Geopolitical and Structural History

P3R-636 was a world rich with naquadah. An area near the Stargate had a large forest. Shyla later noted them with wonder to Daniel calling them "trees" with a type of reverence.

An unnamed Goa'uld once ruled the planet. Seven hundred years ago, Pyrus killed him. Pyrus used the sarcophagus left on the planet to sustain, and eventually extend his life. Afraid other distant Goa'uld would come back, Pyrus continued to make the people mine the naquadah and send it through the Stargate. They worshipped King Pyrus for saving them from the evil god.

Pyrus's extensive usage of the sarcophagus made him paranoid of any strangers. When SG-1 arrived on P3R-636, he assumed they were denizens of a distant Goa'uld (not helped by the fact that Teal'c was a Jaffa) and enslaved them in the mine. Although SG-1 attempted a breakout, Daniel was still hampered by his chains and got caught in a rockslide.

Pyrus's daughter put Daniel in the sarcophagus, returning him to health. Daniel had saved her from a suicide attempt when the team first arrived, stopping her from falling off a cliff. Since then, she was smitten with Dr. Jackson. Although she told Daniel she did not need the sarcophagus to extend her life, she was clearly well familiar with its effects and addictive tendencies. She forced Daniel to use the sarcophagus by holding his friends' safety hostage until he was addicted to the device.

While Daniel was treated as royalty in Pyrus's household, the rest of SG-1 were toiling in the mines. They were growing sick and weak from overwork and malnutrition. Carter started having flashbacks from when she was blended with Jolinar, remembering the Tok'ra's abhorrence of the addiction of the sarcophagus.

Eventually assured Daniel could no longer live without her, Shyla convinced her father to let the team go home. The dying Pyrus agreed. Shlya saw them off, apologizing for their ill treatment and explaining they would always be treated well in future visits. The addicted Daniel promised to return soon and be married to Shyla.

Once back on base, Daniel went through an extreme detoxification of the effects of the sarcophagus. Only after he was fully recovered did the team return. The naquadah would be a good resource for the SGC, and Daniel still wanted to help the people. While the team was gone, Pyrus had died, leaving Shyla as ruler of P3R-636. She realized Daniel was no longer under her (or the device's) power. She expressed regret of what she had done to Daniel and was willing to destroy the sarcophagus under his guidance.
