Bridges Family Selected for "Outstanding Family Award"

Stargate star Beau Bridges and his family are to be honored at the Fourth Annual Champions for Families Awards Dinner at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles on Thursday, Ocotber 21, for instilling family values. According to an announcement at ET Online, Bridges and his wife Wendy will be accepting the “Outstanding Family Award” on behalf of the Bridges family at the benefit being held by El Nido Family Centers, a non-profit organization that “strives to empower at-risk children, youth and families in L.A.”

“The family values that their parents, Dorothy and Lloyd Bridges, instilled in them have been passed on to three generations of Bridges. These very traits of gaining self-esteem and achieving goals are also the very core of El Nido’s programs that support and strengthen families,” stated El Nido.

The Bridges family also includes this year’s Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges, who can next be seen in the highly-anticipated Tron: Legacy that will be premiering December 17, 2010.

Update on Beau Bridges: NBC Rejects "The Rockford Files"

NBC has decided not to pick up the remake of The Rockford Files as a new fall series. This announcement comes before their Upfronts, scheduled for Monday, May 17.

Stargate star Beau Bridges was cast as Rocky, the father and best friend of the lead character Jim Rockford, but even with a strong cast, the pilot did not meet expectations.

Columnist Nellie Andreeva of Deadline Hollywood made the announcement in her article “PRIMETIME PILOT PANIC: ‘Rockford Files’ Is Now Dead At NBC”. She reported, “The first signs of trouble came in the casting stage when it took a long time to cast the lead famously played by James Garner on the original series as several offers to A-list actors didn’t pan out. But feedback from the audition of Dermot Mulroney, who has strong improv background, was great, and the pilot, which co-starred Alan Tudyk and Beau Bridges, went underway with Michael Watkins at the helm. However, NBC was underwhelmed by the completed pilot. It then underwent major recutting, which was reportedly done by the editor of one of NBC’s top drama pilots this year, the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Chase. But, while an improvement vs. the original cut, the new version of the pilot still didn’t impress NBC brass enough to muster a series order.”

Even though she announced that the show was “now dead at NBC,” Andreeva closed with the somewhat encouraging note, “Still, a redevelopment of the concept is a possibility.” If that means recasting, several Stargate Atlantis fans and film, television, and video game producer Jace Hall may get to reopen their campaign to get Joe Flanigan in the Jim Rockford role. But of course, there’s no replacing Beau Bridges as Rocky!

Browder & Bridges: Status of Their TV Pilots

We’re keeping tabs on the status of the television pilots in which two of our Stargate stars have been cast. This latest report comes from Deadline Hollywood‘s Nellie Andreeva, who regularly updates her “Primetime Pilot Panic” series of articles.

Andreeva opens up her report, “With pilots starting to be delivered, more information is trickling in for the 2010-2011 season. Remember, it’s still very early and many pilots have not been screened yet. This is Round 2, updating my previous, PRIMETIME PILOT PANIC: Early Hot List, with polling from agents, executives, showrunners, producers, directors, writers, etc:”

Beau Bridges: Bridges has been cast as Rocky, the father of the title character, Jim Rockford, in the remake of the James Garner classic The Rockford Files. The pilot is for NBC. Its status: “NBC has been very high on this for obvious reasons (well-known franchise … David Shore as creator). The network only received the pilot this weekend, early feedback from people who have seen the cut is positive.”

Ben Browder: Browder has been cast in the Hellcats pilot as the college football coach whose character breakdown describes someone who is far removed from the honorable Col. Cameron Mitchell of SG-1. The CW, known to target a young audience, is considering this pilot, which is executive produced by actor Tom Welling of Smallville, a show that was just renewed for its tenth season on the same network. Hellcats centers around the team members of the competitive world of college cheerleading. Even during casting, this pilot looked to be “on track” and Andreeva reports that it looks “very strong, very on-brand.”

The Rockford Files and Hellcats will premiere in the fall if picked up. Here’s crossing our fingers for “good luck” to both!
