Beau Bridges Cast in USA's "White Collar"

Beau-BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has been cast in a major guest role as FBI Agent Peter Burke’s mentor in the USA network hit White Collar, according to a TV Guide exclusive:

Bridges, 69, will play Agent Kramer, a well-decorated federal officer and art expert who instructed Peter (Tim DeKay) when he trained at Quantico. Kramer has been Peter’s mentor ever since, and his paternal nature offsets his intimidating presence.

The three-time Emmy winner begins shooting Tuesday on the episode, titled “Countdown.” It will air Aug. 9 and serve as White Collar’s midseason finale.

White Collar just started its 16-episode third season on June 7. The show’s main page at USANetwork.com gives its premise:

White Collar is about the unlikely partnership of a con artist and an FBI agent who have been playing cat and mouse for years. Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer), a charming criminal mastermind, is finally caught by his nemesis, FBI Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay.)

When Neal escapes from a maximum-security prison to find his long-lost love, Peter nabs him once again. Rather than returning to jail, Neal suggests an alternate plan: He’ll provide his criminal expertise to assist the Feds in catching other elusive criminals in exchange for his eventual freedom. Initially wary, Peter quickly finds that Neal provides insight and intuition that can’t be found on the right side of the law.

White Collar co-stars Stargate SG-1 guest star Willie Garson (Martin Lloyd, “Point of No Return,” “Wormhole X-Treme,” and “200”) as Mozzie, Neal’s “most trusted friend and co-conspirator.” TV Guide recently announced that another SG-1 veteran, Ernie Hudson (Commander Pernaux, “Ethon”), will be guest starring as Mozzi’s childhood mentor.

White Collar airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on USA.

Beau Bridges in New Family Movie Night Production

Beau BridgesStargate star Beau Bridges has filmed a new movie for Family Movie Night sponsored by Procter & Gamble and Walmart. The movie is tentatively titled Home and Away and was shot in Wilmington, North Carolina.

A few articles about the locations used by the production have recently surfaced. One such article is from Star News Online, which states that Wilmington was selected for its “choices for small-town, middle-America locales along with a strong, experienced crew base and a solid tax incentive.” The movie “centers around an NFL player (Ryan McPartlin) who steps away from the game to return to his childhood home in North Carolina to be with family after his father (Beau Bridges) has a heart attack.”

Another article, published at Bonesville.net, talks about how the production took over East Carolina University’s strength and conditioning director Jeff Connors’ office to film some of the professional football scenes. Connors has a son, who is also named Beau, working on the production. He explained the plot in more depth: “Supposedly, it’s going to be about a coach who had two sons who played for him in high school. One went on to play in college, who was not expected to go on and play in college. The other did not because he had some sort of injury. The brothers became estranged and then, at some point, they were brought back together.”

Filming began May 23 and ended yesterday, June 17. It will premiere on September 3 as part of Family Movie Night, when “you can be confident that the programming on their screens will be fun and action-packed, without the worry of having to dive for the remote to change the channel when inappropriate ads or other content comes on.” Joe Flanigan starred in another of the series’ movies, Change of Plans, which premiered earlier this year. Fans can expect to see the DVD for the movie in Walmart stores soon after airing.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, AMANDA TAPPING‘s Sanctuary will not be on tonight, but will return to Syfy at 10 PM ET next week.

From PR-USA.net: “Documentary Channel (DOC) commemorates U.S. soldiers with a line up of outstanding military themed documentaries in a two-day tribute to Memorial Day on Monday, May 30 and Tuesday, May 31. Never seen before on television, the two-hour theatrical version of “Operation Homecoming” airs Monday, May 30, at 8 p.m. (ET/PT). […] The Oscar nominated “Operation Homecoming” is a unique documentary that explores the firsthand accounts of American troops through their written words, and offers a profound window into the human side of the war in Iraq. “Operation Homecoming” evolved out of a National Endowment for the Arts project that gathered the writing of soldiers and their families who have participated in the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Interviews and dramatic readings by such actors as Robert Duvall, Josh Lucas, BEAU BRIDGES, Blaire Underwood and Justin Kirk transform selections from this collection of writing into a deep examination of the experiences of the men and women who are serving in America’s armed forces.”

Actor and Crew Updates

  • Not too long ago, JOE FLANIGAN mentioned in an interview, “I separated my shoulder in a mountain biking accident. I was coming down a single track trail at a furious speed – I just got brand new handle bars that were extra long – they snagged a branch and they just kind of threw me over and I landed on my back. I actually feel pretty damn lucky that it’s just an AC separation and not something more serious.” He went on with the injury to the Vancouver Stargate Con, and then he finally had the surgery on April 27. All is well, as the actor kept his fans updated on his Twitter (including providing a picture of him in his hospital bed), joking that on the day after, “My new breasts look great.”
  • MARK SAVELA did an interview with Sci Fi and TV Talk Blog about his prospect pilot Echoes. This production has several former Stargate cast and crew involved. They filmed a 13-minute prospect piece from the two-part pilot script, hoping to use it as a pitch for the creation of a new series. This crew is very well put together as they transfer their many years with Stargate into their own production. Echoes features JENNIFER SPENCE and MIKE DOPUD in leading roles.
  • BRIAN J. SMITH did an interview with Redeye Chicago/Show Patrol about his upcoming Syfy movie Red Faction: Origins. Smith declares that this movie is not going to be your typical “MOW” and that “It’s definitely quality and it has really, really smart minds behind it.” Stargate alum ROBERT PATRICK also stars. Red Faction: Origins premieres Saturday, June 4, at 9 PM ET.
  • CHRISTOPHER JUDGE and JEWEL STAITE are scheduled to be at the Tulsa Trek Expo in June, according to Tulsa World.
  • JASON MOMOA has been interviewed a lot recently, covering his roles of Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones (currently airing on Sunday nights) and of Conan in the upcoming Conan the Barbarian movie (coming August 19). These interviews are indexed in our SOLUTIONS LJ here: Conan Movie and Game of Thrones.
  • MICHAEL SHANKS did a video interview while he was in France a few weekends ago for the SciFi15 convention. Solutions LJ has the embedded video in which Shanks discusses Stargate and his most recent projects.
  • MING-NA is back in Vancouver shooting her recurring role in Syfy’s Eureka. Her new role is Alice Wen, a senator who arrives in Eureka to handle a sensitive matter within Global Dynamics.

From Broadway World: “LITTLE BLACK DRESS – a new play by Ronan Noone, whose play THE ATHEIST starring Campbell Scott enjoyed considerable success Off-Broadway in 2008 – will be given its New York premiere this spring Off-Broadway, with previews set to begin Sunday, May 1 prior to an official press opening on Thursday, May 5 at Theatre at St. Clement’s (423 W. 46 St.) in Manhattan. Presented by The Exchange – an Off-Broadway theatre company specializing in new work – LITTLE BLACK DRESS is directed by Ari Edelson. Featured in the cast of LITTLE BLACK DRESS are Nina Hellman, Tobias Segal, Brian J. Smith and Dan Oreskes. Beau Bridges returns tonight in his recurring role as Nick Brody in ABC’s Brothers & Sisters at 10:01 PM ET. The episode is called “For Better or for Worse” and is summarized in this press release provided by Futon Critic: “After Sarah confronts Brody about his being her father, she decides she no longer wants him to be a part of her life or Nora’s, but Nora just can’t seem to let him go. Meanwhile, Olivia struggles with the new addition of baby Daniel to the family.”

News Flashes and Brief Follow-Ups

  • SG-1 in 'Window of Opportunity' in Season FourFranchise – With news that the Stargate franchise as we know it will end in a few weeks with the airing of SGU’s final episode “Gauntlet,” executive producer Joseph Mallozzi has begun to look back on his time with the productions, starting in Season Four of Stargate SG-1. He’s posting a series of entries dedicated to each season that he and writing partner Paul Mullie were in Vancouver, a place that they thought they would only be for a couple of years! Start reading his “Days of Stargate Past” in his April 22nd and April 23rd entries. Sadly, these reminiscent entries were sparked by the fact that they will start “de-rigging” Stage 5: “Stage 5, as you may or may not know, was home to Stargate: Universe’s Icarus base but, for many, many years before that, it held the standing sets for Stargate: SG-1: the SGC corridors, the infirmary, the control room, the briefing, Hammond’s office (later occupied by O’Neill, then Landry) and, of course, the gate room. Sad times indeed.”

Showcase EndgameMichael Shanks guest stars tonight at 10 PM ET/PT in the episode “The Caffeine Hit” of Canada’s new Showcase show Endgame. One of Stargate‘s guest stars is part of the regular cast, Veena Sood, who’s played an Abydonian and Dr. Kelly in episodes of SG-1. The show centers around the Russian-born former World Chess Champion Arkady Balagan, who, after witnessing the assassination of his fiancée and her high school friend in Vancouver, has become agoraphobic. He doesn’t leave the hotel where he lives. Such a life has caused him to amass a debt, so as a way to earn money, he uses his brilliant mind to solve mysteries. He has friends and associates, many who manage or work in the hotel in which he lives, who help him in his investigations. In “The Caffeine Hit,” Shanks plays “a desperate amnesiac” for whom Balagan “begins to unravel the man’s complicated identity.” When Shanks told his official website (MSOL) about the role, he mentioned that his character Casey Roman “finds out he may have been a real asshole.” MSOL has images of Shanks in his role as Roman in their gallery, but beware of spoilers! We can’t wait to see what this new leading action star will do in the future.” Not only does Momoa have the starring role in Conan the Barbarian, but he also has a recurring role in HBO’s new Game of Thrones series that will be premiering April 17. You’ll find links of interest for Momoa’s projects here at Solutions on his homepage in our Actors…Beyond the Event Horizon feature.

Friday,     April 1 Lou Diamond PhillipsLou Diamond Phillips is the host of a new franchise on the Military Channel that premieres tonight: An Officer and a Movie. Per the Military Channel’s press release, each installment “pairs Phillips with retired and active duty officers who lived through major battles or have an expertise in the conflicts depicted in notable Hollywood films. As each film makes its Military Channel premiere, AN OFFICER AND A MOVIE provides expert commentary that can only come from being ‘on the ground’ during the action as these officers reflect on the themes of that night’s film and also provide personal insight that puts each movie into a modern context.” In tonight’s movie at 8 PM ET, Phillips and retired Marine Col. Arthur Athens “discuss the themes behind the 1979 classic film The Great Santini, starring Robert Duvall, who was nominated for an Academy Award for this role. As the director of the U.S. Naval Academy’s Vice Admiral James B. Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership, the former Commandant of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Athens is uniquely able to comment on what it means to be a leader in the military and within a family’s home, where in his own life he has ten children.” For more on the airing schedule, visit http://military.discovery.com/.
