[Regarding the new season, Exec Producer Robert C.] Cooper states, “We’re basing a lot more stories around the SGC partly because of the economics and also because SG-1 has become less of an exploratory unit and more of a defense. We’re looking forward to the challenge of keeping our stories exciting and appealing and as interesting as they alwyas have been from this new perspective.”
[Regarding O’Neill’s promotion to Brigadier General, Richard Dean Anderson says:] “Being the man in charge is not going to make much difference,” he suggests. “I got away with virtual murder playing a colonel, and was irreverent at that rank, so essentially I’m a higher-ranking officer with my same sensibilities and relative insanity. […] Sure there are changes in all of their [SG-1 team’s] lives, but the camaraderie and the friendship and that closeness is still there.”
[Amanda Tapping confirms that Carter will continue her relationship with Detective Pete Shanahan.] “I mean for sure, Carter loves O’Neill. She adores him, and she’s allowed herself the knowledge that she cannot keep pining for this man that she can never have. […] I think what she’s learned to do is to be a pragmatist about it and say, ‘OK! I can’t have this guy [O’Neill], and he is pretty fantastic, but this guy over here [Pete] is not so bad either.’ […] Plus he’s cute and he’s charming and is a great kisser.”
“I’m glad we’re doing another year,” says Tapping. […] “It is going to be different this year, and I hope the fans like the direction the show will be taking. It’s a natural progression, and I think it will be well received.”
[Explaining why he returned for an eighth season, Anderson says,] “I just like to work, and I think that my presence to some degree is helping the transition both in taking Stargate further and bringing Atlantis forward.”
[On the SG-1 team dynamic, he says,] “I’m talking a lighter role this year in order to free some time to devote to other facets of my life, but no matter what happens with regard to our physical locations or what happens in the stories this year, SG-1 will remain a team. We always have been and always will be.”
Damn i dont like pete at all he just gets on my tits all day long… i cant even watch Chirima anymore becuase of there PONITLESS dating. Myself i suppose i would like S&J but no on the show off screen damn it.
More stories based in and around the SGC. hmmm. Is this now SGC SG1? I thought it was about the stargate, about finding allies, technology, stuff to help them defend themselves against the Goa’uld. Didn’t they use up the ancient weapon found at the Antartic? Surely they should be going through the stargate more than ever now that the rebel jaffa/tok’ra/tau’ri alliance has broken down?? I’m very confused. Or maybe the writers are.

I’m sure Pete would be ecstatic to know that Carter is essentially settling by keeping him around. ‘If I can’t continue to harbor inappropriate feelings for my CO, I might as well shack up with a cute guy who can kiss well’ as opposed to ‘Wow, this guy is really something; I can see myself falling for him.’ Hey, I know *I’d* be swooning.
Also good to know that exactly what I’d hoped *wouldn’t* happen is now going to be the focus of the show — SG-1 changed from a first contact flagship team to three people who sit around the base and barely utilize that big round thing which the show was named for.
I am sick, sick, sick, sick to death of Stargate: The life and loves of Sam Carter. I want the old Stargate back. That show was about team, exploration, a big round thing called a Stargate. It had characters of integrity who cared about eack other. So Sam has finally realized she can never have Jack so she is willing to settle for Pete. What does that say about SuperSam as a person. Not someone I would want as a friend. I have not yet decided if I will even watch Season Eight and articles lessen my enthusiam even more.
I have to agree with Melinda and others who aren’t interested in Sam’s love life, as cute as Pete is. The amazing thing is it seems no part of fandom is happy with this development! I guess time will tell whether Sam’s romantic interests overshadow Season 8 the way they did the latter half of Season 7.
I want to see more Daniel Jackson and more of his Grandfather and more of Jack O’Neill and I wish Season 9 and 10. Please, stop to put Sam in the center of STARGATE. Usually, it had to be stories around Dr. Daniel Jackson. I like to see something like “Need” or “Legacy” or “Holiday” again or “Crystall Skulls”… It doesn’t mean that I don’t like Sam and Teal’c. But they have had enough space in the last. Now change again, Please!!!
Stargate died when Daniel did. Its not stargate anymore , It is a different show get used to it. As long as I can still watch and see the characters I like, I can tolerate the change. As long as michael and RDA are there I will survive it.
