Stargate Briefing: Bridges, Carlyle, Momoa

Beau Bridges Interview

BEAU BRIDGES co-stars with George Clooney in one of this year’s Oscar-hopeful films The Descendants. In response to the movie’s popularity, as well as the actor’s own, I Am Rogue got a chance to talk with Bridges about The Descendants, “working with director Alexander Payne, his love for Hawaii, George Clooney, how filmmaking has changed over the years, and the book his father gave him about acting that he has now passed on to his own daughter.” The introduction includes a brief mention of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

Carlyle Film Debuting at Sundance

ROBERT CARLYLE’s independent film California Solo will debut at the Sundance Film Festival this coming January (January 19-29, 2012) in Park City, Utah. The film tells the story of a “Britpop ex-rocker now living on a farm outside Los Angeles [who] must deal with personal demons.” It was directed by Marshall Lewy and also stars Alexia Rasmussen, Kathleen Wilhoite, A Martinez and Danny Masterson. Variety reports that the film does not yet have distribution rights in place.

If you’re interested in some of Carlyle’s previous work, Barbara Barnett of Blog Critics has compiled a list of must-watch projects, including Stargate Universe. She warns, “This little guide to the films of Robert Carlyle is hardly comprehensive. I struggled with which of his film and television roles to include, but decided to focus on those that have gotten to me on an emotional level, which is why I’ve suggested these as ‘favorites’ rather than ‘the best of…'”

First-Look Photo of Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head

BULLET TO THE HEAD
Sylvester Stallone and Jason Momoa in fight scene in BULLET TO THE HEAD (IM Global)
Coming Soon has published the first image of its star Sylvester Stallone in a fight sequence for his new film Bullet to the Head. As it turns out, this fight sequence is with our very own Jason Momoa!

The movie’s storyline: “Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams with a New York City detective in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge.” From the picture, you can guess that Momoa’s character is among those who “stand in their way.”

The movie premieres April 13, 2012.

Hardly a day goes by that we don’t get an alert about BEAU BRIDGES, so we’ve gathered just a few links here for your perusal:

Christopher Judge’s Filming Projects and Convention Appearances

CHRISTOPHER JUDGE’s The Dark Knight Rises finished principal photography on November 14, according to Super Hero Hype, who has monitored co-star Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s social media comments. The movie stars Christian Bale as Batman in this final installment in the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. Super Hero Hype said, “In addition to India, the international shoot took place in England and Scotland and in the United States in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, New York and New Jersey.”

Speaking of filming projects, Judge canceled his appearance for the Official Stargate Convention in Los Angeles that was held this past weekend because “shooting his new movie prevents him from appearing at the show.” This new movie project might be To Have and To Hold, which Judge tweeted about starting on October 11. But given the time frame, this new movie project could be something else. We’ll let you know what we find out.

The next convention that Judge is scheduled to attend (that we know of) is the 2012 Emerald City Comicon, being held March 30 through April 1 at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle.

MSOL got a photo of Shanks in his new role as Chief of Surgery Dr. Charlie Harris, and we thought we’d just pass it along.

MSOL has also confirmed that Michael’s guest spot on Flashpoint will be aired Tuesday, November 22, on CTV at 8 PM Eastern. The storyline: “Spike responds to a distress call from Sam’s sister and finds himself in a hostile situation. The rest of Team One races to a call at the ultra-secure Metro Evidence Depot and finds a deadly connection between the two cases – one that puts Spike’s life on the line.” Shanks plays David Fleming, a major participant in Spike’s “hostile situation.” US viewers will probably be getting this episode on December 6, 2011, on ION.

San Diego, California – San Diego Zoo Global is expanding its conservation focus through the launch of its new Wildlife Conservancy. By bringing the worldwide conservation efforts of San Diego Zoo Global under a single umbrella, the Wildlife Conservancy provides people around the world an easy way to support and become involved with the organization’s efforts to save critically endangered species.

Although in its infancy, the Conservancy has already gained strong support from notable personalities and a sizable donation. Celebrities Lou Diamond Phillips and Jesse Tyler Ferguson have been named honorary Wildlife Guardians, helping to encourage others to become involved in this effort.

The Wildlife Conservancy is dedicated to bringing endangered species back from the brink of extinction by helping to preserve imperiled wildlife, bank crucial genetic resources, prevent wildlife disease, conserve habitat, restore nature, and inspire change. For nearly 100 years, San Diego Zoo Global has worked with rare and endangered species, managing them in both captive and wild settings, including more than 15 successful programs where species have been reintroduced into the wild. By sharing groundbreaking work on endangered species such as the giant panda, African elephant, Hawaiian crow, and California condor, and giving people a glimpse into these animals’ lives and the measures taken to preserve them, individuals will not only develop a better understanding of these species but will also be inspired to join the effort. Reminder: David Hewlett’s "Rage of the Yeti" Tonight!

RAGE OF THE YETI (Syfy)Stargate star DAVID HEWLETT directed the Syfy Original Movie Rage of the Yeti, premiering tonight at 9/8c!

Hewlett would tweet about his time in the harsh environment in Bulgaria while directing this monster movie, calling the Yeti an “evil snow monkey.” If you missed his 140-character observations, don’t be dismayed; here’s an interview conducted by io9’s Meredith Woerner, “Stargate’s David Hewlett tells us why his bulletproof Yetis are so pissed.”

Not only did Hewlett direct the movie, but he also has a part in it. He can be seen as billionaire collector Mills who sends out “a bunch of people” to find a rare item called the Codex. They end up in the Canadian Arctic, where some Yetis got loose during a botched transport from China. Hewlett agrees with the Yetis’ rage, “They’re so angry because they’ve been dragged from China and they found themselves in the Canadian Arctic. And believe me, being a Canadian, no one wants to be in the Canadian Arctic. It’s very, very cold.”

Two of the Indiana-Jones-wannabes hired by Mills include brothers Jonas (David Chokachi) and Jace (Matthew Kevin Anderson), who not only fight with each other in a brotherly way, but also take on the harsh climate and “pissed-off evil snow moneys” for their own survival.

Chokachi talked with Steve Eramo at The Morton Report about his time as an actor filming in the snow and cold of Bulgaria in the interview “Nightmare on Ice: Interview with Rage Of The Yeti’s David Chokachi.” The actor, who is known for his roles in Baywatch and Witchblade, knows the reputation of Syfy’s Original Movies, but asserts, “We’re not out there trying to sell this as Shakespeare in the Park. It’s fun and there’s something, I think, in it for everyone.”

If you love behind-the-scenes scoops, you should definitely check out both of these interviews. The filming in Bulgaria was a special challenge to everyone involved, where they faced real-life dangers. And here’s a sneak peek and related clips from Syfy that show some of the snow-heavy results of their dedicated efforts. Make sure to tune in tonight to watch the rest:
