his Q&A thread at GateWorld.
"[We] started prep on Ripple Effect (now this one is a confusing script. The concept meeting clocked in at a little over 3 hours!). Peter DeLuise is the perfect director for this particular episode." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.
In an exclusive interview with Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi conducted by Marla R. Reed entitled "The Best of Both Stargates", a question was raised concerning the return of Vala. Mallozzi's response was, "This is science fiction. No one is gone forever. Just check out Ripple Effect."
"Peter DeLuise certainly has his hands full as he preps not one, but two episodes this week: Ripple Effect and Stronghold. On the bright side (for me), given that I'm only producing one of the two episodes, I only had to sit in on half the meetings. Still, the two hour Extras Meeting had to be a record. The stunts meeting, on the other hand, lasted a grand total of thirty seconds — so there's another record right there. To top off the day, we finished with the Visual Effects and Playback meeting. Whooweee. Try explaining the science behind this episode in a nice, neat, concise manner. And I thought time-travel episodes were confusing. Suffice it say, however, we're working with some brilliant people and I have the utmost confidence in Krista, our Playback Supervisor, to come up with some kick-ass graphics that will effectively explain it all — or die trying. The Visual Effects portion of the meeting took about another two hours, but Peter and Michelle Comens (our VFX Producer on SG-1) came up with some very cool shots and sequences for the various scenes. This episode is going to be a lot of fun." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.
"We started production on Ripple Effect on Monday [July 25]. After seeing the first day of dailies, I had to give Peter DeLuise a call to tell him how much I loved what I'd seen. Especially Kvasir. He's a hoot." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.
"On SG1 we will be introducing a brand new Asgard character. His name is Kvasir, and he's very well written. I don't think he's had a lot of human contact and he gets frustrated with some of the crew. They have lent a powerful weapon to SG1, and Kvasir needs to make sure its used properly." — Morris Chapdelaine, Asgard Puppeteer in an interview at Stargate Ultimate.
"Stargate issues in Ripple Effect and Off the Grid." — Joseph Mallozzi in his Q&A thread at GateWorld. A "Stargate issue" is when the technology of the Stargate is part of the problem, such as in 2.15 "A Matter Of Time" and 5.14 "48 Hours". It has been speculated that this particular episode has a type of alternate reality feel to it by bringing back a deceased character. Many fans have speculated that the deceased character, the "much-loved, sorely missed" one, is Dr. Janet Fraiser whose death in 7.18 "Heroes Part 2" has been greatly mourned in fandom.
Rumors about Teryl Rothery [Dr. Janet Fraiser] filming an episode are still going strong. She did confirm on her website that she was filming for a sci-fi series in late July or early August, but she didn't name the show. Various other sources (SG1 Spoilergate, GateWorld) have placed her on the set of Stargate SG-1 and filming flashback scenes for "Ripple Effect". Joseph Mallozzi has clarified some of the misunderstandings about the episode, but still has not revealed if the mystery character is Dr. Fraiser:
"Speaking of Ripple Effect - I received a heads up that the episode is timing long, which invariably means I may have to lose a scene or two. If I do, however, chances are very good you'll get to see or, at the very least, read the scenes that don't make the cut. Also, I read a report that the mystery character I've been referring to with regard to this episode will only be appearing in flashbacks. Let me be clear. There are NO flashbacks in Ripple Effect." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.
"Paul and I finished our prod cut of Ripple Effect and the episode looks great. As I thought, I had to lose a couple of scenes (the Lam-Landry walk and talk opening, and the Mitchell-Daniel "debate" on the ship), but hopefully you'll get to see the scenes - or, at the very least, read them when I post them after the episode airs." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.
