Tonight (October 27) at 10 PM ET, Syfy will be premiering two episodes of their new half-hour reality show Hollywood Treasure.

Stargate star Christopher Judge has been seen in the promo (embedded below), but it’s not certain if he’ll be in either of the two episodes premiering tonight (“Let the Bidding Begin” and “I’ll Get You My Pretty”).

Recent behind the scenes photos show Judge with series host Joe Maddalena as he presented some Stargate-related treasures that might make it to auction—if Maddalena gets his way…

From the show’s homepage:

Get an inside view from the life of Joe Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History and the world’s largest auctioneer of original movie, television and pop culture relics.

Hollywood Treasure, follows Joe as he navigates his way through the intricate world of collecting showbiz and pop culture memorabilia: from the Wicked Witch of the West hat and the vintage Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car to Mary Poppins’ carpet bag and other unforgettable props and costumes.

Each week, you’ll travel the globe with Joe and his crew as they search for the most compelling, rare, and sought-after Hollywood memorabilia. A true adventure seeker, Joe tracks leads that send him to a variety of unlikely places— like combing through dusty basements and attics or meeting with world-renowned celebrities to peruse through their personal keepsakes.

One man’s prop is another man’s treasure so Joe is willing to do whatever it takes to get a piece of Hollywood history.

For more photos of Judge with the Hollywood Treasure team, visit Pop Tower, Episode World, and Syfy. To see what Stargate items you could bid on, visit Syfy’s Hollywood Auction 42 website for a catalogue of items that are going to auction on November 6, 2010, at the Globe Theater at Universal Studios.

Solutions Opens SG-1 and SGA Portals

It used to be that fans of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis would tune in on Friday nights to watch their favorite teams go through the Stargate, get in trouble, get out of trouble, and return home. And now, just because we’re no longer seeing new adventures, it doesn’t mean that there’s nothing new to report! So Solutions thought it’d be fitting to open our new Portals for each show today—on a Friday.

The Portals have the latest news from our Solutions Blog and LJ feeds, links to episode and movie information stored in our Stargate Wiki, updates on the main cast actors, convention schedule, next episode schedule, and a feature box for videos, polls, and other fun fan stuff that might just so happen to come up.

Click on one of the images below to get to the selected Portal, or you can get to them through our blog’s secondary navigation menu above (the white strip) by clicking on the tab for “SG-1” or “SGA” (or better yet, make sure to bookmark them!). We hope to see you there soon!

MSOL Annual Auction Kicks Off Today (Sept. 27)

Here’s the announcement from Michael Shanks Online (MSOL) concerning their 6th Annual MSOL Auction, which is being launched today (September 27) to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada:

We are happy to announce that on Monday, 27 September, the long awaited 2010 annual MSOL auction will be launched, 100% of the profits of which will be donated to the charity supported by Michael and his wife, Lexa Doig – the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.

As well as many Michael Shanks/Stargate SG-1 related items – including some of Michael’s own scripts from SG-1, and from recent tele-movies and series such as Smallville, Burn Notice and Sanctuary – the auction will also offer items from past and current popular shows, such as Star Trek, Supernatural, Torchwood, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape and Dr. Who and – of course! – Stargate: Atlantis.

To date, the MSOL auctions and associated fundraising efforts have raised over $105,000 U.S. for the MS Society of Canada.

This year’s event, which includes items donated and/or signed for the auction by Michael and Lexa, Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Ben Browder, Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Sir Patrick Stewart, William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy – among others – will, we hope, be just as successful as the last.

The first 20 items in the auction will be launched on 27 September, with more items added each day.

For more information, check out the MSOL Auction 6 home page – and please feel free to distribute the above news to any websites, lists, forums and online communities.

From crossovers to humor, Stargate co-creator and executive producer Brad Wright talked with Collider about each show (17 seasons and 2 movies) while standing in front of the Stargate on the Destiny set. Collider has given us an index into the video interview, so here’s what Wright addresses:

  • 2:15 – How challenging is it to come up with storylines for Stargate
  • 4:25 – Are there more characters from the original Stargate shows coming into SGU. He says in second half of season two there are characters from Stargate Atlantis including McKay and Woolsey

  • 9:00 – We talk about the move to Tuesday nights
  • 10:20 – How is season 2 different from season 1
  • 12:00 – He talks about how far ahead in story they are
  • 13:20 – Says they know where the series will end
  • 13:40 – He talks about the bridge set. Since the ship was built for season 1, the bridge for season 2, I ask if he knows what they want to build for season 3 and he says they do know. Says it could be next to the bridge set…
  • 14:50 – What percentage of the ship has been explored. He says far under 50%
  • 15:40 – How would he compare the first 10 and the second 10 episodes of season 2
  • 16:50 – Is there a location they want to film at that they haven’t been able to get to yet
  • 18:25 – Are there any Easter Eggs on the ship that fans should look out for

One thing stressed in this video interview – Universe has a new night on Syfy: Tuesdays! This coming Tuesday, September 28, at 9 PM ET, SGU’s Season Two premieres with “Intervention”. Check our SGU Page for other international premieres.

Maury Chaykin Has Passed Away at 61

Nerus
Maury Chaykin as Nerus (MGM)
Several news agencies are reporting the passing away of veteran actor Maury Chaykin today, his 61st birthday.

Stargate SG-1 fans will recognize him as Nerus, the fumbling Goa’uld scientist under System Lord Ba’al’s employ, but the actor has played many parts over the last 35 years, his last project being Barney’s Version, which will be premiering in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Chaykin was born in 1949 in Brooklyn, New York, but made his home and career in Toronto when he moved there in 1974. He made appearances in films from both Hollywood and Canada, and was recently seen in the HBO productions Entourage and Less Than Kind. To name but a few of his projects: Dances with Wolves and The Postman with Kevin Costner; Heavens Fall, which is currently available on Hulu; and appearances on television shows such as Eureka, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Andromeda, Due South, and, of course, two episodes of Stargate SG-1.

His performances have been recognized with several nominations and wins, including Canadian Comedy Award for Less Than Kind in 2009, Gemini Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Guest Role Dramatic Series for At the Hotel in 2006 and one in 1998 for La Femme Nikita, Genie Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Whale Music in 1994, among others.

Chaykin is survived by his wife, actress Susannah Hoffmann, and their daughter. Solutions extends our deepest condolences to Chaykin’s family and friends.

Big Finish Changes Format for Season Three Audio Dramas

Big Finish Productions‘ Stargate audio dramas are going to take a different direction for their third season, presently planned to premiere in Q3 2010.

Big Finish SG-1 Generic
Season Three will consist of six SG-1 episodes featuring Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran

Thus far, each season has had six episodes, three of them for SG-1 and three for Atlantis. The third season will see two SG-1 trilogies instead, meaning that there will be no Atlantis episodes for an entire year of the dramas’ run. What’s more, all six episodes of the two trilogies will have Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran, voiced by Michael Shanks and Claudia Black, as the leads. Cliff Simon is also expected to voice System Lord Ba’al in the first trilogy. The storyline for the second trilogy hasn’t been revealed. (Source: Big Finish May Podcast, transcribed in part at MSOL)

Author and story editor James Swallow wrote in his LiveJournal about the additional change in format for the third season of Stargate stories, “The third series of Stargate audios are moving from the ‘narrated’ style of the first two series to full cast dramas. … The audios will be set during the last season of Stargate SG-1/prior to Ark of Truth.”

As far as who’ll be writing these six episodes, Swallow elaborated, “I’m writing episode one (entitled Half Life) as well as story editing. … Joining me are; Sally Malcolm, who has written several Stargate audios (Gift of the Gods, Perchance to Dream, Savarna) and Stargate novels (A Matter of Honor, The Cost of Honor, Rising); Steve Lyons, author of many excellent Doctor Who novels and audios (including The Fires of Vulcan, Colditz and Blood of the Daleks); Peter J. Evans, author of the Stargate Atlantis novel Angelus and the Durham Red novels; Sharon Gosling, writer on the Stargate series guides and audios (A Necessary Evil, Pathogen, The Kindness of Strangers, Lines of Communication); and Richard Dinnick, writer of Space 1889: The Lunar Inheritance and Sapphire & Steel: The Surest Poison.”

Swallow also visited the Gate Pages LiveJournal Community to “offer some perspective” to smooth over some of the hurt that Atlantis fans are feeling in reaction to a year without new stories. “Firstly, any suggestion that Big Finish have ‘given up’ on Stargate Atlantis is incorrect. A lot of factors affect the choices made for a production like the Stargate audio dramas, and these include the availability of actors, budget concerns (some Stargate cast members are just beyond our means), and interest on the part of actors/agents (some cast members aren’t interested in doing audio stories); but for a small company like Big Finish, the key ones are sales and audience support. The decision to make series three exclusively Stargate SG-1 and alter the format was not made lightly, and certainly not because of any ‘anti-Atlantis’ agenda.

“By far the best way for SGA fans to show interest for future Atlantis audio dramas is to support the six current SGA releases from series one and two of the Stargate audios, by purchasing CDs or downloads directly from BF’s website here – http://www.bigfinish.com/Stargate-SG-1-and-Atlantis.”

What do you think of this change in direction for the audio dramas? Let us hear from you in our comment section below.
