Thanks to @Campylobacter for a few reminders, plus some others things we missed, here are a few more Stargate actor updates!
Richard Dean Anderson is reprising his role as MacGyver in a set of three webisodes to promote the Citan van built by the iconic Mercedes Benz. Early photos and a trailer are available at the official website. RDA is on twitter: @andersonrdean
Claudia Black will guest star in an upcoming two-part episode of Syfy’s series Haven. A few hints about her role are here at Zap2it.
Ben Browder is guest-starring in the next episode of Dr. Who, airing this weekend in the US (BBC America), UK (BBC), and Canada. Ben gave an interview about his experiences to SFX here. Details about the episode (a Western!) and a trailer are here at TV Guide. Check your local listings!
J.R. Bourne (Martouf on SG-1) has won a recurring role on the US ABC hit drama, Revenge. From this article, “Bourne will play Kenny, a wealthy man with “rough edges” who works to conceal his true nature.” J.R. is also a regular in Teen Wolf, which airs on MTV in the US.
And of course, in case anyone didn’t know, Robert Carlyle continues his lead role in the US ABC series Once Upon A Time. Season 2 premieres September 30 in the US. Robert is on twitter as well: @robertcarlyle_

PAUL McGILLION will be playing the Knave of Hearts in tonight’s episode of ABC’s Once Upon a Time. The story, titled “Hat Trick,” is a modern-day interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, but with the twist that characters from fairy tales are actually alive and have been cursed by an evil queen to live in our world without having their “happily ever afters.”
SGU star ROBERT CARLYLE is among the regular cast, playing the dual roles of Rumpelstiltskin and Mr. Gold.
Once Upon a Time airs at 8/7c on ABC. Check your local listings for the times in your area. If you miss the episode, you can watch it online on Hulu and ABC Video.
Australia was also the home of the developers of the never-released Stargate SG-1: The Alliance video game. They haven’t let termination stop them from creating a trailer featuring their work, however. The Gaming Liberty has extensive coverage of the ill-fated game. Below is the trailer, but The Gaming Liberty article has much, much more.
Robert Carlyle, who currently stars in the series Once Upon A Time, was of the same mind [as Sean Bean’s that the snobbery of whether one was a film star versus a television star has diminished]. “I have always wanted to do a bit of US TV because in the past five to 10 years they’ve raised the bar incredibly. Probably when 24 came along – that changed everything. And then the advent of cable TV,” he said, adding that developments in communications technology also helped change the game. “In the past … there was still an attitude that if you did film, you didn’t do TV, and vice versa. That’s all gone now. I mean, look at it – you can watch movies on the Internet, on the phone, whatever. You don’t have to go to the cinema to see a movie.”
Christopher Judge’s Projects
CHRISTOPHER JUDGE co-stars in the last installment of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight triology, The Dark Knight Rises. The movie premieres July 20.
Judge is currently filming To Have and to Hold. The movie has had several filming locations, including Virginia, Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. Judge co-stars with Aiden Turner (“All My Children”), Kelly Greyson (“Alone Yet Not Alone”), Rusty Joiner (“Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story), Mark Dacascos (Hawaii Five-0) and John Rhys-Davies (“Lord of the Rings: Return of the King”). A release date has not yet been announced, but is set for this year.
Stallone About Momoa: “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy move like this”
Catch a video interview with Bullet to the Head star Sylvester Stallone at Best Movies Ever News & Reviews as he talks about the physical demands of this action film that co-stars JASON MOMOA. The legendary action star praises Momoa’s moves in their fire-ax fighting sequence. Bullet to the Head is being released April 13 to American movie theaters.
Mallozzi & Mullie: Still Partners in Sci-Fi
JOSEPH MALLOZZI and PAUL MULLIE joined the Stargate production crew during Season Four of SG-1 and were there when the television franchise ended. They’ve written a new comic book series, Dark Matter, which will hit shelves January 11.
LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS can be seen tonight (January 1) in the premiere of the Food Network’s Celebrity Cook-Off at 9 PM ET. There are six episodes and six celebrities: Olympic gold medalist swimmer Summer Sanders; Golden Globe-nominated actor Lou Diamond Phillips (The King and I); recording artist-actor Aaron Carter (The Fantasticks); singer, actor and founding member of ‘N Sync, Joey Fatone (Rent); recording star-actress Taylor Dayne (Aida); Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Coolio; comedian, writer and actor Cheech Marin; and Miss USA 2011 Alyssa Campanella. One of these celebrities will be sent home each week until there is only one still standing.
BEAU BRIDGES co-stars with George Clooney in one of this year’s Oscar-hopeful films The Descendants. In response to the movie’s popularity, as well as the actor’s own, I Am Rogue got a chance to talk with Bridges about The Descendants, “working with director Alexander Payne, his love for Hawaii, George Clooney, how filmmaking has changed over the years, and the book his father gave him about acting that he has now passed on to his own daughter.” The introduction includes a brief mention of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.
Carlyle Film Debuting at Sundance
ROBERT CARLYLE’s independent film California Solo will debut at the Sundance Film Festival this coming January (January 19-29, 2012) in Park City, Utah. The film tells the story of a “Britpop ex-rocker now living on a farm outside Los Angeles [who] must deal with personal demons.” It was directed by Marshall Lewy and also stars Alexia Rasmussen, Kathleen Wilhoite, A Martinez and Danny Masterson. Variety reports that the film does not yet have distribution rights in place.
If you’re interested in some of Carlyle’s previous work, Barbara Barnett of Blog Critics has compiled a list of must-watch projects, including Stargate Universe. She warns, “This little guide to the films of Robert Carlyle is hardly comprehensive. I struggled with which of his film and television roles to include, but decided to focus on those that have gotten to me on an emotional level, which is why I’ve suggested these as ‘favorites’ rather than ‘the best of…'”
First-Look Photo of Jason Momoa in Bullet to the Head
Coming Soon has published the first image of its star Sylvester Stallone in a fight sequence for his new film Bullet to the Head. As it turns out, this fight sequence is with our very own Jason Momoa!
The movie’s storyline: “Stallone plays a New Orleans hitman who teams with a New York City detective in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of Washington, D.C. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge.” From the picture, you can guess that Momoa’s character is among those who “stand in their way.”
ABC.net.au has posted a video interview with SGU star ALAINA HUFFMAN, entitled “Alaina Huffman can’t fake that baby bump,” which was recorded while she was appearing at the Armageddon conventions. They talked about her getting the role of Lt. Tamara Johansen in Stargate Universe, working with ROBERT CARLYLE, being a “super hero” on Smallville, and doing her own stunts…and of course, the “baby bump” — her fourth child.
Update on Judge’s Colonial Period Film To Have and to Hold
Compass Cayman’s “Colonial Period Film Shoots in Cayman” identifies CHRISTOPHER JUDGE as one of the three principal actors in the movie To Have and to Hold, a story about the early settlers of Virigina in the 1600s. According to this article, the movie is based off of the 1900 best-selling novel by the same name written by Mary Johnston. This is the third film to be made that’s based off of the book; the first two were silent films made in 1916 and 1922. It tells the story of an English couple who must survive imprisonment, shipwrecks, and pirate and Indian attacks while seeking a new life together in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619.

SFX Magazine did a survey to find out who their readers’ sci-fi favorites were, and the results show that many of their readers are Stargate fans!
SFX Magazine’s Top 100 Sci-Fi Icons: Stargate Icons
99. Nicholas Rush
A recent addition to the Stargate saga, Dr. Nicholas Rush, portrayed by Scotsman Robert Carlyle, is the type of character that you don’t know whether to love or to hate. Always thinking ahead several moves—he is a chess player, after all—Rush saw the discovery of Destiny as one of the most significant events in human history—and he had a major part in that discovery. His goals were often out of sync with the rest of the Icarus Project’s personnel, but he was depended upon to get them through the tough spots, and he often did.
95. Jack O’Neill
He was the first to walk through the Stargate in the movie and has been with us ever since to watch our backs! A Sci-Fi Icon list would not be complete without him. We got to love him as Colonel Jack O’Neill, leader of the flagship team SG-1, and now he’s all grown up to become Lt. General Jack O’Neill, commander of Homeworld Security. As the only military man who could say he’s been there and done it all, Jack has always been there for his people. Portrayed by TV legend Richard Dean Anderson, we cannot imagine anyone else filling Jack’s boots!
63. Daniel Jackson
It’s only appropriate that the man who opened the Stargate and made regular travel through it possible should be the top representative of Stargate in the poll. Dr. Daniel Jackson might have been a “dweeb,” but he certainly knew his stuff and learned how to adapt quickly to his changing role as the expert on human cultures that had been transplanted across the galaxy by the Goa’uld. And after the defeat of the System Lords, Jackson continued to show how closely linked he was to the Stargate by becoming the foremost expert on the Ancients, the builders of the Stargates, Destiny, and Atlantis. Ever resourceful and quick-thinking, Daniel’s ability to solve riddles and puzzles, as well as negotiate treaties, made him Stargate Command’s most respected civilian employee the military had ever had and his actor Michael Shanks one of the Internet’s most closely followed television actors.
Our Own Stargate Icon Poll
Admittedly, we don’t have the same readership as SFX, but we thought that it might be fun to choose our own Icons, limited to our main Stargate characters. We can have another poll for Top Villain, Top Secondary, etc., later—just let us know—but right now we’re concentrating on the main cast of characters. Choose your Top 5 here:
The Rest of SFX’s Poll
You can see the rest of the 100 Sci-Fi Icons as declared by SFX readers by visiting SoEntertain.Me: Science Fiction News: SFX Names Top 100 Sci-Fi Icons, wherein you’ll see that Ben Browder’s John Crichton made 49th. Thanks to our LJ subscriber ivanov_vladimir for the heads-up and link.
