Geopolitical Structure and History

The plains of Celestis are a cracked flat slate-like surface (9.03 "Origin Part 3"). A few inches of water covers the ground. The area has been accessed by a ring platform from Ver Ager, and it is unknown how else people travel to and from the area.

The City of the Gods is a large glowing city near the ring platform. Tall spires and advanced architecture make up the buildings. Their interiors are large in scale, with building materials of marble-like stone and large heavy wooden doors. The interior design is fairly spartan, with decor of medieval style wall hangings. The furniture is of a more traditional western-style that compliments the wall hangings.

The City of the Gods is where the Doci resides. He is the human religious head of the Path of Origin (9.03 "Origin Part 3"). Present there is a large ankh, the symbol of the Ori. Also here is a balcony leading out to a wall of fire, the manifestation of the Ori themselves. Faithful followers of the Ori are brought here to be infused with the power of the Ori, becoming Priors to that faith.

Alteran technology found in the human settlements is brought to Celestis, where it is destroyed in the fires there (9.19 "Crusade"). Humans studying to become monks for the path of Origin handle the daily chores there. At least one of these acolytes was a member of the Resistence, because he absconded with the Ancient Communications stones and terminal the Prior confiscated from Ver Ager and brought it to the head of the Resistence movement in Ver Isca, Seevis.

After the Prior resurrected Vala from being burnt at the Ara, he led her and Daniel Jackson to Celestis to find out about more unbelievers (9.03 "Origin Part 3"). When Daniel insisted he needed to speak of things "like Egedius of Vil Dare", the Prior brought him to the Doci, where Daniel met face to face with the Ori and discovered the real danger their exploration had caused all of the Milky Way Galaxy.

For his efforts in removing the heretics from Ver Ager, including ordering the execution of Harrid and Sallis, the Administrator of that village was brought to Celestis where he became a Prior(9.03 "Origin Part 3"). As Prior, this same man converted the leader of the Jaffa Nation, Gerak to the Path of Origin (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1"). When Gerak was wavering in his resolve, the Prior used his Ori infused powers to transport himself and Gerak mentally to Celestis. Though Gerak's physical form remained on Dakara, his mind was led through the city of the gods. Gerak met with the Doci there and presented before the Ori, Gerak became a Prior himself.

Ortus Mallum & The End of the Ori

The planet had snow covered mountain ranges far from the tidal plains where the City of the Gods was built (Stargate: The Ark of Truth). It was here on "Ortus Mallum" that the Alterans millenia ago decided to finally break with their Ori brethren and leave for a new galaxy. They decided not to use the "Ark of Truth" they invented, a device that would stop the mindless worship the Ori's path was taking, but had too much potential for abuse itself. Instead they left Ortus Mallum in a space ship, leaving the Ark behind.

In the present day, with help from Vala's estranged husband Tomin and intelligence from an Ori resistence fighter named Hertis, SG-1 found the region and searched for the Ark. Odyssey was forced to leave orbit, but Daniel, Tomin, Teal'c, and Vala discovered the Ark. Soon after the discovery, Teal'c was seriously wounded by an Ori weapon blast during a firefight and left for dead. The others were captured and brought to the City of the Gods. There they were held prisoner and tortured by Priors.

Teal'c struggled towards the city, collapsing near it. He was revived by Morgan le Fay surreptitiously healing him. Teal'c reached Daniel Jackson's cell and freed him, while Vala freed Tomin. Vala had been brought to Adria earlier, and knew the ark's new location. Adria and the Doci arrived to stop them. Vala distracted Adria, Daniel turned the Ark on, and Teal'c was able to knock it open, exposing the Doci to the truth about his "gods" and spreading the word to all the Priors in that galaxy. With Adria's power diminished, Morgan le Fay was able to confront Adria and they battled as energy. The team left Celestis to bring the Ark back home.
