Geopolitical and Structural History

Praxyon was the location of a time machine. The Stargate was housed inside a cave. There were three catwalks emerging from a center above a deep abyss. One was to the Stargate; one was to the control console, and was to a ring platform.

The time machine itself used solar flares in conjunction with the Stargate itself to travel through time. A system of satellites monitored the solar activity of hundreds of stars and sent the information back to Praxyon via sub-space. The console studied the various solar flares through the Stargate system and was able to accurately pinpoint where, or more accurately "when" a wormhole timed correctly could send the traveler. The language of the consoles was written in Ancient.

Ba'al used the time machine at Praxyon, inspired by SG-1's own previous missions involving time travel. It became his failsafe plan if all of his clones were eventually tracked and destroyed. He used the machine on Praxyon to go attempt to go back to 1939 on Earth and stop the Stargate from ever reaching the United States–and thus preventing the Stargate Program from ever happening. Additionally his knowledge of events in the timeline helped him secure his position as leader of the Goa'uld, making other system lords, including Ra, subservient to him. He also had Teal'c as his first prime and Qetesh, hosted by Vala, as his queen. She knew of the existence of Praxyon, but not what so fascinated Ba'al there.

Three members of SG-1, through a quirk of fate, was in wormhole transit when Ba'al's timeline manipulation took place, and thus were immune to its effects. Trapped on an alternate Earth, Daniel Jackson, Cameron Mitchell, and Samantha Carter tried to thwart Ba'al's plans when he finally came to conquer this altered timeline Earth. Qetesh, suspicious of how Ba'al knew so much of Earth...and could predict everything, betrayed him and killed him.

Teal'c witnessed Ba'al's death and set forth to fulfill his master's final orders, which involved travelling to Praxyon. He encountered the SG-1 trio and they allied together to reach Praxyon before Qetesh and fix the timeline. Colonel Carter was able to figure out how the device worked and tried to find a proper timeline. Meanwhile Qetesh's Jaffa arrived and her team and Teal'c and his Jaffa entered a pitched firefight.

She was able to establish a wormhole using the Praxyon time machine to 1929. Col. Mitchell escaped through it, but both Col. Carter and Dr. Jackson were killed in the battle. Teal'c too was fatally wounded. In this altered timeline, Teal'c's dying action was to release a Goa'uld grenade after Qetesh's arrival, thus destroying the time device of Praxyon.

Mitchell's actions in the past later made this altered timeline nonexistent. While Ba'al still used the Praxyon device to go back to 1939, Cameron was lying in wait on the Achilles and killed the Goa'uld and his Jaffa when they arrived through the Stargate. With the timeline restored, the final Ba'al clone was killed and SG-1 did not learn of the existence of Praxyon.
