  • Erica Henderson, Lead Compositor

Congratulations, VFX Team!

Veteran Stargate Actor Beau Bridges

Congratulations are also in order for Beau Bridges, who was nominated in the “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series” category for his recurring guest role as Nick Brody in ABC’s Brothers and Sisters. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see more of Nick’s story since the show was not renewed for a sixth season.

Bridges has recently made two more guest appearances on other primetime shows that hold promise for recurring: Leonard Franklin in TNT’s Franklin & Bash (recently aired) and Agent Kramar in the upcoming midseason finale of USA’s White Collar (August 9). Even if these roles are not recurring, Bridges may still be nominated just like he was for his single guest appearance as Eli Scruggs in ABC’s Desperate Housewives a few years ago.

Jason Momoa Cast in Stallone Crime Thriller

Jason Momoa (Des Moines Register)Stargate star Jason Momoa has been cast as the “bad guy” Keegan in the formerly-titled Headshot, a Sylvester Stallone movie, according to a Latino Review exclusive.

The exclusive was picked up by Screen Rant, who had this to add about the movie:

Former Stargate: Atlantis cast member Jason Momoa has become a hot commodity in the wake of his role as Khal Drogo on HBO’s Game of Thrones. He looks to further strengthen his image as an onscreen badass by headlining this summer’s Conan the Barbarian reboot and portraying a cop killer in action movie director Walter Hill’s new film, formerly known as Headshot.

Momoa will appear opposite Sylvester Stallone and Fast Five‘s Sung Kang as a mismatched pair of professionals (Stallone is a New Orleans hitman, Kang is a New York police officer), who join forces in order to track down the crooks responsible for murdering their respective partners.

Latino Review says that Momoa is up to play the villainous Keegan in Hill’s movie, which is an adaptation of the comic book “Bullet to the Head” by French author Alexis Nolent (who writes under the pseudonym Matz). Oscar-nominee Alessandro Camon (The Messenger) was responsible for scripting the big-screen version of Nolent’s violent crime noir series, which is expected to begin production in Louisiana before the month is out.

Sarah Shahi of Fairly Legal has also been cast in the movie, portraying the daughter of Stallone’s character.

We’ll let you know when the movie gets a title and release date. In the meantime, be looking for Momoa in Conan the Barbarian, which is coming to US theaters August 19.

Beau Bridges Cast in USA's "White Collar"

Beau-BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has been cast in a major guest role as FBI Agent Peter Burke’s mentor in the USA network hit White Collar, according to a TV Guide exclusive:

Bridges, 69, will play Agent Kramer, a well-decorated federal officer and art expert who instructed Peter (Tim DeKay) when he trained at Quantico. Kramer has been Peter’s mentor ever since, and his paternal nature offsets his intimidating presence.

The three-time Emmy winner begins shooting Tuesday on the episode, titled “Countdown.” It will air Aug. 9 and serve as White Collar’s midseason finale.

White Collar just started its 16-episode third season on June 7. The show’s main page at USANetwork.com gives its premise:

White Collar is about the unlikely partnership of a con artist and an FBI agent who have been playing cat and mouse for years. Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), a charming criminal mastermind, is finally caught by his nemesis, FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay.)

When Neal escapes from a maximum-security prison to find his long-lost love, Peter nabs him once again. Rather than returning to jail, Neal suggests an alternate plan: He’ll provide his criminal expertise to assist the Feds in catching other elusive criminals in exchange for his eventual freedom. Initially wary, Peter quickly finds that Neal provides insight and intuition that can’t be found on the right side of the law.

White Collar co-stars Stargate SG-1 guest star Willie Garson (Martin Lloyd, “Point of No Return,” “Wormhole X-Treme,” and “200”) as Mozzie, Neal’s “most trusted friend and co-conspirator.” TV Guide recently announced that another SG-1 veteran, Ernie Hudson (Commander Pernaux, “Ethon”), will be guest starring as Mozzi’s childhood mentor.

White Collar airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on USA.

Christopher Judge Teases ‘Huge’ Casting News

Christopher JudgeThis news is fresh from Stargate star Christopher Judge‘s Q&A at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in Alberta, Canada, and is being reported by Cinema Spy’s Michael Simpson:

Christopher Judge, who played the alien character Teal’c on 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 and its two spin-off movies, has teased fans of the series with news that he has been cast in a ‘huge’ upcoming movie. Judge revealed the news today during his Q&A session at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

“I shouldn’t even say anything,” Judge told the Expo crowd. “OK, I can’t tell you what. There’s gonna be a big announcement in the next couple of weeks. So I just got cast in a huge film.”

The news brought a cheer from the audience but Judge did not reveal further details. His comments suggested, however, that it would be a genre film.

[…]

Judge will next appear in the movie REHAB, directed by Rick Bieber. We’re just speculating, of course, but here at CinemaSpy we’re hoping that the ‘huge’ movie he’s been cast in is the next Star Trek.

Rehab, scheduled for release June 23, was written by CSI: Miami star David Caruso and Rick Bieber and is described at David Caruso.net: “A controversial psychiatrist conducts a retreat for patients suffering from severe cases of dissociative personality disorders. The intense, week-long treatment reveals a devious agenda that is more dangerous than their violent psychosis.”

Concerning the “huge” movie that Judge teased about, what do you think it could be?

Update

JULY 22: The movie is The Dark Knight Rises and is part of the Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale. Judge’s role is still not known. (Report on brief announcement Judge made via Twitter)

Beau Bridges in New Family Movie Night Production

Beau BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has filmed a new movie for Family Movie Night sponsored by Procter & Gamble and Walmart. The movie is tentatively titled Home and Away and was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A few articles about the locations used by the production have recently surfaced. One such article is from Star News Online, which states that Wilmington was selected for its “choices for small-town, middle-America locales along with a strong, experienced crew base and a solid tax incentive.” The movie “centers around an NFL player (Ryan McPartlin) who steps away from the game to return to his childhood home in North Carolina to be with family after his father (Beau Bridges) has a heart attack.”

Another article, published at Bonesville.net, talks about how the production took over East Carolina University’s strength and conditioning director Jeff Connors’ office to film some of the professional football scenes. Connors has a son, who is also named Beau, working on the production. He explained the plot in more depth: “Supposedly, it’s going to be about a coach who had two sons who played for him in high school. One went on to play in college, who was not expected to go on and play in college. The other did not because he had some sort of injury. The brothers became estranged and then, at some point, they were brought back together.”

Filming began May 23 and ended yesterday, June 17. It will premiere on September 3 as part of Family Movie Night, when “you can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on.” Joe Flanigan starred in another of the series’ movies, Change of Plans, which premiered earlier this year. Fans can expect to see the DVD for the movie in Walmart stores soon after airing.
