Geopolitical and Structural History
Haktyl was the world where Ishta and a group of rebel priestesses kept a sanctuary. The Goa'uld they served, Moloc, insisted on maintaining a population of only male Jaffa. Daughters born were to be executed by Ishta and the other priestesses. Instead Ishta and those who served her brought the girls to Haktyl to be raised by them free of the Goa'uld.
Another danger arose as each child reached puberty. Jaffa who reach adolescence require a symbiote for their biology or they will end up with no immune system and die. Ishta and her followers would raid other planets and steal primtas for the girls. On Haktyl, they heard word of the Shol'va Teal'c and SG-1 who fought the Goa'uld. They ambushed a meet SG-1 had with other Jaffa (rebels) and escorted them back to Haktyl. Not all were aware of the ultimate goals of the mission, but Ishta wanted to enlist SG-1's help. Choosing Major Carter as the appropriate spokesperson, they dealt with her. While she thought they wanted help overthrowing Moloc, their goals were less lofty—wanting a trade partnership and help retrieving more symbiotes.
Instead, Carter and Teal'c introduced Ishta to tretonin, the drug the Tok'ra developed to take the place of symbiotes in Jaffa physiology. While initially rejecting the idea, after Ishta sparred with Teal'c on their training grounds and discovered he was on the drug as well, she relented. A few of the woman warriors returned to the SGC as volunteers. Mala, Ishta's second-in-command, had an adverse reaction and died from the tretonin.
When learning of this, Ishta held Daniel and Teal'c as hostages and led a raiding party for new symbiotes offworld. However, Ka'lel and Nesa believed that tretonin can be the hope for their people, and release the two members of SG-1 and go to stop Ishta. Eventually the Hak'tyl and the SGC form an alliance.
Moloc eventually discovered the location of Haktyl and raided the planet (8.09 "Sacrifices"). Ishta's people had to evacuate, complete with livestock, and sought temporary refuge at the SGC before finding a new home.
