Netan
Summary
Netan was the leader of the Lucian Alliance, a coalition of former smugglers and mercenaries who've banded together to take advantage of the power vacuum left by the demise of the Goa'uld. (9.16 "Off The Grid")
Character Biography
Netan coordinated the distribution of the Lucian Alliance's highly-addictive corn crop called kassa. He commanded a fleet of ha'tak and utilized the network set up by the Alliance to find the best places for him to be in order to wield his power. After Ba'al stole the Stargate and DHD from one of Netan's kassa-growing planets, P6G-452, Netan took three ha'tak to the location where Ba'al's ship was last seen. He demanded that Ba'al return his property, and when Ba'al refused, opened fire on Ba'al's ship. It just so happened that SG-1 was on Ba'al's ship at the time, manually tagging all of Ba'al's stolen Stargates and DHDs so that they could be beamed off using the Asgard beaming technology onboard Earth's newest Daedalus-class spaceship, the Odyssey.
SG-1 succeeded at their tagging, under heavy fire by Ba'al's Jaffa guards, and using the last bit of their ammunition to cover their activities in Ba'al's cargo hold, 'gated off of the ship using one of the stolen Stargates. All the tagged technology was beamed onto the Odyssey except for the Stargate SG-1 used in their escape. Netan's fleet took fire from the Odyssey's rail guns while SG-1 was still on Ba'al's ship, but after Netan destroyed Ba'al's ship, he targeted the Earth ship. The Odyssey retreated into hyperspace and left Netan without his Stargate. The kassa still on P6G-452 will most likely go bad because it was distributed through the Stargate. Earth and SG-1 have probably made it to the top of Netan's revenge list because of their interference. (9.16 "Off The Grid")
When the Ori began their invasion through a Supergate, Teal'c sought out Netan to gain the Lucian Alliance's help in the battle which was sure to take place. Netan, at first, wanted to kill Teal'c, but was convinced of the severe threat that the Ori posed. He took three ha'tak vessels to the site of the Ori's Supergate, arriving just after the Ori sent four massive warships through. (9.20 "Camelot Part 2")
Netan's mothership was severely damaged in the battle, though he fared better than most of the others who had met the four Ori warships at the Supergate. Angry that his ship was crippled, he took out his frustration on Teal'c, torturing him with a Goa'uld pain stick. Rather than have his ship available for rescue efforts, he had two newly-arrived ha'taks destroy it and then leave the area through hyperspace. Teal'c was rescued in time by the crew of the Odyssey using their Asgard beaming technology, but Netan most likely believed that he was killed in the explosion. (10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")
Word about the status of Teal'c must have gotten back to Netan because he didn't appear to be surprised to see him when he was captured by one of Netan's soldiers, Vashin. Teal'c was in a run-down cargo ship with a faulty cloak and his position was given away when the cloak failed. The reason why Teal'c was near Netan's ha'tak was because he was assisting Mitchell in an undercover operation. Mitchell used the Reol chemical ring to impersonate one of Netan's recluse seconds, Kefflin, in order to find the status of the Odyssey which had been captured by another one of Netan's seconds, Anateo. In the course of trying to locate the captured ship, Netan was challenged by another second, Gavos, whom Netan killed in front of four of his other seconds. Mitchell witnessed Netan's volatile nature, but held his cover throughout his time on Netan's ship until Tenat arrived to inform Netan of the Odyssey's whereabouts. (10.09 "Company of Thieves")
Tenat recognized Mitchell from his earlier dealings with him and threatened to reveal his identity to Netan if Mitchell refused to cut him in on the "scam". Mitchell pricked Tenat with the Reol Ring and then boarded his ha'tak impersonating Netan. (10.09 "Company of Thieves")
Carter, Daniel, Vala, and the rest of the Odyssey crew succeeded in regaining control of the ship. Unfortunately, Col. Emerson was executed by one of Anateo's men, Solek, in order to gain Carter's cooperation. In the process of regaining control of the starship, Vala beamed Anateo into space and Solek into parts unknown. Anateo's other men were captured and placed in a cargo hold while the crew made repairs. Upon arrival to the Odyssey's location, Netan demanded that Daniel surrender the ship or be destroyed. Daniel stalled for time so that the hyperdrive could be brought back online by telling Netan that they surrendered but that there was significant damage to the ship and no means for Netan's men to board it. Netan cut communications and then powered up his weapons. Rather than destroying the Odyssey, Mitchell's Netan ordered Tenat to fire upon the other ha'tak, which belonged to Netan himself. Tenat, at first, was hesitant, but once "Netan" promised vast territories, he complied. The real Netan contacted him and demanded an explanation, but Tenat wasn't able to provide one. Netan destroyed Tenat's ha'tak as the Odyssey escaped into hyperspace after beaming Teal'c and Mitchell over. (10.09 "Company of Thieves")
Netan's organization was left in shambles with Anateo and Gavos dead, his leadership still in question, kassa production failing due to drought and floods, and several of his planets coverted to Origin. With his attempt to destroy the Odyssey, he had in effect declared war on the Tau'ri whom he blamed for much of his misfortune. (10.09 "Company of Thieves")
When SG-1 destroyed a third kassa transport in a short period of time, Netan finally acted on his hatred of the team. He knew that SG-1's activities weren't about kassa, but about undermining his leadership. He placed a bounty on SG-1, and several bounty hunters and assassins from across the galaxy answered the call. The most formidable of these was Odai Ventrell. He managed to kill at least three of his competition before gaining access to Mitchell and Vala at Mitchell's high school reunion. With them as bait, he knew that the rest of the team would soon be there to the rescue. (10.15 "Bounty")
Daniel, Carter, and Teal'c managed to dispose of their own assassins before coming to Mitchell's and Vala's aid and had a clever plan of their own to entrap Ventrell in his own cloaked ship. Mitchell pursuaded Ventrell that if he met the opportunity of the Alliance's organizational chaos, he'd make more of a profit than bringing them in. Ventrell agreed to this and managed to get aboard Netan's mothership and assassinate him instead. With Netan gone, his seconds would fight among themselves, and Ventrell would most likely make a very hefty profit. (10.15 "Bounty")
