Geopolitical Structure and History

Cartago was a planet with several caves in the mountain regions. Stone structures were made by the human population on the planet. The village was placed next to the Stargate. The people of Cartago were a small closely knit community who called themselves the Bysra. Goa'uld would occasionally raid the planet for slaves. The people would disappear as soon as the Circ Kakona activated, hiding in the nearby caves. They would even sleep there at night. However, the Bysra would never leave without all of them going. The slowest villager would doom them all. Teal'c visited the planet different times as first prime of Apophis. He observed the people would often disappear like a flock of birds, but one slow person would slow them all.

On one occasion, Apophis ordered Teal'c to kill one of the villagers. If Teal'c did not do as bid, he knew Apophis would kill all the villagers. He had seen it happen on other worlds. Therefore he chose a crippled man to die, one he knew was slowing down the others. Apophis took seven Bysrans from the planet and left.

Teal'c did not recognize Cartago when he returned to the planet with SG-1, but the crippled man's son, called Hanno recognized Teal'c. The Bysrans arrested Teal'c for his crime, although they were willing to allow the rest of SG-1 to leave. Teal'c refused O'Neill's attempts to break him out and wished to be tried according to the Bysran custom the "Cor-ai" for his crimes against Hanno's father and/or all the other atrocities he committed. O'Neill and Carter returned home for reinforcements, but Hammond refused to send armed troops to a peaceful people who were looking for justice.

Teal'c was convicted by the Cor-ai and was scheduled for execution the next day. Before Jack and Sam returned, Apophis's Jaffa arrived on Cartago to raid the village. Amongst the Jaffa was Teal'c's old subordinate Shak'l. Teal'c killed Shak'l and risked his own life to save some of the fleeing Bysrans. O'Neill and Carter arrived and were able to kill the rest of the raiding party. Because of Teal'c's efforts, Hanno decided not to let the Cor-ai sentence been enforced. SG-1 and the Bysra parted ways with O'Neill promising the SGC would help the people defend themselves from the Goa'uld. Presumably follow-up missions were conducted by SG teams.
