Kendra
Summary
Kendra was a former host to a Goa'uld symbiote and was freed from it by Thor's Hammer on the planet Cimmeria. She was introduced in the episode, 1.10 "Thor's Hammer".
Character Biography
Kendra had to face her fears in order to help Dr. Daniel Jackson and Capt. Samantha Carter find their missing teammates who were transported into "the labyrinth" where Thor's Hammer awaited them. She had been host to a Goa'uld and was chosen because she was beautiful (the Goa'uld are very vain about their appearances). Because she had been trained in the temple on her home planet of Jebanna, she was able to use her mental discipline to tempt her captor to go to Cimmeria to find the treasures waiting for those who were bold enough to take them. Kendra's Goa'uld was in the service of Marduk.
Before leaving on their trek into the mountains, Kendra demonstrated that she was able to continue to use Goa'uld technology, namely the healing device, when a young boy asked for healing. Daniel and Carter were at first leery of trusting her, but Gairwyn, the leader ("mistress") of her people, reassured them that Kendra was a trusted citizen of their community after she was freed of the Goa'uld. Kendra had been found wondering in the mountains in the cold of winter by hunters and decided to stay among the people and adopt their ways, which included worshiping Thor, whom she said spoke to her through thunder.
Kendra was extremely scared of the labyrinth where Col. Jack O'Neill and Teal'c had been transported as soon as the Goa'uld symbiote was discovered in Teal'c at the stargate when they arrived on the planet. She decided to help Daniel and Carter because she thought that Thor had instructed her to do so. During their journey, Daniel and Kendra talked about what it was like for Kendra to be host to a Goa'uld and how it was for her when she was freed. He was asking these questions because of his concern for Sha're, whom he admitted to Kendra that he thought about all the time and still loved greatly. Kendra gave Daniel hope that Sha're could be saved, if she were brought to Cimmeria and walked through the Hammer.
Kendra lead them up to the site of where she exited the mountain and warned them that there was a creature still alive in there. This creatured was an Unas who was host to a Goa'uld. He had been there for quite some time because he could not leave. If he tried to go through the doorway to the outside, Thor's Hammer, a device which kills the symbiote, would activate. Only the host could leave.
Kendra was not happy about helping a Jaffa. She felt that Teal'c deserved his imprisonment in the labyrinth, but Daniel assured her that Teal'c had joined them in the fight against the Goa'uld. Kendra was still not sure until she finally met Teal'c in the labyrinth. When Teal'c said that he would remain in the labyrinth in order that the Hammer not be destroyed because he knew that Sha're and Skaara could benefit from it, Kendra realized that he was indeed a member of the SG-1 family. Jack asked Daniel to destroy the Hammer with Teal'c's staff weapon so that they could continue with Teal'c. With a heavy heart, Daniel obliged.
When SG-1 was ready to leave Cimmeria, Kendra gave Daniel a small stone with a hammer symbol etched into it as a remembrance of Cimmeria. Daniel, in turn, gave Kendra a Sagan Institute Box, a small box which had Earth's point of origin symbol and depictions of a man, woman, boy, and girl on the lid. Inside the box was information about Earth's cultures, religions, and histories.
Heru'ur discovered Cimmeria was safe to conquer when his scouts were able to go through the stargate and return unharmed. He attacked with great force and killed many people, including Kendra. Gairwyn's husband and his brothers were killed when they sent the Sagan Institute Box through the stargate to Earth which Kendra had given them. She knew that SG-1 would come once the box was received.
Gairwyn gave Carter Kendra's Goa'uld technology because she was able to use it (as a result of having naquadah in her blood due to her blending with the Tok'ra symbiote Jolinar of Malkshur). This included the hand (ribbon) device and hand-held healing device. (2.06 "Thor's Chariot")
