Geopolitical and Structural History

The Goa'uld brought humans to PXY-887 centuries ago. They were destroyed by the native aliens who lived on the planet, who then considered themselves caretakers of the transplanted humans. The aliens interacted with the humans by taking on the identities of the tribe's spirits. Shapeshifters themselves, they were able to impersonate the animal gods of the people and lived in peaceful coexistence with the nomadic humans.

The planet of PXY–887 was a diverse geographical world, with fields, mountains, forests, etc as part of its landscape. High amounts of an ore called trinium were native to the planet. Trinium is 100 times lighter and stronger than steel. The Salish people harvested what trinium, which they called "ke", that would wash down river from the mountains. Although the ore was brittle, the Salish, with the guidance of the spirits, were able to refine it to make tools and use it for many things for every day living.

The SGC first explored PXY-887 and did not know of any habitation, but their find of the trinium ore made them very interested in the planet. SG-11 was sent for an excavation. When they were 48 hours late for their weekly check-in, Hammond ordered SG-1 to investigate. Before they could leave, someone on PXY-887 dialed in. An arrow was launched through the Stargate, its trinium tip piercing the window and striking O'Neill in the shoulder.

In her first command mission, Captain Carter led the rest of SG-1 to the planet. They found SG-11's abandoned camp and discovered totems memorializing the spirit Xe'ls defeat of the Goa'uld and Jaffa, but were soon captured and brought to the village. Once there, their main contact was Tonane, a young but respected member of the tribe who was kind and curious, and explained SG-11 was "with the spirits", and SG-1 would have to speak to them about their friends' release. A wary and skeptical SG-1 followed Tonane into the forest, speaking self-consciously to the wolf and raven they met there. Their arguments appeared convincing, since later, the spirits seemed to release SG-11 to them.

After the initial misunderstanding, SG-1 tried to engage in negotiation with the elders of Tonane's village to mine the trinium ore. The elders were willing to share the trinium that washed down river, but were concerned of the destructive methods SG-11 had already demonstrated to mine the trinium. They sent Tonane back with the SG teams to learn more about these alternative methods. Unbeknownst to SG-1, "SG-11" was in fact some of the "spirits", masquerading as the team.

The spirits watched over Tonane, and, in their disguise as SG-11, learned that the Pentagon was ordering the SGC to renege on negotiations–waiting until Tonane's nomadic people went further south before doing more mining. The spirits grew vengeful, using their powers to make everyone disappear, and trying to find Tonane and return him home. The raven spirit known as Xe'ls became injured during the takeover. Tonane learned the truth about his spirits, and he and Jack remained with Xe'ls as Daniel and Teal'c tried to dial PXY-887 and enlist the village elders help to advocate for them before everyone in the SGC disappeared. The spirits stopped them, vanishing Teal'c–but Daniel's quick wit allowed him to parley a truce with the wolf spirit Ta'kaya.

The spirits healed Xe'ls, and after conversation with Tonane, as well as Jack and Daniel, determined they would return home and bury their Stargate so as not to be disturbed by outsiders again. Leaving in peace, they returned everyone they caused to vanish to the SGC gate room, including General Hammond, Samantha Carter, Teal'c, and the missing SG-11.

As far as is known, the "Great Spirits" and Tonane's people continue to live in harmony on PXY-887, the people now knowing the spirits' true form and nature.
