Shanks' CSI: Miami Episode Re-Airs Monday

The CSI: Miami episode “Payback”, guest-starring Michael Shanks, will air again on CBS on Monday, April 17, at 9 pm/8pm Central. Michael plays the boyfriend of a woman who survived a rape years before.

Screen captures from the original airing in December ’05 are available here. Note the lovely blue shirt, which matches the lovely blue eyes. Perhaps the shirt was a reason for the show getting the highest ratings of any prime-time show that week. 🙂

Thanks to Elyse at sg1_spoilme for the tip on the repeat airing!

Sci Fi Monday Snippets

Tonight’s theme seemed to be “episodes graced by the presence of Harry Maybourne,” but the interspersed interviews with the cast didn’t really touch on that. Here is a transcript of the snippets, with grateful thanks to Elyse of sg1_spoilme for writing them and giving us permission to use them.

Ben Browder

“Directors are like your children. You love them all equally, plus Andy Mikita? He’s da man! (grins) Andy Mikita directed the first episode that I did in Stargate so he has a very special place in my heart. And then Will, and Peter (Deluise). The relationship between an actor and a director is sometimes really quick. They come in, and they go, and then they come back again. You’re constantly dating new directors… Did I just say that out loud?” (laughs)

Claudia Black

“I really liked watching the Earth-based episodes on Stargate. I know what it’s like when they always go out on location and they’re in another forest… you know it’s another forest planet. And you know the trials and tribulations of finding unique locations. I don’t know if it’s because I personally have spent a few years working on another show (Farscape) in an alien environment but I’ll just be looking for the episodes that allow me to explore that more.”

Stargate Atlantis (Season 3 Sneak-Peak)

[visual: Dex from a flashback; director’s board, gate opening, director’s board, wraith in gray dingy complex, Atlantis rising SCIFI SNEAK PEAK, then…]

Announcer: “And now, an exclusive SciFi Channel sneak peek at an all new season of Stargate Atlantis”

Joe Flanigan: “We did just finish an episode that was pretty big.”

[visual: Sheppard aboard Daedalus, explosions, cut to Dex in new scene, firing guns with both hands, flinging himself across room.]

Jason Momoa: “My character was beating the **** out of everyone.”

[Teyla stickfighting with Michael from “Michael”, cut to scene of Wraith henchmen walking through village]

Rachel Luttrell: “Martial arts, different fighting technique…”

David Hewlett: “We’ve, like, blown up everything.”

Torri Higginson, but as WEIR: “Apparently he’s found something of interest.”

Joe Flanigan: It’s about as big as an episode as we shoot.

Announcer: Stargate Atlantis. New episodes return this July. Part of an all new SciFi Friday.

Michael Shanks

“I strongly believe that the success of the show has been about good storytelling and the chemistry of the original cast, and it’s never going to be the same as the original group but we don’t want it to be. That was it’s own puritanical, wonderful thing. And this group – what is the most important thing is the audience needs to care about these people – if they don’t, then all the explosions and things blowing up is for naught. I mean these people are in jeopardy; you really have to worry ‘are they going make it?’ because I care about them, and the characters care about each other, then the audience will too.”

Beau Bridges

“I think what’s remarkable as a newcomer sort of on their team is they’re very relaxed as performers and comfortable in the skin of their characters. Through that relaxation you get a lot of sort of surprises, which I think is good. The guy who keeps us laughing, of course, is Chris Judge. Sometimes it’s hard to get down to the serious job of killing aliens when Chris starts fooling around, but he’s a professional, and we have a good time on the set.”

Baby Shanks and Other Vancouver News

Lots of news is coming out of this weekend’s Creation Stargate Convention in Vancouver, B.C.

First, Michael Shanks and Lexa Doig are the proud parents of a new baby boy, Samuel David Shanks, born around March 19 (not a firm date; Michael said 6 days ago as of yesterday). Many congratulations to Michael and Lexa on their first boy! As reported by MSOL earlier, Michael is taking off 2 episodes of filming to be there for the new baby, and that time started last week, so the timing worked out perfectly.

For excellent, very close-up photos of all of the con events, visit this site: GenreFans.com. The pictures of Michael from his Saturday appearance are particularly great!

Big news was reported by Annie at OurStargate on Season 10 guest stars (highlight to read):Richard Dean Anderson will be returning for guest appearances in Season 10. According to producer N. John Smith, RDA misses working on the show and would like to come back for some guest shots. There is no word on which episodes he might appear in, for example, the big 200th episode, which will begin filming in early April. Perhaps the show will finally make clear what General O’Neill has been up to.

Speaking of the 200th episode, word from various quarters is that it will be (highlight to read):A very funny, reportedlyl even hilarious episode that will poke fun at the show but with the audience in on the joke.

Stay tuned for more reports out of Vancouver, though sadly none of your Solutions reporters are there.

Michael Shanks Audio Interview

Michael Shanks has given an audio interview to SciFi Talk. The mp3 file is available for downloading from their main page or directly here. You may play it on an iPod or on your computer with any mp3 player.

Michael talks at length about the genesis of the 2007 Women of SciFi Calendar that he and Chris Judge are producing. They had been batting around the idea for quite a while but were sure someone else had already done it. The idea gained a lot of momentum once they realized they would be first and there were no legal hurdles in that regard. Lexa helped convince the other actresses to participate once she realized how good a photographer Chris is and that it would be a good experience for them.

An interesting tidbit is that Erica Durance’s sister has married Chris Judge’s brother and they have a child. It’s not clear if this is his brother Jeff, who has appeared in SG-1.

Michael hopes that the company he has formed with Chris to produce the calendar, Slacktwaddle, will grow into a Vancouver-based production company, using their Sci Fi connections to produce film and television products. Of course that will have to wait for the end of Stargate: SG-1, a date that he refuses to predict.

There will be a 2008 Women of Sci-Fi calendar featuring some of the actresses who weren’t available for the first one. And in response to many requests they’ve had, they are lining up actors for a 2008 Men of Sci-Fi calendar.

Michael and Chris, along with some of the actresses from the 2007 calendar, will be at the Timeless Destinations Sci Fi convention to be held in Vancouver this August. Michael will be in the dealer’s room and Chris will appear on stage.

Regarding SG-1, Michael had nice things to say about Ben Browder and how he came in with very much the attitude that he had to prove himself; he didn’t have any attitude of entitlement or expectation. They broke him in at the same time the team broke in Mitchell, and Ben was willing to play the fool when necessary to make the point. (Remember the “Hey, new guy” line? :))

They are currently filming episode 3 of Seaon 10. SPOILERS FOLLOW (highlight to read)Episode 3 is a crossover episode in which many of the cast of Stargate: Atlantis will appear. In one of two storylines, Daniel and Vala will dig through the archives of Atlantis’ library searching for something to stop the Ori. They will discover something ‘interesting and titillating’.

As far as the rest of the season, episode 6 is the 200th episode, a reality Michael finds unbelievable. As far as that episode, from what he’s heard, it’s going to be not unlike Wormhole Extreme in that they’ll be taking a few potshots at themselves. But the audience will be in on it, too. And it may involve the appearance of a face we’ve missed for some time.

There are lots of nice tidbits in the interview and it’s clear the interviewer (Tony) really likes Michael’s acting. So, go, download, listen!

Shanks to Appear in 16 S10 Episodes

MichaelShanks-Online’s new interview with Michael Shanks reveals he is contracted for 16 of the 20 episodes to be filmed in SG-1 Season 10. He is taking two episodes off to attend to the birth of his third child, his second with wife Lexa Doig, who is due in March. He’ll take two more weeks off over the summer to be with his family.

Lexa’s pregnancy seems to explain why Joe Mallozzi was evasive on the question of Dr. Lam’s future, and Michael’s reduced schedule may explain why the producers are considering a ‘controversial arc’ for one of the characters, hinted to be Daniel Jackson.

Though we’ll miss seeing him in those episodes, Solutions wishes Michael and Lexa the best of luck with their new arrival!
