Conan the Barbarian (final poster)JASON MOMOA’s break-out role as Conan in Conan the Barbarian can be seen today as the movie makes its wide release premiere in American theaters, in both 2D and 3D! The storyline: “A quest that begins as a personal vendetta for the fierce Cimmerian warrior soon turns into an epic battle against hulking rivals, horrific monsters, and impossible odds, as Conan realizes he is the only hope of saving the great nations of Hyboria from an encroaching reign of supernatural evil.”

AMANDA TAPPING’s Sanctuary should be wrapping its principal photography today, according to the BC Film Commission. This is Season Four of the hit show, which will consist of 13 episodes and will air on Syfy this fall.

The Official Stargate Convention in Chicago starts today and runs through the weekend. Stargate guests include CHRISTOPHER JUDGE, JOE FLANIGAN, DAVID HEWLETT, PAUL McGILLION, BEN BROWDER, ALEXIS CRUZ, KAVAN SMITH, J.R. BOURNE, GARY JONES, ALEX ZAHARA, DAN PAYNE, and DAVID DeLUISE.

White Collar posterBEAU BRIDGES guest stars in USA’s hit show Blue Collar tonight at 9/8c. He plays Agent Burke’s mentor, Agent Kramer, in the show’s mid-season finale.

Season 1 of JAMIL WALKER SMITH‘s animated series Hey, Arnold! is being released on DVD today.

Also being released on DVD and Blu-ray today is Steve Austin’s Tactical Force. You’ll get to see several Stargate alum in this one, including MICHAEL SHANKS, LEXA DOIG, STEVE BACIC, PETER BRYANT, PETER KENT, and MICHAEL EKLUND. Stargate stunt double DAN RIZZUTO also does stunts and has a “thug leader” role. It’s no surprise that so many of our Stargate actors appear in this movie since it was filmed in the Vancouver area.

Wizard World’s Chicago Comic Con is this weekend, and several Stargate actors are due to appear: ALAINA HUFFMAN, MORENA BACCARIN, JULIA BENSON, SEAN PATRICK FLANERY, and LOUIS GOSSETT, JR.

Also this weekend, Star Trek is having an incredible celebratory convention in Las Vagas! There are several of this 45-year-old franchise’s actors who will be in attendance who also guest starred in Stargate: RENE AUBERJONOIS, NICOLE DE BOER, JOHN DE LANCIE, ALAN SCARFE, ARMIN SHIMERMAN, CONNOR TRINNEER, MUSETTA VANDER, and GWYNYTH WALSH.

Syfy will be showing a marathon of SGU episodes today, leading into the series finale. Starting at 9 AM ET, you’ll see “Deliverance,” then each Season Two episode that follows until last week’s “Blockade” at 5 PM ET. “Blockade” will show again at 8 PM ET, which effectively gives viewers a two-hour send-off with the last hour of SGU following at 9 PM ET.

  • Jonas Quinn as a member of SG-1Jonas Quinn Fans! – Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi had stated in an earlier weblog entry that there was supposed to be a mention of Jonas Quinn in last week’s episode “Seizure.” SG-1 fans who tuned in to find out what has become of the former team member were disappointed! No mention at all was made, although we do know that his home world survived the Ori invasion. In response to fans’ disappointment and questions whether or not it was even considered to mention Jonas, Mallozzi wrote, “Yes, in fact I gave a note at the script stage that, at the very least, some mention should be made about the fact that Jonas Quinn had retired from public office. Don’t know what happened but it obviously didn’t make it onscreen.”

An Officer and a Movie hosted by Lou Diamond PhillipsLou Diamond Phillips hosts the next installment of the new feature on the Military Channel called An Officer and a Movie. Tonight’s installment (8 PM ET) is Heartbreak Ridge. From the Military Channel’s press release: “Hard-living Gunnery Sgt. Tom Highway (Clint Eastwood) has seen action in Korea and Vietnam. Approaching retirement, he returns to his old Marine Corps unit to train a young reconnaissance platoon. His training and their skills are tested when the U.S. enters into war in Grenada. Providing expert commentary for Heartbreak Ridge is Bronze Star recipient for his actions in Iraq, Maj. Timothy S. Brady, Jr. (USMC). Maj. Brady planned more than 25 battalion orders for the conduct of combat operations for Operation Iraqi Freedom including the execution of combined ‘heliborne’ assault operations.” There will be reruns of the feature, so check out the airing schedule at the ‘An Officer and a Movie’ homepage.

Saturday,   April 9 Joe Flanigan stars in Syfy’s Original Movie Ferocious Planet, premiering at 9 PM ET. This movie used to be called The Other Side and is about when “[a]n experimental device malfunctions, transporting a group of observers to another dimension. The group must repair the machine in order to return home while fending off bloodthirsty creatures.” The DVD is available on pre-order at Amazon.com with a release date of June 7 (Region 1).

Make a Movie Like SpikeJamil Walker Smith wrote the screenplay, directed, and starred in his independent film Make a Movie Like Spike. This movie will be screened at 2:30 PM at the ReelWorld Film Festival in Toronto. Synopsis: “Armed with dreams that extend beyond their block, Luis and Ronald, two best friends from Los Angeles, videotape their last 36 hours before shipping off to Afghanistan. One hundred days before Obama’s inauguration, these young men have joined the Marines together to face the obstacles and circumstances that seem to overwhelm their passage into manhood. Luis wants to be a filmmaker and Ronald wants to travel the world and raise a family. Through the lens of Luis’ video camera, they capture their friends, family members and the places they call home in order to remember who they are and where they come from. In their darkest hour, they turn on the video camera for the last time and document the final moments of their journey home. TV Guide’s summary: “Emily sabotages Annie’s relationship with her friends when the girls go on a weekend getaway; Dixon interrupts Debbie and Ryan’s romantic dinner; Silver and Navid continue their affair; and Adrianna goes to the tabloids with an exclusive story.”

HULU has scheduled today to be the last day to offer all episodes of Stargate SG-1.

Wednesday, February 2 Michael Shanks‘s Arctic Blast is being released on DVD for rental in Australia today. The movie is currently airing on Canada’s Movie Central as well.
Thursday,   February 3 Jamil Walker Smith‘s 80-minute war drama Make a Movie Like Spike premieres at the Santa Barbara Film Festival at 8 PM. Smith wrote the original screenplay and directed the film. From Little Plow Films: “Armed with dreams that extend beyond their block, Luis and Ronald, two best friends from Los Ange­les, video­tape their last 36 hours before ship­ping off to Afghanistan. One hun­dred days before Obama’s inau­gu­ra­tion, these young men have joined the Marines together to face the obsta­cles and cir­cum­stances that seem to over­whelm their pas­sage into man­hood. Luis wants to be a film­maker and Ronald wants to travel the world and raise a fam­ily. We’re in the process of trying to verify with MSOL whether or not tonight’s episode of the Cartoon Network’s Tower Prep is the one in which Michael Shanks has the role as Professor Literature. We were under the impression that the episode he appeared in was directed by Stargate alum Peter DeLuise, but the information in the IMDb record for tonight’s episode says differently. If you miss watching at 8 PM ET/PT, the show’s official website posts the episodes for later viewing online. [NOTE: MSOL has since confirmed that Michael’s episode is going to air on November 16.]

Today is Corin Nemec‘s birthday!

The Official Stargate Convention will be in Los Angeles, California, this weekend starting today. Guests include Michael Shanks, Joe Flanigan, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, Dan Shea, Christopher Heyerdahl, Steve Bacic, and Andee Frizzell. Ben Browder is scheduled to appear nearby for the Official Farscape Convention.

Saturday, November 6 Robert Picardo will be in “The ‘Doctor’ Is In…An Evening With Robert Picardo” for two sessions today only: 2 PM CT and 8 PM CT at the Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (CityRep). There will be a Q&A, an auction, and a raffle for brunch with the star with proceeds to benefit CityRep.

If you missed Paul McGillion in the Lifetime movie Confined, it will be repeated tonight at 8 PM ET and again at midnight. [NOTE: If you have a screencap of McGillion in this movie, we’d love to post it in his gallery for Beyond the Event Horizon (it needs to be 260×146).]

  • SG-1 and SGA Portals – Each Friday, a new feature is posted to the Portal pages. This past Friday, we worked from the keyword prompt “prophets”. Who comes to mind when you hear that word? Sanctuary makes its Season Three premiere with Paul McGillion returning as Terrence Wexford in the conclusion to “Kali” on the UK’s Watch at 9 PM. Details about his return and about this new season in general can be found in our previous blog entry.

Cartoon Network’s Tower Prep premieres tonight at 8 PM ET/PT. Michael Shanks is due to appear in the third episode as Professor Literature.

Beau Bridges in MY GIRLFRIEND\'S BOYFRIEND

The movie My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend premieres in the United States today exclusively at MegaPlex 17 at the Jordon Commons in Sandy and MegaPlex 20 at The District in South Jordan, Utah. Beau Bridges co-stars with Alyssa Milano in this film that was shot in its entirety in the state of Utah, so this first screening holds significance to local production crews.

Saturday, October 23 Richard Dean Anderson and Beau Bridges are scheduled to attend the Sea Shepherd gala tonight in Los Angeles.

Michael Shanks, Ben Browder, and Torri Higginson are scheduled to appear at the Armageddon Expo this weekend (October 23-24) in Auckland, New Zealand. Make sure to visit the event’s website for the rest of the guest list and schedule.

Robert Picardo, Jewel Staite, and Dwight Schultz are slated to appear at the F.A.C.T.S. event at the Flanders Expo in Belgium this weekend (October 23-24).

Kavan Smith in GROWING THE BIG ONE

Kavan Smith (Maj. Evan Lorne) can be seen in Hallmark Channel’s new movie Growing the Big One at 9 PM ET (repeats at 11 PM ET). Shannen Doherty, Aaron Pearl, and Smith co-star in this story about a woman (Doherty) who needs money to keep her grandfather’s farm from foreclosure. She decides to grow the largest pumpkin to win a $50,000 prize. Her neighbor (Smith) helps her with the project, but they end up “cultivating something much more evergreen.”

  • David Hewlett – Last week we reported that Hewlett was filming an episode of The CW’s new show Hellcats. Hewlett tweeted soon thereafter that he was actually going to be filming two episodes. No more details are available, other than that Hewlett enjoyed the location shoot that was near his home and that “this Hellcats is almost like work! Alarmed to discover these kids are as nice as they are good-looking!”
