When Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran used an Ancient intergalactic communications device found among the treasures of Avalon in the Glastonbury Tor, they were linked to the bodies of a married couple, Harrid and Sallis, in a far galaxy presumed to be the original homeworld of the Ancients, known as the Altera when they left their home galaxy millions of years ago. Because they were using the device in conjunction with Ancient communications stones and Harrid and Sallis were connected only through the stones, the link was one way, with Daniel and Vala taking over the two's bodies. Daniel and Vala attempted as best they could to blend in with the society to which Harrid and Sallis belonged, gathering information about the Ori from a villager named Fannis. Harrid, Sallis, and Fannis were collecting Ancient artifacts from the old burial grounds and working to spread the word that the Ori were lying about being the creators of humanity. With these artifacts, they had proof that there existed a race of humans which predated their supposed creation by the Ori. The Ori demanded that they be worshipped as gods and the creators of humanity. Anyone found to be denying their claim was placed in a sacrificial fire where either his soul would be found true and allowed to join the Ori or his existence reduced to dust. Unfortunately, Vala drew attention to herself because she could not bluff her way out of posing as Sallis. She was placed in the fire and burned to death, with Daniel unable to save her. A Prior of the Ori resurrected Vala and asked that they go with him. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")
The Prior led Daniel and Vala to the Plains of Celestis via a ring transporter. Then, they walked to the City of the Gods where the Prior placed them in a room so that they could read a copy of ''The Book of Origin'', the holy scripture of the Ori. After attempting to gain the identity of other unbelievers from Harrid and Sallis' village, the Prior preached for an hour about repentance. Daniel asked that they speak with the Ori directly and then used the story of Egidius of Vil Dare he had read in the book to speak to the Doci, the one who speaks the word of the Ori. Daniel said that he was like Egidius and needed "to speak things that can only be spoken in the light of the fire." The Prior immediately took him to see the Doci. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
[[Image:ori-wall.jpg|thumb|170px|left|Doci introduces Daniel to the Ori who are manifested as a wall of fire]]Even though Daniel never spoke his and his homeworld's names aloud, the Doci knew them. Most likely this information was gleaned from Daniel's mind, a power possessed by Ascended Beings and advanced humans. In addition to this information, the Doci determined the destination of a planet which had an SGC presence and sent a Prior there via the Stargate. Daniel's conversation with the Doci revealed that it is the intention of the Ori to spread the knowledge of the universe to all humanity. The Doci believed in the Path to Enlightenment and said that no one should be led astray. Those who rejected Origin would be destroyed. Daniel said that the people of his galaxy believed in many things and that they should gain their enlightenment on their own or not through the exercise of their own free will. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
[[Image:903eg.jpg|thumb|170px|left|Doci possessed by Ori]]Daniel questioned the Doci's interpretation of Origin, thinking that maybe the religion was skewed in some way from what the Ascended Ancients believe. In answer to that, the Doci gave his body to one of the Ori entities and allowed the Ori to speak with his voice. The Ori told Daniel that the Alterans were "evil" because they hid the "truth of the universe" from humanity in the Milky Way Galaxy. The Ori's last words through the Doci were "All will learn the power of the Ori." Then, the Ori left the Doci's body. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
Daniel and Vala | The Doci told the Prior who brought Daniel and Vala to the City of the Gods, "Evil has raised a great many unbelievers in a far off place. They must be shown the Path." (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
The | The Doci sent Daniel and Vala back to the village of Ver Ager with the intention that they be used as bait to identify any other unbelievers. Fannis was identified when he insisted on showing Daniel and Vala where he had hidden the intergalactic communications device that he had discovered in the old burial grounds outside his village. Daniel and Vala used the device to warn the SGC about the Prior sent through the Stargate and the threat the Ori posed. The Prior who had saved Vala's life (and Sallis') stopped the transmission of the device, killed Fannis, and took Daniel and Vala to the altar where they would be set on fire. In the meantime, Mitchell and Teal'c at the SGC destroyed the communications device by throwing it into the unstable vortex of a forming wormhole and the links to Harrid and Sallis were terminated. Harrid and Sallis, however, died in the fire. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
The Doci rewarded the village's Administrator for his service to the Ori in identifying the unbelievers. The Administrator was called to the City of the Gods and given the opportunity to see the Ori's wall of fire. The Ori progressed the Administrator in his evolution, giving him advanced human capabilities that were shown by the Priors. The Doci then revealed the Ori's plan: "Great holy armies shall be gathered and trained to fight all who embrace evil. In the name of the gods, ships shall be built to carry our warriors out amongst the stars and we will spread Origin to all the unbelievers. The power of the Ori will be felt far and wide and the wicked shall be vanquished." (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
Because of the great distance between the galaxies of the Ori and the Milky Way, the Priors who traveled to the Milky Way had no means of returning to their home. They kept in contact with the Ori through psychic links enhanced by the orb of their staffs. When it came time to convert Gerak, leader of the Free Jaffa Nation, into a Prior, the Prior used his staff on Dakara, and their consciousnesses were linked to the City of the Gods on Celestis. The Doci presented Gerak to the Ori's Flames of Enlightenment, and Gerak was converted into a Prior through the link. (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1")
The SGC learned from Orlin, an Ascended Ancient who had retaken human form to help Earth in the fight against the Ori, that the Ori were using the energy of their believers in order to grow more powerful on the Ascended plane. In simplest terms, they sapped the life force of each believer and left only emptiness behind when the person died. Because these people had never had the opportunity to exercise their own free will and seek their own salvation or enlightenment, Orlin stated that their deaths were of "the most meaningless kind." The Priors and the Doci were pawns in the Ori's plan for gaining all of these worshippers and were unaware of the true nature of the Ori. They were as much victims as the humans whom the Ori sought. The promise of ascension was a false one because the Ori didn't plan to share their power. (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1")
The Doci | The Doci continued to oversee the training of soldiers and the building of a massive fleet of warships to send to the Milky Way. But, one day, the Flames of Enlightenment went out. Not long after that, the Orici Adria, the Ori's created advanced human representative who later ascended, appeared. She told the Doci and the Priors that the Ori's flames went out because the Ori were not pleased with the work the believers had been doing in the Milky Way and wanted them to do more. Adria was lying to the Doci, Priors, and the Ori's followers; the Flames of Enlightenment had gone out because SG-1 sent Merlin's anti-ascended weapon through the Supergate, and it detonated and wiped out the ascended beings. Adria's ascension followed this event, and she assumed their position and gained all of their power for herself. The Doci followed her without question. (''Stargate: The Ark of Truth'')

They had just found the Ark, and it was presented to Adria in her Hall of Fire. The Doci and a few Priors proceeded to torture them, hoping to "cleanse" them from within. The Doci was not aware that the Ascended Ancient Morgan Le Fay was helping his prisoners to escape and locate the Ark, but he encountered them in Adria's Hall of Fire where the Ark was kept on a table in the center of the room. As soon as Adria appeared, he bowed before her. While Vala distracted Adria, Daniel entered the code to activate the Ark, and Teal'c shot the leg of the table to make the Ark fall open in front of the Doci. His face was washed in a bright light, and then his countenance changed. Summary
The Doci is an advanced human who spoke the word of the Ori, the Ascended Beings who manifested themselves in a wall of fire in the City of the Gods on the Plains of Celestis in a far away galaxy. He was the leader of the missionaries of the Ori, called Priors, and of the armies that were sent in spaceships to the Milky Way Galaxy. Through his exposure to the Ark of Truth, the Doci was made a key player in the final defeat of the Ori. (9.03 "Origin Part 3", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
Character Biography
There was only one Doci in the hierarchy of the religion of the Ori, called "Origin". He attended to the Ori and permitted his body to be possessed by one of the Ascended Beings so that the Ori could communicate with humans.
(9.02 "Avalon Part 2")
Then, they walked to the City of the Gods where the Prior placed them in a room so that they could read a copy of The Book of Origin, the holy scripture of the Ori.
Even though Daniel never spoke his and his homeworld's names aloud, the Doci knew them. Most likely this information was gleaned from Daniel's mind, a power possessed by Ascended Beings and advanced humans. In addition to this information, the Doci determined the destination of a planet which had an SGC presence and sent a Prior there via the Stargate. Apparently he knew that the Prior would not be permitted to go through Earth's Stargate directly, but would need to be escorted by SGC personnel from there. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
Daniel questioned the Doci's interpretation of Origin, thinking that maybe the religion was skewed in some way from what the Ascended Ancients believe.
The Doci told the Prior who brought Daniel and Vala to the City of the Gods, "Evil has raised a great many unbelievers in a far off place. They must be shown the Path." (9.03 "Origin Part 3")
The Doci sent Daniel and Vala back to the village of Ver Ager with the intention that they be used as bait to identify any other unbelievers. Fannis was identified when he insisted on showing Daniel and Vala where he had hidden the intergalactic communications device that he had discovered in the old burial grounds outside his village.
The Priors and the Doci were pawns in the Ori's plan for gaining all of these worshippers and were unaware of the true nature of the Ori. They were as much victims as the humans whom the Ori sought. The promise of ascension was a false one because the Ori didn't plan to share their power. (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1")
The Doci continued to oversee the training of soldiers and the building of a massive fleet of warships to send to the Milky Way. But, one day, the Flames of Enlightenment went out. Not long after that, the Orici Adria, the Ori's created advanced human representative who later ascended, appeared. When Stargate Command sent the Odyssey to the Ori's home galaxy in search of the Ark of Truth, an Alteran brainwashing device, in the mountain range near the City of the Gods, the Doci managed to have Daniel, Vala, and Vala's husband Tomin captured. They had just found the Ark, and it was presented to Adria in her Hall of Fire. The Doci and a few Priors proceeded to torture them, hoping to "cleanse" them from within. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
"Have mercy. I was blind, but now I see," the Doci pleaded as he crumbled and began to weep. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
The crusade in the Milky Way ended, and the people of the Ori's home galaxy were left to adjust to a new life. Tomin returned to his home galaxy to lead his people into a new age without the Ori. There was a part of the Ori's legacy, however, that still had worth: The Book of Origin had within its pages basic truths to teach, and those would be used to guide the people on their new Path to Enlightenment.
