SG-1 and SGA Casting Updates/Spoilers

There were at least 3 Stargate-related conventions going on this weekend, and various bits of news came out of them related to casting of the remaining S10/S3 episodes, as well as upcoming SG-1 DVD movies and Season 4 of Atlantis.

  • N. John Smith confirmed at Collectormania in Manchester, UK, that Carson Beckett will disappear in the second half of Season 3, and that Paul McGillion won’t be a cast regular in Season 4. He did promise Beckett would return for some number of future episodes. This confirms rumors that have been floating for months, and fans have already started a campaign to make their objections to this change clear. Visit SaveCarsonBeckett.com for more info.
  • Amanda Tapping said at the GABIT convention in the UK that she will be appearing in “a few” episodes of Atlantis next year, but that it wouldn’t be a full-time role. Michael Shanks said at Creation Con that he has heard we will be seeing a familiar SG-1 face on Atlantis, but that it won’t be him. We assume he was referring to Tapping. Torri Higginson declined to give any details on who might be crossing over, but was supportive of the idea. She also said she had no idea what is in store for Weir in Season 4.
  • David Hewlett at Creation Con mentioned that Michael Beach, formerly of ER, has joined the cast of Atlantis, presumably as a recurring character. David used the term “has joined the cast”. His role in SGA is already listed in Beach’s wikipedia entry, but might be new to many fans. David said that Michael is very good a long passages of dialog. He will appear in Season 3, since he has already filmed at least one episode. It’s not known how many episodes he will be in.
  • Cliff Simon at Creation Burbank said he expects to reprise his role as Ba’al in at least one of the two SG-1 DVD movies.
  • Michael Shanks at Creation Burbank seemed quite committed to being in both movies, and in movies beyond that if the DVD’s sell well and MGM asks for more.

S10 Spoilers: Finishing Season Ten

Final Two Episode Titles Revealed

Gateworld is reporting that the final two episodes of Season Ten will be “Dominion” and “Unending”, respectively. Executive producer Robert C. Cooper will direct the curiously named finale.

This information was given to Gateworld by Lida, a Gateworld forum poster who had a walk-on role in “Dominion”. Lida has also reported that Morena Baccarin (Adria) was on set the same week.

Season Ten filming is scheduled to be completed by October 10, 2006.

Plot details are currently not known, but please check our Season Ten Episode Guides for more information as it becomes available.

Edited for clarification.

S10 Spoilers: Family Ties

10.18 “Family Ties”

The actual plotline for this episode is not currently known, but the episode itself has been mentioned by Michael Shanks, Beau Bridges, and Claudia Black recently.

During the Creation Convention in Chicago, held right after news of SG-1‘s cancellation, Michael Shanks and Beau Bridges reportedly mentioned the upcoming episode “Family Ties” as one in which Lexa Doig will make an appearance as Dr. Carolyn Lam, daughter of Gen. Hank Landry. Additionally, Landry’s ex-wife, Carolyn’s mother, is to make an appearance as well. Doig has been away from the show’s filming because of the birth of her second child with her husband, Michael Shanks, earlier this year. The episode which just recently finished shooting, “Talion”, will be the first episode in which Dr. Lam makes an appearance this season.

In an interview conducted at The SciFi World, also held just after the cancellation news broke, Claudia Black stated, “Samantha and Vala have a couple of moments in an upcoming episode called “Family Ties” so it would be nice to have a little bit [of] character development there.”

Visit the Stargate Wiki’s Episode Guide Page for more details about this episode as they become available.

"Memento Mori" Spoilers Leaked on YouTube

A resourceful fan has posted a video of the opening moments (after the credits) of 10.08 “Memento Mori,” due to air this Friday, Sept 8 in the US. The scene is of the infamous “dinner date” alluded to by episode writer Joe Mallozzi months ago. Beware this video is of the opening of the episode and is therefore as spoilery as it can be. View the video at YouTube.com.

Another fan has a preview of the not-yet-public 8th AOL vignette, also for “Memento Mori.” This focuses on what the episode means to Daniel and Vala. It has major spoilers, including for the end of the episode. If you’re still willing, view it at YouTube.com.

This episode looks to be a great one for fans of Daniel, Vala and their budding friendship.

Levine: Only Finale Remains

Alex Levine’s scifi.com Blog

In his weekly postings at scifi.com, script coordinator Alex Levine gives fans a behind-the-scenes look into the production considerations of both Stargate shows. In his lastest post, dated August 19, he puts forth the notion that, in reality, they were celebrating 246 episodes when SG-1’s 200th episode aired on the 18th.

Season Ten has gained a lot of press attention because of the milestones the show has met this year, but apparently the biggest concern right now at the studio is whether or not there will be a Season Eleven. Executive producer Robert Cooper had stated in an interview in TV Zone Special 71, “We’ll probably come up with a couple more stories, but we’re leaving the last two or three slots of both shows sort of open at the moment simply because we don’t know what the future holds. If we perform in the ratings and Sci Fi wants to go for more, then we’ll do season finales. So we’ll have to wait and see.”

Levine states in his blog:

Meanwhile, as I write this, Rob Cooper and Brad Wright are brainstorming the SG-1 season finale down the hall. Yes, it’s true, we’ve got 18 episodes of each series written now, and another episode of each series in outline stage. So they’re down to the finales. It really is amazing how time flies by, but it’s been yet another great season here in Burnaby, BC.

It will be interesting to find out if Levine really meant “season finale” rather than “series finale” when he wrote these words and that Stargate SG-1 will continue to break the records with an eleventh season.

S10 Spoilers: Talion

Talion

Summary

A terrorist bombing of a Jaffa council meeting ends with several deaths, including innocent bystanders and children. Teal’c seeks revenge when he discovers that one of his former pupils is behind the slaughter.

Design

The choice to follow the Ori is being made by several of the Free Jaffa, including one of Bra’tac’s and Teal’c’s former pupils, Arkad. A strong warrior in his own right, Arkad claims to have a fleet more than ten times the size of that of any Goa’uld. He is prepared to order his fleet to attack Earth if the Tau’ri continue to interfere in the Jaffa’s freedom to choose their own path. As a way to define his purpose, he has named his group the Illac Renin (in Ancient, loosely translated, means “Kingdom of the Path”).

Arkad threatens Earth after his group has performed a most horrendous deed: they bombed a gathering of Jaffa at Dar Ashkalon who wished to oppose the Ori and the Jaffa’s turning to Origin. Thirty-two Jaffa were killed, including twelve Jaffa who were gathered at the summit, eighteen innocent bystanders, and two children.

Bra’tac and Teal’c were at the summit. Both were injured in the blast, Bra’tac more severely than Teal’c. Bra’tac is taken to the SGC infirmary where Dr. Lam takes care of him and places him in intensive care.

SG-3, under the command of Col. Reynolds, helps in the clean-up following the bombing. He discovers that Arkad plans to attack Earth to impress his group. Word is that Arkad is stockpiling weapons grade Naquadah for a coordinated attack against the Tau’ri.

Teal’c ignores his teammates and goes on a one-man quest for vengeance. He follows various leads on Arkad’s whereabouts. He knows that Arkad is responsible for the attack because he saw him there. Along the way, Teal’c is aided by a barkeep who stuns two thugs who attempt to overpower him while he is interviewing Lizan, a follower of the Ori and great opponent of the Jaffa, but one who knows much about Arkad’s operation.

Teal’c finds Ba’kal, one of Arkad’s followers who set the three explosives which killed the 32 Jaffa at the summit. Teal’c goes so far as to remove the Jaffa’s symbiote, killing it, and to plant a bomb in his empty pouch in order to obtain from him what he wants to know — primarily, Arkad’s whereabouts.

If Teal’c had only stayed with his team, he would have known that Arkad was on Earth at the SGC. Still too weak to confront Arkad when he comes to Earth to speak with General Landry, Mitchell, Daniel, Carter, and Vala, Bra’tac permits Daniel to speak on his behalf. Following the meeting, Mitchell and Daniel visit Bra’tac in intensive care to determine why Arkad claims to have far more power than he actually does and why he wishes to draw Earth into a confrontation.

In the meantime, Teal’c gets closer to his own confrontation on a smaller, more personal scale — with Arkad…

More Details on "200" Released

200 laughs in a memorable ‘Stargate SG-1’ episode

Long-time Stargate watcher and columnist Maureen Ryan describes what to expect in this Friday’s milestone SG-1 episode “200,” in her blog here at the Chicago Tribune.

It appears no one escapes unscathed, from writers to actors to the campaign to bring Michael Shanks back to the show:

There’s even more insider dish over the departure and return of Michael Shanks to “Stargate SG-1”; a certain “Wormhole Xtreme” actor enthuses about the Web site campaign that he’s sure helped convince producers to hire him back after he quit. The Web site gets “like dozens of hits a month,” notes the actor. Snark!

Snark indeed. 😉 Visit the blog to read the whole review, with quotes by Robert Cooper and Joe Mallozzi, and visit again Thursday night for exclusive photos of the episode.

S10 Spoilers: Bad Guys

10.16? “Bad Guys”

Summary

Caught on a planet where they are mistaken for hostage-taking rebels, the team pretend to be volatile “bad guys” as they hold the police at bay while trying to find a way home.

Details

Cicero, a museum researcher, has theorized that the Stargate is a means of teleportation and his co-workers consider him a “kook”. When the team comes through the Stargate, he’s thrilled. But things go terribly wrong and the team ends up being considered Rebels and hostage-takers. Cicero is among the “hostages”, believes their story, and tries to help them.

The police assume that the team are Rebels and have taken hostages in the museum. Their first encounter doesn’t go well and Daniel ends up getting this world’s equivalent of a tazar jolt.

Not able to convince them otherwise, the team decides to act like hostage-takers. Cicero gives Daniel his idea of what Rebels would demand, but these demands are considered extreme by the negotiator, Quartus.

The museum has a fake DHD on display and this is why the team is stuck. While Mitchell and Vala go with Cicero to his lab to see if he has the power crystal to the DHD which was found in fragments in the temple where the Stargate was discovered, Daniel continues “negotiating” with Quartus, sometimes letting his “good guy” nature slip until Teal’c reminds him that he is supposed to be the “bad guy”. Daniel “threatens” to harm the hostages if his demands to free imprisoned Rebels aren’t met. As it turns out, Quartus is lying to Daniel as much as Daniel is lying to him. He is under orders to exterminate the “Rebels” and is merely killing time so that his forces can overwhelm them.

During all of this, a museum security guard named Jayem Seran is hiding in the hallways, deciding that he needs to be a hero. He contacts Quartus on his radio, but Quartus doesn’t want Jayem’s help from the inside and asks that he find a safe place until the whole thing is over. Thinking that Quartus asked him to stand down because their radios were compromised, Jayem decides to get involved instead. Vala and Mitchell end up capturing him and getting him to use his keycard to unlock the display which holds a Goa’uld bomb. They hope to use its power source to get home.

In the meantime, Cicero slips out and approaches the police with his hands raised. He explains to Quartus that the team are not Rebels, but actually visitors from another world.

NOTE: Carter is not mentioned in any of the offworld scenes.

TV Guide Insider: Crossover Q&A (Spoilers)

Insider interviews Amanda Tapping and David Hewlett

Tonight’s episode, “The Pegasus Project”, sees Dr. Daniel Jackson finally realizing a dream and going to Atlantis. His trip, however, is not for pleasure, but to research the Atlantis archives for more information about Merlin’s anti-Ascended weapon, the Sangreal. Daniel’s long-awaited trip is made with his teammates, Lt. Col. Samantha Carter and Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, and new SGC consultant, Vala Mal Doran.

As monumental as Daniel’s trip to Atlantis is, there is another story going on while he and Vala perform their research with Dr. Elizabeth Weir. Dr. Rodney McKay and Lt. Col. John Sheppard assist Carter and Mitchell in their attempts to make a wormhole jump from a Space Stargate (“Spacegate”) in the Pegasus Galaxy to the Ori’s Super Stargate (“Supergate”) in the Milky Way Galaxy in order to close off the Ori’s ability to send more warships through that particular Supergate. Teal’c is near the Supergate in a cargo ship, working on his end of the project.

Tapping and Hewlett enthuse over working together again in this interview, which also includes some spoilers for later episodes for both shows (so beware!).
