Stargate Universe: 2.02 "Aftermath"

Intervention
Can Varro salvage relations with the Destiny crew in the AFTERMATH of the Lucian Alliance's attack?
Tonight (October 5) on Syfy at 9 PM ET: Stargate Universe episode 2.02 “Aftermath”, written by Robert C. Cooper and directed by William Waring.

Joseph Mallozzi wrote a few hints about this episode in his weblog: He was impressed with “Will Waring’s kick-ass director’s cut of Rob Cooper’s equally kick-ass script for Aftermath (in which actor Louis Ferreira delivers his best performance yet in a suspenseful, absorbing, emotionally-draining episode).” He also hinted about the story: “The best laid plans of mice and men… Things come apart in a big way, and our heroes are left to pick up the pieces. Gut-wrenching.”

Indeed, how will they pick up the pieces? Will Col. Young keep the Alliance soldiers in a cargo hold forever, or will some or all of them be permitted to roam freely on the ship now that they, too, are marooned there? Can any of them be trusted not to attempt take-over again? How will they feed all of these additional people?

It’s not all about the Alliance either. There were several people impacted personally by the attack. How are TJ and Young recovering from the loss of their baby daughter Carmen? How is it that Chloe was able to heal from her severe gunshot wound? Will Telford reveal to the Lucians that his brainwashing has been removed? And, will leadership on the ship change now that Young’s command has been weakened?
With food and water supplies running dangerously low and tempers flaring, a shuttle is deployed to an unstable planet whose Stargate has been locked out of Destiny’s controls.

The Lucian Alliance prisoners are growing restless and desperate. They know food and water supplies are dwindling and ponder what their future may hold. After conducting interviews with some of the Lucians, Camile Wray believes a number of the prisoners can be trusted and may even be helpful. Col. Young disagrees and is of the opinion that they are dangerous. After a group of prisoners attack their military detail, he orders that they be relocated to the next habitable planet.

Still recovering from his torture at the hands of Kiva, an exhausted Dr. Rush manages to unlock the master code to the ship’s bridge. There he finds a planet within range that seems viable but for some unknown reason, has been locked out of Destiny’s controls. Its Stargate also appears to be non-functioning. With the need for food and water becoming dire, he decides to override the ship’s controls and have a crew deployed to the planet in the hopes of finding much needed supplies.

Lt. Scott leads the team to the planet. On approach their shuttle encounters violent turbulence followed by power failure. It crash lands and slides into the side of a cliff causing critical damage. The only way back to the Destiny is through the planet’s Stargate and when they find it, it is in far worse condition than anyone could have imagined..
New TV Projects for Shanks, Hewlett, Francks, Nykl

Blogs and Twitter: great sources of information on what our Stargate stars are doing these days! Here’s a brief update on the new projects being done by Michael Shanks, David Hewlett, Rainbow Sun Francks, and David Nykl.

Michael Shanks

Michael Shanks BTS THE GOOD GUYS
Michael Shanks and Matt Nix behind the scenes in THE GOOD GUYS

Matt Nix of Burn Notice and of he-who-killed-off-one-of-the-best-characters-ever fame (concerning Michael’s character Victor) has hired Shanks to guest star on his new show, The Good Guys. Writer Tamara Becher published from her Twitter a behind-the-scenes picture that shows Shanks in a Dallas Strike Force uniform talking with director Nix. Becher also tweeted praise for his work in the guest appearance and then added, “Its not scripted for Shanks to die so i too hope Matt doesnt kill him.”

The Good Guys airs Fridays at 9 PM ET on FOX. From the show’s website: “From Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”), comes THE GOOD GUYS, a new action comedy about what happens when an old-school cop and a modern-day detective expose the big picture of small crime.” It stars Bradley Whitford as Dan Stark, “a washed-up detective who spends most of his time drunk or re-hashing his glory days.” Dan’s new partner is Jack Bailey, played by Colin Hanks, “an ambitious, by-the-book and overall good detective, but is sometimes a bit too snarky for his own good.” The show is set in Dallas, Texas.

We’ll be sure to post more about the episode when we get more details.

David Hewlett

“Sounds like me and cheerleaders next week…Just in case I wasn’t feeling old and grumpy enough already…Go Hellcats, Go!” Hewlett recently tweeted. Hopefully, we’re not jumping the gun in assuming that this means that he’s got a guest role lined up for Hellcats, a new show on The CW that is co-produced by Smallville star Tom Welling (who plays Clark Kent) and airs Wednesdays at 9 PM ET.

The show’s website describes it: “HELLCATS is a coming-of-age story about Marti Perkins (Aly Michalka, “The Roommate,” “Bandslam”), a pre-law scholarship student at Lancer University in Memphis, Tennessee. Marti is a hip, edgy townie with working class roots, whose world flips upside down, literally and figuratively, when her scholarship is cancelled and her well-meaning but irresponsible mother, Wanda (Gail O’Grady, “NYPD Blue,” “American Dreams”) neglects to inform her. Broke and out of options, Marti realizes the only way she can stay in school is by repurposing her dormant gymnastic skills to win a place on the Hellcats – Lancer’s legendary cheer squad – and the scholarship that comes with it.”

Now, Hellcats might sound familiar to Stargate fans because Ben Browder played the coach in the show’s pilot. Once the show was picked up by The CW, Browder had already moved on to other projects, so his part was recast.

Hopefully, Hewlett will tweet some more about this “sounds like me and cheerleaders” statement, and if it turns out he’s guest starring, we’ll keep our eyes open for the details!

Edited to add: Hewlett just confirmed on his Twitter account that he’ll be shooting two episodes of Hellcats!

Rainbow Sun Francks

Francks THE LISTENER character badge prop
Rainbow Sun Francks plays IIB Corporal Dev Clark in THE LISTENER

Francks posted via Twitter a picture of his Integrated Investigative Bureau badge prop for his character Corporal Dev Clark for an upcoming episode of the Canadian show The Listener. He later updated his followers on the project, “Another long day on set. No complaints here… Never been happier! #thelistener.”

The Cultural Post recently published an article about what to expect from the second season as we follow the adventures of Toby Logan, a paramedic who also has the psychic ability to hear people’s thoughts. The article states, “In the second season of The Listener, Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik), a paramedic from Toronto, has kept his habit of getting his nose in criminal investigations when he’s not on the job with his partner Oz Bey (Ennis Esmer). This leads Toby to get into a case investigated by Integrated Investigations Bureau (IIB) of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada’s federal police. Obviously, Toby has no other choice but to reveal his telepathic gift to Sgt. Michelle McCluskey (Lauren Lee Smith). Despite her scepticism, Michelle will come to think that Toby’s gift is an asset for the IIB. Therefore, while still being a paramedic, Toby is enlisted as a collaborator with the IIB. There, he joins Michelle and her team made of computer expert Corp. Dev Clark (Rainbow Sun Francks) and Alvin Klein (Peter Stebbings), an in-house legal expert specialized on complicated investigation cases.”

The first season of the show was aired in the United States on NBC, but apparently, the second season won’t be in the network’s line-up. However, the Canadian TV network CTV is expected to air it, but a premiere date has not yet been announced.

David Nykl

In his Letters from Pegasus blog, Nykl announced that he’ll be in the seventh episode of the third season of Fringe (which stars John Noble, one of our SG-1 guest stars). His blog entry, titled “Fringe Season 3, Ep. 7”, includes pictures of his Vancouver location shoot, annotated, “Fringe! Season three. This was a fun shoot. Do you ever watch the show? I Just watched most of season one to catch up with these folks. What a cool show.”

Fringe airs on FOX on Thursdays at 9 PM ET. From the show’s website: “Set in Boston, the FBI’s Fringe Division was introduced when Special Agent OLIVIA DUNHAM (Anna Torv) enlisted institutionalized “fringe” scientist WALTER BISHOP (John Noble) and his globe-trotting, jack-of-all-trades son, PETER (Joshua Jackson), to help in the investigation of an airline disaster that defied human logic. After the defining case was solved and revealed to be one of a series of unusual incidents linked together, the unlikely trio supervised by Special Agent PHILLIP BROYLES (Lance Reddick) and assisted by Junior Agent ASTRID FARNSWORTH (Jasika Nicole) was formed.”

If there are no interruptions in the broadcast schedule, episode 7 will air on Thursday, November 4, at 9 PM ET on FOX.

Solutions Opens SG-1 and SGA Portals

It used to be that fans of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis would tune in on Friday nights to watch their favorite teams go through the Stargate, get in trouble, get out of trouble, and return home. And now, just because we’re no longer seeing new adventures, it doesn’t mean that there’s nothing new to report! So Solutions thought it’d be fitting to open our new Portals for each show today—on a Friday.

The Portals have the latest news from our Solutions Blog and LJ feeds, links to episode and movie information stored in our Stargate Wiki, updates on the main cast actors, convention schedule, next episode schedule, and a feature box for videos, polls, and other fun fan stuff that might just so happen to come up.

Click on one of the images below to get to the selected Portal, or you can get to them through our blog’s secondary navigation menu above (the white strip) by clicking on the tab for “SG-1” or “SGA” (or better yet, make sure to bookmark them!). We hope to see you there soon!

Reminder: Shanks, Pileggi, Nemec Guest on The CW Tonight

The CW has two shows with our Stargate stars guest starring in them tonight (October 1)!

Lois Lane and Carter Hall in SMALLVILLE
Erica Durance and Michael Shanks in SMALLVILLE

First, at 8 PM ET, they’ve got Michael Shanks returning as Carter Hall in Smallville. The episode is called “Shield”, and in it, Carter is with Lois Lane (Erica Durance) in North Africa while she’s on her new assignment. We’ll learn a little more about his “tortured past with true love Shayera (Sahar Biniaz).” This appearance is the first of a few that Shanks did in the show’s current and final season.

Corin Nemec and Mitch Pileggi in SUPERNATURAL
Corin Nemec and Mitch Pileggi in SUPERNATURAL

Next, keep tuned in to The CW at 9 PM ET to watch Mitch Pileggi and Corin Nemec return in their recurring roles as Samuel Campbell and Christian Campbell, respectively, in Supernatural. Tonight’s episode is “Two and a Half Men” (IMDb says Nemec is in this episode, but TV Guide doesn’t list him.) The story: “Sam investigates when babies are kidnapped and their parents are murdered. When he finds a baby who is left behind, he contacts Dean to help with the case. Soon, the brothers encounter a shape-shifter who wants to take the child.”

Crossover with Universe Changes Atlantis Timeline

Stargate: Extinction, the Stargate Atlantis movie written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, will have to be tweaked a bit to make way for the guest appearances of David Hewlett and Robert Picardo, who are reprising their roles of Dr. Rodney McKay and Richard Woolsey, respectively, in the fifteenth episode of Stargate Universe‘s second season, “Seizure”.

We won’t be seeing this episode until sometime in 2011, but preliminary spoilers indicate that Woolsey and McKay will be involved heavily in negotiations with a Milky Way planet’s ambassador to dial Destiny using their naquadria core (like what was done at Icaruse Base). There is science involved, of course, and McKay must explain it for the laypersons while Woolsey puts on his legal hat.

Robert Picardo as Richard Woolsey

“I’m back in a business suit, so I’m apparently no longer a commander,” Picardo recently told his fans in a Q&A hosted by StarTrek.com. This may or may not be a spoiler, since Woolsey could be donning a business suit for this special occasion, having been called away temporarily from Atlantis Base, but we don’t know for certain. What if he isn’t the commander of Atlantis anymore? What does that mean for Woolsey and the rest of the Atlantis Base personnel?

All of which leads to the big question: “Where is Atlantis, anyway?”

So far, what we know for certain is that the Stargate timeline has been impacted by Woolsey’s and McKay’s presence in the negotiations, happening over a year since Atlantis returned to Earth in “Enemy at the Gate” in 2009. Mallozzi explained in his weblog back in July, “There was a reluctance to move ahead with an SGA crossover, particularly on my part, because the feeling was it would step on the timing of the SGA movie, Stargate: Extinction, the events of which directly proceed the Atlantis series finale, Enemy at the Gate. But given the delay on the movie front and the ideal premise pitched out by Remi Aubuchon and Brad Wright, it was decided to go ahead with the crossover. Not a big deal, but it will require some changes to the Stargate: Extinction timeline which, in turn, will beg a host of questions, some of which will be answered in episode #15, some of which won’t…at least not right away…”

Mallozzi had previously told his readers that a certain amount of time has passed since “Enemy at the Gate” relative to SGU and the movie: “Oh, if you’re wondering about in relation to SGU – maybe days. And if you’re wondering in relation to the Atlantis movie – maybe a week.” So, theoretically, Atlantis would still have been located on Earth when Icarus Base was evacuated in the series premiere “Air”. Then, the events of Stargate: Extinction would have taken place a few days later. Mallozzi gave away only a portion of the events happening in the movie (“The action starts on Earth, then shifts to Atlantis, then shifts to a planet, then back to Atlantis.”), but doesn’t tell us whether or not Atlantis started on Earth and ends up back in Pegasus. But he did say that the movie covers “Earth-based intrigue, intergalactic travel, a looming threat to the city of Atlantis, and a sometime friend and foe who may hold the key to averting disaster.” (Emphasis mine.)

When asked to confirm the new timeline, Mallozzi put his stamp of approval (he said “Correct”) on the following:

1. Stargate Atlantis: “Enemy at the Gate”

2. The third SG-1 movie: Stargate: Revolution

3. Stargate Universe: Seasons One and Two

4. The SGA movie: Stargate: Extinction

This change in the timeline might seem to have a big impact on the movie, Atlantis’s location at the time of the Milky Way-based negotiations in “Seizure”, and Woolsey’s status as commander, but Mallozzi said that it only requires “some minor re-jigging to the opening” of the movie’s script. We still don’t know whether or not the Stargate Program’s base of operations on Earth was moved from Stargate Command in Cheyenne Mountain to Homeworld Security in the Pentagon or to Atlantis nearby, and Mallozzi has teased that we might not know via SGU, but will have to wait for the SGA movie, which he still hopes will be produced soon.

Stargate Universe Premiere: 2.01 "Intervention"

Intervention
What form of an INTERVENTION will save Col. Young and others from the Lucian Alliance?
The wait is almost over! Stargate Universe returns to Syfy at 9 PM ET tonight (September 28) with episode 2.01 “Intervention”!

Season Two’s premiere episode was written by Paul Mullie (and Joseph Mallozzi) and directed by Andy Mikita. According to Mallozzi, the episode brings “the events of Incursion I and II…to an explosive conclusion” and is “chock full of great character moments.”

For sure, there are lots of questions that need to be answered concerning the condition of both Destiny and her crew who are at the mercy of strong forces from within and without:

Will Eli make it in time to let Scott and Greer back into the ship? Will Dannic execute Colonel Young and his military subordinates? Will Chloe be rescued in time? Will TJ and her baby survive the gunshot wound? Will Telford, Kiva, and Riley survive their injuries? Will Rush and Brody regain control of the ship from the Lucian Alliance? What will become of the civilians? Will the ship jump back into FTL before the next deadly radioactive blast from the pulsar?

Dannic agrees and the group is forced to travel through the Stargate to a rocky, uninviting planet. Shortly after arrival, they are joined by Varro and his men who have been deemed as traitors and also banished. When a deadly electrical storm begins to brew, all must work together to find safe shelter and survive.

Dr. Rush, Brody, Chloe and Eli have sealed themselves off in the hydroponics lab and have managed to obtain some control of the ship’s power. Dr. Rush conceives a risky plan to force Varro and the Alliance to surrender by draining the power from most of the ship’s shields. He informs Varro that when the next energy blast from the binary pulsar hits, everyone other than those in the lab will be killed by the radiation. An enraged Dannic refuses to back down, no matter what the cost.

When Separation Day is canceled, Goldie, who has always been both impatient and bold, runs away, risking not only her own life but also the lives of those she has left behind. In the chaos that follows, she is lured to the mysterious Museum of Dunt, where she meets the boy Toadspit and discovers terrible secrets. Only the cunning mind of a thief can understand the museum’s strange, shifting rooms. Fortunately, Goldie has a talent for thieving.

Which is just as well, because the leader of the Blessed Guardians has his own plans for the museum—plans that threaten the lives of everyone Goldie loves. And it will take a daring thief to stop him. . . .
