Jason Momoa Cast in Stallone Crime Thriller

Jason Momoa (Des Moines Register)Stargate star Jason Momoa has been cast as the “bad guy” Keegan in the formerly-titled Headshot, a Sylvester Stallone movie, according to a Latino Review exclusive.

The exclusive was picked up by Screen Rant, who had this to add about the movie:

Former Stargate: Atlantis cast member Jason Momoa has become a hot commodity in the wake of his role as Khal Drogo on HBO’s Game of Thrones. He looks to further strengthen his image as an onscreen badass by headlining this summer’s Conan the Barbarian reboot and portraying a cop killer in action movie director Walter Hill’s new film, formerly known as Headshot.

Momoa will appear opposite Sylvester Stallone and Fast Five‘s Sung Kang as a mismatched pair of professionals (Stallone is a New Orleans hitman, Kang is a New York police officer), who join forces in order to track down the crooks responsible for murdering their respective partners.

Latino Review says that Momoa is up to play the villainous Keegan in Hill’s movie, which is an adaptation of the comic book “Bullet to the Head” by French author Alexis Nolent (who writes under the pseudonym Matz). Oscar-nominee Alessandro Camon (The Messenger) was responsible for scripting the big-screen version of Nolent’s violent crime noir series, which is expected to begin production in Louisiana before the month is out.

Sarah Shahi of Fairly Legal has also been cast in the movie, portraying the daughter of Stallone’s character.

We’ll let you know when the movie gets a title and release date. In the meantime, be looking for Momoa in Conan the Barbarian, which is coming to US theaters August 19.

Beau Bridges Cast in USA's "White Collar"

Beau-BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has been cast in a major guest role as FBI Agent Peter Burke’s mentor in the USA network hit White Collar, according to a TV Guide exclusive:

Bridges, 69, will play Agent Kramer, a well-decorated federal officer and art expert who instructed Peter (Tim DeKay) when he trained at Quantico. Kramer has been Peter’s mentor ever since, and his paternal nature offsets his intimidating presence.

The three-time Emmy winner begins shooting Tuesday on the episode, titled “Countdown.” It will air Aug. 9 and serve as White Collar’s midseason finale.

White Collar just started its 16-episode third season on June 7. The show’s main page at USANetwork.com gives its premise:

White Collar is about the unlikely partnership of a con artist and an FBI agent who have been playing cat and mouse for years. Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), a charming criminal mastermind, is finally caught by his nemesis, FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay.)

When Neal escapes from a maximum-security prison to find his long-lost love, Peter nabs him once again. Rather than returning to jail, Neal suggests an alternate plan: He’ll provide his criminal expertise to assist the Feds in catching other elusive criminals in exchange for his eventual freedom. Initially wary, Peter quickly finds that Neal provides insight and intuition that can’t be found on the right side of the law.

White Collar co-stars Stargate SG-1 guest star Willie Garson (Martin Lloyd, “Point of No Return,” “Wormhole X-Treme,” and “200”) as Mozzie, Neal’s “most trusted friend and co-conspirator.” TV Guide recently announced that another SG-1 veteran, Ernie Hudson (Commander Pernaux, “Ethon”), will be guest starring as Mozzi’s childhood mentor.

White Collar airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on USA.

Christopher Judge Teases ‘Huge’ Casting News

Christopher JudgeThis news is fresh from Stargate star Christopher Judge‘s Q&A at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in Alberta, Canada, and is being reported by Cinema Spy’s Michael Simpson:

Christopher Judge, who played the alien character Teal’c on 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 and its two spin-off movies, has teased fans of the series with news that he has been cast in a ‘huge’ upcoming movie. Judge revealed the news today during his Q&A session at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo.

“I shouldn’t even say anything,” Judge told the Expo crowd. “OK, I can’t tell you what. There’s gonna be a big announcement in the next couple of weeks. So I just got cast in a huge film.”

The news brought a cheer from the audience but Judge did not reveal further details. His comments suggested, however, that it would be a genre film.

[…]

Judge will next appear in the movie REHAB, directed by Rick Bieber. We’re just speculating, of course, but here at CinemaSpy we’re hoping that the ‘huge’ movie he’s been cast in is the next Star Trek.

Rehab, scheduled for release June 23, was written by CSI: Miami star David Caruso and Rick Bieber and is described at David Caruso.net: “A controversial psychiatrist conducts a retreat for patients suffering from severe cases of dissociative personality disorders. The intense, week-long treatment reveals a devious agenda that is more dangerous than their violent psychosis.”

Concerning the “huge” movie that Judge teased about, what do you think it could be?

Update

JULY 22: The movie is The Dark Knight Rises and is part of the Batman trilogy starring Christian Bale. Judge’s role is still not known. (Report on brief announcement Judge made via Twitter)

Beau Bridges in New Family Movie Night Production

Beau BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has filmed a new movie for Family Movie Night sponsored by Procter & Gamble and Walmart. The movie is tentatively titled Home and Away and was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A few articles about the locations used by the production have recently surfaced. One such article is from Star News Online, which states that Wilmington was selected for its “choices for small-town, middle-America locales along with a strong, experienced crew base and a solid tax incentive.” The movie “centers around an NFL player (Ryan McPartlin) who steps away from the game to return to his childhood home in North Carolina to be with family after his father (Beau Bridges) has a heart attack.”

Another article, published at Bonesville.net, talks about how the production took over East Carolina University’s strength and conditioning director Jeff Connors’ office to film some of the professional football scenes. Connors has a son, who is also named Beau, working on the production. He explained the plot in more depth: “Supposedly, it’s going to be about a coach who had two sons who played for him in high school. One went on to play in college, who was not expected to go on and play in college. The other did not because he had some sort of injury. The brothers became estranged and then, at some point, they were brought back together.”

Filming began May 23 and ended yesterday, June 17. It will premiere on September 3 as part of Family Movie Night, when “you can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on.” Joe Flanigan starred in another of the series’ movies, Change of Plans, which premiered earlier this year. Fans can expect to see the DVD for the movie in Walmart stores soon after airing.

Catching Up with Alaina Huffman

Stargate star Alaina Huffman has had a busy schedule this week and is showing no signs of slowing down!

Huffman, who portrayed Lt. Tamara Johansen in Stargate Universe, recently did some shooting in Toronto for Syfy’s new show Alphas. The show is scheduled to premiere as the third show in the channel’s new “Powerful Monday” line-up, which starts out with Eureka at 8/7c, Warehouse 13 at 9/8c, and then Alphas at 10/9c. Alphas centers around “five ordinary people are brought together to form one extraordinary team of Alphas — people with the unique power to stretch the capabilities of the human mind giving them superhuman physical and mental abilities.” You can visit their homepage at Syfy.

Here’s Syfy’s promo for the new line-up that’s coming July 11:

Agent Mom PosterRight now, we’re not sure which episode Huffman was filming earlier this week, so we’ll have to keep an eye open for that. Most likely, the busy star will be updating her fans at the Comic Con being held this weekend in Philadelphia. If not there, then perhaps on her Twitter, where she first announced her guest spot in Alphas.

Huffman is also busy with her comic series Agent Mom that she created along with her husband John Huffman IV and Tony Lee. She also writes for the series, which is described at its first issue’s homepage at MTV Comics: “Taylor Jane has it all: a mom and homemaker by day, and a daring agent for the secret organization S.E.C.U.R.E. by night! Add in a hi-tech supersuit, a mysterious leader, and a daughter who’s a teenage hacker — and you have the latest MTV Comic, Agent Mom!” They just released #2, Part 5 last week. New issues are posted on Mondays and can be accessed from the MTV Comics New Releases page.

Taking a breather to keep in touch with her Twitter followers, Huffman proclaimed, “I’ve been slammed but busy is good.” Make sure to visit Alaina at her Twitter or through our Stargate Twitter Superfeed. We also have a page dedicated to her in our actor feature Beyond the Event Horizon.

The Auctioning Off of Stargate

Stargate fans can mourn, but at the same time Stargate collectors can rejoice! There will be an auction of many of the franchise’s props this coming Friday and Saturday (June 17 and 18).

The Province declares, “You could own a part of the universe.”

Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi wrote about the event in his recent weblog entry: “[H]alf of the FX stage (that once held the village and hive ship sets) is filled with stuff from the shows.” The Province has a picture of the stage, so visit the website to see which props you can readily identify.

The Province got quotes from actor David Nykl (Dr. Radek Zelenka, Stargate Atlantis) and producer John Lenic, who worked on all three shows in the franchise. Lenic described the auction:

Some of the furniture key to Stargate Universe and Atlantis, that stuff will go fairly quickly. There’s monitors that were built into the set, people saw them for years. There’s a lot of military clothing. Basically the majority of the stuff being sold is stuff that we’ve used in the three shows over the 14 years that isn’t specific to any episode.

VIP Auctions, out of Chicago, are running the auction and will be selling the Stargate itself, either in pieces or as a whole. The finality of this struck Mallozzi as well when he commended the efforts of the Save SGU campaign, but at the same time admitted, “Can’t tell you how touching it is to read that fan efforts are still ongoing despite what most (myself included) consider very long odds.”

About the auction Mallozzi concluded, “Sad, sad, sad. :(”

We couldn’t agree more.

Ben Browder Cast In Graphic Novel Film

Ben BrowderCinema Blend and Bigfanboy.com first reported that Stargate and Farscape alum Ben Browder has been cast in the film Bad Kids Go To Hell, currently filming in Texas. The film is an adaptation of the comic book series and graphic novel of the same name, written by Matthew Spradlin and Barry Wernick. The movie centers on some grizzly goings on at a prep school, and Ben plays Max the mysterious janitor.

The franchise has a Facebook page, which describes the movie:

Six private school high school kids find themselves stuck in detention on a frightfully dark and stormy Saturday afternoon. During their 8 hour incarceration, each of the six kids falls victim to a horrible “accident” until only one of them remains. And as each of these spoiled rich kids bites the dust, the story takes on a series of humorous and frantic twists and turns. Is one of the kids secretly evening the school’s social playing field? Or have the ghosts of prestigious Crestview Academy finally come to punish the school’s worst (and seemingly untouchable) brats? One thing is for sure…Daddy’s money can’t save them now.

The FB page has already published a picture of Ben on the set, so be sure to check it out. Show your support for Ben’s casting by “liking” Bad Kids Go To Hell.

Michael Shanks to Shoot CTV Pilot in Toronto

Michael ShanksStargate star Michael Shanks has written to his official website (MSOL) that he has a new role in a pilot that will be shooting in Toronto:

Been cast in a pilot for Canadian/US TV for the CTV network called Saving Hope in the role of ‘Harris Coles’. Erica Durance is the leading lady in this one. Start shooting it on the 22nd of June in Toronto, and leave to go do prep/rehearsals on the 16th.

Durance guest starred on SG-1 as Krista James in “Affinity” and played Lois Lane in the record-breaking Smallville. News of her casting was reported in our LJ Companion earlier this month.

Michael’s role is emphasized in the following synopsis provided by CTV in a press release:

“Saving Hope” centers on young, idealistic neonatal doctor Alyse Joy and her rival and one-time lover, flashy cancer surgeon Joel Gottlieb, as they take on the fundamental questions that define medicine today. Who gets to live, who gets to die, and why? The story goes into uncharted territory when the charismatic, inspiring and golden-tongued Chief of Surgery, Harris Coles, becomes a patient. Comatose, locked-in and unable to communicate that he’s aware of everything around him, Coles is the voice and the eyes that guide viewers through the world of “Saving Hope.” The drama, which is inspired by Ian Brown’s The Globe and Mail “Mount Hope” series based on stories from Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, is written and created by Morwyn Brebner (“Rookie Blue”) and Malcolm MacRury (“Deadwood”, “Crash & Burn”) and executive produced by Ilana Frank of Thump Inc. (“The Eleventh Hour”, “Of Murder and Memory”, “Rookie Blue”) and Lesley Harrison in association with CTV.
