Jolinar of Malkshur
Jolinar of Malkshur was a Goa'uld symbiote who was a Tok'ra operative and took Samantha Carter as a host (2.02 "In The Line Of Duty").
Jolinar preferred to have a female human host, but when she was hiding from an Ashrak, a Goa'uld assassin, she took a Nasyan man named Quinta as her temporary host. When this man was killed during the attack from which SG-1 was helping the people evacuate, Jolinar transferred to Samantha Carter while Carter was giving the dying man mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. After Jolinar's presence was detected, she was locked up at the SGC base and made the perfect target for the Ashrak who had tracked her down. The Ashrak used a powerful weapon on her and had to leave her for dead because he was about to be discovered at the SGC. The Ashrak was killed by Teal'c in the embarkation room. Jolinar sacrificed her life in order that Carter live (2.02 "In The Line Of Duty").
Jolinar's death sent Carter into a depression, but with the help of her friends, she was able to overcome it. Having now been a host to a Goa'uld symbiote, Carter was left with naquadah in her blood which enabled her to operate Goa'uld technology, such as the ribbon device and healing device (2.06 "Thor's Chariot"), and sense the presence of a symbiote (2.05 "Need"). Because Jolinar died inside of Carter's body, Carter was also given a protein marker which helped her to be immune to Goa'uld-killing inventions left behind by Ma'chello (3.04 "Legacy").
Carter also kept some of Jolinar's memories because of the blending. Her recalling of these memories led the SGC in making contact with the Tok'ra, those Goa'uld who are descended from Egeria, the one who founded the Tok'ra movement (Tok'ra means against Ra) (4.04 "Crossroads"). Upon making first contact with the Tok'ra, Carter learned more about Jolinar from her mate, Martouf/Lantash. Martouf was the name of the human man who hosted the symbiote named Lantash, and as one, they had loved Jolinar for about one hundred years. Martouf and Lantash were mourning Jolinar's death, as well as the presumed death of Jolinar's previous female host, Rosha. (2.11 "The Tok'ra Part 1")
Jolinar, as a Tok'ra operative, lived a very intense life. She was the only person known to have successfully escaped the "inescapable" Netu, the Goa'uld System Lord Sokar's version of Hell. When Carter's father, Jacob, and his Tok'ra symbiote, Selmak, were captured by Sokar and sent to Netu, Martouf/Lantash enlisted the help of Carter in trying to recall Jolinar's memories of how Jolinar escaped. Jolinar never spoke of her time in Netu, for she was tortured severely. She had returned to her people in a cargo ship and never said how she had escaped. Carter, with the help of a memory recall device, was able to call up Jolinar's memories of her time in Netu and discovered how it was that she was able to escape. Rosha/Jolinar gained access to the Lord of Netu Bynarr's private chambers and obtained the key to the controls of a ring transporter from Bynarr after he fell asleep. She acquired one of Sokar's cargo ships and escaped. Carter was very upset about having to reveal such intimate information to Martouf and continued to reassure him that Jolinar loved him even unto her death (3.12 "Jolinar's Memories" and 3.13 "The Devil You Know").
After Jolinar recovered from her injuries on Netu, she found herself on another mission to overthrow one of the System Lords. She was found out and the System Lords sent a hired assassin, the Ashrak, after her. Carter identified the System Lord Cronus as the one who sent the Ashrak after Jolinar (3.03 "Fair Game"). It was during Jolinar's run from the Ashrak that she transferred into the Nasyan Quinta and hid within him for several months. Then, the attack on Nasya occurred and that was when Jolinar forced herself into Carter (2.02 "In The Line Of Duty").
