SG-16 was a science team in Season Five (5.03 "Ascension"). The team was Colonel Reynolds's first assignment after he was transferred from Area 51. After SG-1 discovered an advanced device on Velona, SG-16 was assigned by Hammond to do a long-term on-site analysis. Major Carter, who had been knocked unconscious while doing an initial survey of the device, wanted to be assigned to the team to study it further herself. Hammond denied her request; Dr. Jackson was to assist in translating the Velonan language until SG-1's next mission.
Between SG-16's analysis and Dr. Jackson's translation, they were able to determine the device was a powerful advanced weapon. Pressured by the Pentagon, Carter was ordered to determine a way to use the naquadah generator to power up the device. Col. Simmons attended a briefing with Hammond, SG-1, and SG-16's Reynolds to discuss powering up the device. Sam, who had learned the history of the weapon from the ascended Ancient Orlin, tried to argue against test-firing the weapon, but was unable to reveal the source of her information, since no one knew/could prove the existence of Orlin.
SG-16 returned to the planet with orders to test fire the weapon. Orlin built a one-use Stargate in Carter's basement and arrived on Velona, surprising SG-16 with his appearance and trying to stop them from powering the weapon. He overpowered one team member, wrested a zat from him, and stunned the man before Reynolds shot him. Carter, following Orlin through the Stargate, ran up too late to vouch for him–and to prevent the weapon from being powered up. Despite Carter's entreaties, Reynolds remained firm in his orders from Hammond to let the test go on as scheduled. Besides, the weapon was already powered–to abort now would overload the naquadah reactor. Orlin, realizing that, sabotaged the machine, once again being shot by SG-16. Fatally wounded from the gunshot wounds, Orlin saved Sam and SG-16 by accepting ascension from the Others. While they watched, he swept up the reactor and destroyed the Velonan weapon.
Colonel Reynolds later went on to command SG-3 (7.01 "Fallen"). The status and current make up of SG-16 is otherwise unknown.
SG-16 was one of seventeen teams taking part in an offworld SGC celebration (possibly on P2C-106), (10.06 "200"). The celebration may have been for Lt. Col. Mitchell's 200th trip through the Stargate, but in any case took place on the landmark (and meta) 200th episode of Stargate SG-1.
