Précis

SG-1's alternate timeline selves attempt to change the past in order to fix the future, taking the Ancient time machine to Chulak to retrieve Teal'c, hoping he'll join them. Forced by Apophis' forces to retreat to the past, they meet up with sole survivor Daniel, helping him launch the rebellion that deposes Ra and keeps the Stargate on Earth.

SciFi.com Official Summary

In an alternate timeline, civilian scientists Samantha Carter and Daniel Jackson have followed the videotaped instructions of their alternate selves in Egypt, circa 3000 B.C., and have helped General Hammond and his team unearth the stargate at Antarctica. It's now ready to send a team to the planet Chulak, where they will find Teal'c, who according to the tape will be needed to repair the altered timeline. The only member of the future SG-1 team missing is Colonel Jack O'Neill. Thanks to his old war buddy, Major Kawalsky, O'Neill is coaxed out of retirement for this mission.

Daniel and Carter are still out of the loop, but Carter convinces General Hammond, O'Neill and Kawalsky that they will need the tactical advantage of the Jumper they found in Giza since they will no doubt be encountering a hostile and technologically advanced enemy. And because O'Neill, who, according to the videotape, is the only one with the Ancient gene needed to fly the Jumper, is now here, they have that advantage. O'Neill is convinced that these geniuses might be worth taking along.

Kawalsky and his team, along with O'Neill, Daniel and Samantha, fly to Chulak through the gate. There they are met by Jaffa soldiers loyal to the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis, taken prisoner and locked in a cell. Apophis' First Prime, Teal'c, questions them. O'Neill tells Teal'c that that they know he secretly hides his resentment of the Goa'uld and his belief that Apophis is a false god, and that in an alternate future he frees the Jaffa. Teal'c, hiding his true feelings, calls this blasphemy and takes Daniel to see Apophis.

Teal'c goes back to the cell with Daniel's video camera and asks that O'Neill and company show him the proof of their claim. Teal'c is convinced and brings the team their weapons and vests. A drained Daniel is returned to the cell and the team, using their explosives, breaks out and heads for the Jumper. They are met by Teal'c, who kills Daniel. Teal'c explains that Daniel was a Goa'uld. In order to probe Daniel's mind thoroughly, Apophis implanted a Goa'uld symbiote in him. Apophis knows everything Daniel knew. He now perceives the Tau'ri as a threat and is sending an armada of Ha'tak vessels to invade Earth. Daniel's symbiote was to be a spy for Apophis.

Daniel awakens, healed by his symbiote. He kills one of Kawalsky's men. O'Neill and Kawalsky fire into him until he dies, his eyes glowing. The Jaffa forces arrive. Kawalsky and his men are killed in the ensuing firefight. O'Neill, Teal'c and Carter take off in the Jumper. The stargate is heavily guarded. Carter sees a way out: Travel back in time 5,000 years and use the gate to go to Giza on Earth. O'Neill, although he was ordered by Hammond not to travel through time, sees no other way. Besides, they just royally screwed up their own timeline anyway; Earth is about to be attacked by Apophis. Now they must set things right.

The Jumper sets down in Ancient Egypt. The team is met by Katep, who worked with SG-1 from the original timeline to lead a rebellion against Ra. Katep explains that the rebellion did not go as planned. SG-1 was caught and executed—all except Daniel. After a quick catch-up, they agree that the gate must still be taken and buried so that Ra cannot take it with him and it can be unearthed in 1928 A.D. so the Stargate program can evolve as it originally did.

Daniel, Teal'c and Katep plan to distract Ra's forces from the gate, so the Jumper can pick it up by cable. Carter and O'Neill set out to restore the Jumper's cloaking device, which they just found out about from Daniel. In the interim, the natural attraction between O'Neill and Carter exists in this timeline, too. While under heavy fire from Jaffa forces, they make out, thinking they're about to die. Just then a vast rebel army appears over the ridge. The Jaffa surrender.

Flash back to the future ... again. At Stargate Command, General Jack O'Neill, Lt. Col. Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and Teal'c are viewing the tape they made in the past, and which was recently unearthed, along with the ZPM, at a dig near Giza. Daniel's original plan—to go back in time, get Ra's ZPM and bury it so it could be unearthed in the future—has succeeded.

But some things are a little different. Even though the four heroes went fishing at O'Neill's ranch weeks earlier, they seem to think they're doing it now for the first time. Carter and O'Neill seem cozier. And, although O'Neill said on the tape that there were no fish in his pond...there are now.

As O'Neill remarks, "Close enough."
