Stargate Briefing: Tapping, Hewlett, Bridges, Francks

Reminder: Sanctuary Returns Tonight!

Tune into the premiere of Season Four of AMANDA TAPPING’s Sanctuary tonight on the Syfy channel at 10/9c and on Canada’s Space channel at 10E/10:30P! Here’s Space’s preview:

ETA: Pop Culture Zoo has a new video interview with Tapping and co-star Robin Dunne in which they tease fans about this new season. Additionally, The Vancouver Sun recently interviewed Tapping about the show.

David Hewlett Narrates Environmental Film

The Tyee has published a feature about a new environmental film, Waking the Green Tiger, that will be debuting at the Vancouver International Film Festival tonight at 9:30 PM (it will be screened again on Tuesday, October 11, at 12:20 PM). Stargate’s DAVID HEWLETT is the narrator!

The movie is narrated by Stargate star David Hewlett, who Carson says was attracted by the environmental issues. “He’s very interested in the environment and he has a young son, so he’s looking at the world in a different way, and was just a thorough delight to work with.”

Beau Bridges Records Track for Haiti Relief

From Variety: Composers in tune for a cause: Orchestral work created for Haiti relief:

Twenty-six years ago, “We Are the World” and “Live Aid” raised millions for African famine relief. Now, some Hollywood film composers have joined together to write a symphony they hope will raise at least $1 million to help the victims of last year’s earthquake in Haiti.

“A Symphony of Hope,” a 50-minute work penned by 25 different composers from the film, TV and game worlds, was released last week and has already hit Amazon.com‘s top-25 chart of new classical releases.

[…]

Rounding out the album are three additional tracks that Lennertz hopes potential buyers will find attractive: jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval and singer Lucy Schwartz performing their spins on traditional Haitian tunes, and actor Beau Bridges reading an original poem about the disaster.

Stargate Briefing: Keeping Up with Stargate Alumni

Our New “Stargate Briefing” Feature

Our Stargate alum are busy folks, and we thought you’d like to get some of the many headlines about them grouped in one convenient place, so we’ve created “Stargate Briefing.” This new feature will come out whenever there are newsworthy alerts in our mailbox that just can’t wait to be dressed up, but instead are presented in a rather brief and informal format. Enjoy!

ION Television to Air Rainbow Sun Francks’ The Listener in the United States in 2012

RAINBOW SUN FRANCKS joined the regular cast of CTV’s The Listener in Season Two as Corporal Dev Clark. Another Stargate alum, PETER STEBBINGS, also joined the cast. The show has been picked up for a third season, and as far as we know, Francks will continue in his role.

More about the series and the news about ION’s pick-up can be found at Channel Canada.

Robert Picardo Reunites with Voyager Co-Star Mulgrew

Robert Picardo as Damian in NTSF:SD:SUV

Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew has a new 15-minute series called NTSF:SD:SUV (National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle). It’s part of Adult Swim that shares channel space with Cartoon Network nightly between 9:00 pm to 6:00 am ET/PT. Here’s a snippet of the interview Mulgrew did about her new series in which her Voyager co-star and Stargate alum ROBERT PICARDO guest starred recently:

In “Twistin’ the Night Away,” the actress had the pleasure of being reunited with one of her former Star Trek: Voyager costars, Robert Picardo, who played U.S.S. Voyager’s Holographic Doctor. “That was my call. I was sitting next to Paul Scheer and [series executive producer/writer John Stern] and overheard them saying that they needed a guest-star who could play a really creepy character,” recalls Mulgrew. “I told them, ‘I know him. He’s one of my best friends – Bob Picardo. They both said, ‘Yes! Can you call him?’

“I called Bob right then and there. He came in the next day and was perfect. The thing is, Paul will do that all the time, which is one of the reasons why I love him. Any idea is a good idea and he’ll embrace it. At one point I suggested to Paul, ‘You should get all the Star Trek guys in here. It would be a riot,’ and he said, ‘You’re absolutely right.’ It’s a very collaborative set. It has a wonderful old spirit, you know, because we’re not talking about trillions of dollars here. We’re talking about a collaborative effort to make people really laugh.”

Read more of the interview at The Morton Report.

Michael Shanks Has a New Film Project

MICHAEL SHANKS sent a note to his official website, MSOL, to let them know about his new project: “Just a note to let you know that I am starting a new project next week. A “ZOMBIE” movie called EERIE 13. Everyone should do at least one zombie movie. This shall be mine. More info to follow.”

MSOL reports that the movie will be filmed in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and promises we’ll be updated as soon as they are.

Amanda Tapping Talks Sanctuary Season Four

SanctuaryThe fourth season of AMANDA TAPPING’s hit Syfy show Sanctuary premieres this Friday, October 7, at 10 PM ET. The star, executive producer, and occasional-director Tapping gave an interview recently with The Province in which she discusses some of the highlights of the new season.

“This season is a little darker than previous seasons, a little more action-packed. We go back in time. It’s all part of a master plan,” she told Alex Strachan from Postmedia News. “I would like to see it continue for a while. We have a plan in place, and we’ve stayed with it so far. We always wanted it to go at least five seasons. From my perspective, I’m not ready to let it go yet.”

Tapping also discusses her fans and charity fundraisers, so visit the link for more (as far as we can tell, there are no spoilers in the interview).

Reminder: Hewlett, Picardo Encounter "Morlocks" Tonight

DAVID HEWLETT and ROBERT PICARDO can be seen tonight in the Syfy Original Movie Morlocks at 9/8c! If the title sounds familiar, it’s because it is taken from the mutant creatures of Earth’s future in the H.G. Wells sci-fi classic The Time Machine.

From the Wells classic, the Morlocks are an ape-like creature that live on Earth of AD 802701. In Syfy’s story, time travelers encounter the Morlocks, and somehow these creatures discover how to travel back to our present. They are ferocious and could spell the end of humankind. Who will save the day? Tune in to find out!

Reminder: Joe Flanigan in "Fringe" Tonight

Stargate star JOE FLANIGAN makes a guest appearance tonight in the Season Four premiere of Fringe as Robert Danzig. Be sure to tune into Fox at 9/8c for the episode “Neither Here Nor There.”

We first got word that Flanigan was guesting in this sci-fi favorite when he tweeted the news himself back in July: “Working on Fringe right now. Trying to get my small head around their mythology.”

Indeed, there is a lot to wrap your head around with this show, which stars Stargate vet John Noble as Dr. Walter Bishop, Joshua Jackson as his son Peter, Anna Torv as FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham, Lance Reddick as Agent Phillip Broyles, Jasika Nicole as Astrid Farnsworth, and Blair Brown as Nina Sharp. There are alternate universes (at least one that we know of) and shape-shifters who have mercury as blood. There’s even a time traveling machine and “Observers” who appear to be secretly steering events. On top of that, there are fringe science concepts such as devices that allow people to walk through solid objects and geographic pockets where the rules of science are turned upside down.

Tonight’s episode picks up one week after the Season Three finale in which Peter vanishes as if he never existed after bringing the two universes together at Liberty Island to find a way for the two realities to co-exist without one cancelling out the other. In the meantime, “as the two universes maintain an uneasy alliance, Lincoln Lee helps the Fringe team on a shape-shifting investigation that hits close to home.”

If you miss the original airing, visit the Fringe Episode Guide for online streaming of past episodes.
