Daniel continued to watch over his fellow teammates while he was an Ascended Being. He was also a protector of the planet Abydos, the planet to which he and Jack first went through the stargate. Because Daniel's late wife Sha're and her family and people were Daniel's adoptive family, he had a strong tie to them. He and Jack had helped free the Abydonians from the Goa'uld System Lord Ra ("Stargate: The Movie"). When the Goa'uld System Lord Anubis threatened Abydos, Daniel attempted to protect them, but the cost was very high. He was returned to human form and left without his memory, deposited on a planet which had a village come to be known as Vis Uban. When SG-1 went to this planet thinking that it might be the location of The Lost City of the Ancients, the existence of which Daniel had discovered from a tablet he found on Abydos when Anubis was attacking, they found Daniel living among the nomads. He had no memory of who he was and had taken the name Arrom, meaning ''naked one''. Jack and Sam convinced him to come home with them to discover his identity and past and, after deep consideration, he decided to go with them back to Earth. Soon, he was given a position back on SG-1, making him a fifth member of the team for a short while (6.22 "Full Circle" and 7.01 "Fallen Part 1").

About a year later, Colonel O'Neill was given a promotion to Brigadier General and given command of the SGC. Major Carter also received a promotion, giving her the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. With these promotions, Carter moved into the commanding officer position of SG-1, even though there are no other Air Force personnel on the team. It was deemed by General O'Neill that SG-1 would remain a three-member team, but if he ever decided to go out in the field, he'd do so with SG-1 (8.02 "New Order Part 2" and 8.03 "Lockdown").

Carter's lead of SG-1 lasted only one year, up to the time that the Goa'uld, Replicators, and Anubis were defeated. Afterwards, the team disbanded as each member went to different assignments. Teal'c was the first to leave, going to his new home of Dakara in order to help lead his people into their new-found freedom as a member of the Free Jaffa Nation's High Council. Carter went to Area 51 to lead in the facility's Research and Development department while she helped Cassandra Fraiser through a rough time in her life. Daniel was the last of the original team still at the SGC, since O'Neill was promoted to Major General and given the command of Homeworld Security in Washington, D.C., but his time there was coming close to an end as he began packing his office for his move to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy. The Ori managed to conquer several worlds through the use of the Priors, but their work thoughout the galaxy was quickened by the arrival of four massive warships through a "Supergate" (an extra large Stargate suspended in space near a black hole which serves as its power source). One of these Supergates had been destroyed when the thief and con artist Vala Mal Doran substituted a cargo ship as one of the 'gate's sections. Vala attempted to escape through the ring transporter, but her matter stream was diverted by the gravitational forces of the nearby black hole and transported to the Ori's home galaxy. There, she was impregnated by the Ori with a child who was later born on one of the warships which had just arrived and decimated the Milky Way Galaxy's allied fleet. The child, called the Orici by those who follow Origin, was a daughter Vala named Adria. Daniel rescued Vala from the warship, but they had to leave Adria behind. After serving as a consultant with the SGC on a probationary basis because her past dealings with the SGC, and especially with Daniel, were manipulative and detrimental, Vala proved herself as trustworthy in the fight against the Ori. Vala herself claimed that her changes were due in large part because someone finally believed in her and she actually found a home on Earth with the people of the SGC. She was given a position on SG-1 and became its fifth member. (9.06 "Beachhead", 9.19 "Crusade Part 1", 9.20 "Camelot Part 2", 10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3", 10.02 "Morpheus", 10.08 "Memento Mori")

Following the defeat of the Ori (10.14 "The Shroud", ''Stargate: The Ark of Truth''), both Carter and Mitchell were promoted to the rank of Colonel, and Carter was given the command of the Atlantis Base for a year (''Stargate Atlantis'': 4.03 "Reunion", 5.01 "Search and Rescue Part 2"; ''Stargate: Continuum''). During her term as the leader of the Atlantis Expedition, the Pegasus Replicators (Asurans) and the Wraith were dealt serious blows, so the civilian International Oversight Advisory (IOA), the organization that financed the majority of Stargate Command's budget, decided that a military leader was no longer needed there and replaced her with one of their own, Richard Woolsey.
Carter and Major General Jack O'Neill joined SG-1 (Mitchell, Jackson, Teal'c, Vala) at the new Tok'ra homeworld after the last of the Ba'al clones was captured. They all wore the SG-1 patch to represent the many years that their team fought the Goa'uld System Lords. The last Ba'al symbiote clone was extracted from the host, but the Tok'ra and Tau'ri were unaware that the original Ba'al had evaded capture. The original Ba'al himself traveled back in time to 1939 to prevent the Stargate from ever reaching the United States, but he was killed by an alternate future version of Cameron Mitchell, who witnessed Ba'al's changes to the timeline and traveled back in time to prevent Ba'al's plan from ever taking place, thus saving the timeline and defining the true end of the rule of the System Lords. (''Stargate: Continuum'')
During the year that followed Carter's return to Earth from Atlantis, she apparently rejoined the team and resumed going on off-world missions. It was during one of these off-world missions that Stargate Command's highly-respected former commander Lt. Gen. George Hammond passed away with a sudden heart attack. In his honor, the new Daedalus-class starship that was next to come off the assembly line was renamed from ''Phoenix'' to ''General Hammond''. Carter was given the ship's first command. Once she departs, SG-1's configuration will be as follows: Col. Cameron Mitchell, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala Mal Doran. (''Stargate Atlantis'': 5.20 "Enemy at the Gate")

Former and current members of SG-1 assembled at Ba'al's extraction ceremony
SG-1's team insignia

Summary

SG-1 is the designation for the flagship team of the Stargate Command (SGC). Its history is the subject of the television series, Stargate SG-1.

Season One

During the pilot of the series, 1.01-1.02 "Children of the Gods", SG-1 was composed of three individuals made known to us:

These individuals went to Chulak and became imprisoned by the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis. They were rescued by Teal'c, one of Apophis' First Prime Jaffa warriors. Teal'c helped all of the SGC personnel and their fellow prisoners escape Chulak and return safely to Earth.

At the conclusion of the episode, 1.03 "Enemy Within", Teal'c was given the fourth position in SG-1, making it an unspecified standard that all SG teams would have four members.

Seasons Two Through Five

In the Season Three episode, 3.03 "Fair Game", Samantha Carter was promoted to the rank of Major.

Also during the third year of SG-1's existence, Col. Jack O'Neill was assigned an undercover operation to reveal the identities of rogue NID agents and moles planted in the SGC who were stealing technology from Earth's alien allies. The Nox, Asgard, and Tollan had all threatened to disassociate with Earth because of this group's operations. When he went undercover, part of the operation was for him to appear to become rogue himself and this left his commanding position open on SG-1. General Hammond assigned Marine Colonel Robert Makepeace as SG-1's new commander because he was the most experienced SG team commander after Jack O'Neill:

It was discovered that Col. Makepeace was the mole planted in the SGC to retrieve alien technology that was small enough to carry through the stargate undetected. He was placed under arrest for treason and Jack returned to his command of SG-1. (3.18 "Shades of Grey")

During the fourth year, SG-1 was temporarily disbanded when a new commander was placed in charge of the SGC in General Hammond's stead. Jack was forced into some time off to consider his career options, while Carter and Daniel were assigned base-only positions and Teal'c was assigned to SG-3. This arrangement did not last long, and soon everyone was in their proper positions once again. (4.15 "Chain Reaction")

SG-1 remained primarily composed of the same four individuals for the first five years of the series. However, in the episode, 5.21 "Meridian", Dr. Daniel Jackson was exposed to a lethal dose of radiation which resulted from a lab accident on the planet Kelowna. He was given the opportunity to ascend to a higher plane of existence by the Ascended Being Oma Desala to escape permanent death and to join the enlightened. He accepted this offer.

Season Six

Several replacements were attempted to fill the void that Dr. Jackson left behind. Captain Hagman was the ninth recruit who tried to fill Dr. Jackson's shoes. The remaining members of SG-1 were not very welcoming of any person assigned to replace their fallen comrade, so they quickly booted the poor linguist out. (6.01 "Redemption Part 1")

Through much persistence and Colonel O'Neill's dislike for the possibility of having a Russian teammate, Jonas Quinn joined SG-1 in the episode, 6.02 "Redemption Part 2". Jonas was a native of Kelowna, the very planet which was saved by Dr. Jackson's heroic sacrifice to prevent the radioative core of a bomb from going critical. The Kelownans were planning to use this bomb in a world war. Jonas was witness to Dr. Jackson's courage and after realizing that his government was not honorable in trying to blame Daniel for the accident, calling it sabotage, he defected to Earth, bringing a sample of the radioactive material naquadria with him in hopes that shield technology could be developed to protect his people from the Goa'uld.

Seasons Seven and Eight

He had no memory of who he was and had taken the name Arrom, meaning naked one.

Daniel joined Jonas on a mission to destroy the advanced weapon Anubis possessed on his mighty ship. They were sent to hack into Anubis' computer system, coded in one of the oldest dialects of the Ancients' language. Daniel was versed in this language and Jonas had a working knowledge of it. They were successful in getting into the computer and the weapon was destroyed, but in their attempt to get off of the ship, Jonas was captured. Daniel worked at getting him free and together they were able to escape to Kelowna where Anubis' ship was stationed over the capital city of Jonas' nation. They were aided by other System Lords, at Teal'c's bidding, to destroy Anubis' ship, but, unknown to them at the time, Anubis escaped. Jonas was asked to return to his homeworld as representative on their now-united world's council to educate them on the Goa'uld threat.

Jonas' departure from the SGC meant that SG-1 returned to the four-member team of Colonel Jack O'Neill, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Major Samantha Carter, and Teal'c (7.02 "Homecoming Part 2").

Seasons Nine and Ten

(8.17 "Reckoning Part 2", 8.18 "Threads", 9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.03 "Origin", 9.06 "Beachhead")

The new commander of the SGC, Gen. Hank Landry, was still unpacking his office when Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell reported to his new position. Mitchell was given his choice of positions by Gen. O'Neill after Mitchell helped save SG-1 in Antarctica against Anubis' armada. Mitchell was an F-302 squadron leader and was gravely injured in the battle. He was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery while he stayed in the battle with a crippled jetfighter. Upon reporting for duty, Mitchell was told that he was the new leader of SG-1 and that he needed to pick his team. Since Mitchell had gone through over a year of physical therapy to get back into fighting form in order to be on SG-1, he was extremely disappointed that he would not be working with Carter, Jackson, and Teal'c. Landry purposefully placed Mitchell in assignments which would involve him with Daniel's projects, ones that had prevented Daniel from going to Atlantis, until finally, Mitchell reunited the team as they faced a new and powerful galactic threat in the form of Ascended Beings known as the Ori and their advanced human missionaries, called Priors. (7.22 "Lost City Part 2", 9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.06 "Beachhead")

Post Season Ten

Following the defeat of the Ori (10.14 "The Shroud", Stargate: The Ark of Truth), both Carter and Mitchell were promoted to the rank of Colonel, and Carter was given the command of the Atlantis Base for a year (Stargate Atlantis: 4.03 "Reunion", 5.01 "Search and Rescue Part 2"; Stargate: Continuum).

(Stargate: Continuum)

During the year that followed Carter's return to Earth from Atlantis, she apparently rejoined the team and resumed going on off-world missions. It was during one of these off-world missions that Stargate Command's highly-respected former commander Lt. Gen. George Hammond passed away with a sudden heart attack. In his honor, the new Daedalus-class starship that was next to come off the assembly line was renamed from Phoenix to General Hammond. Carter was given the ship's first command. Once she departs, SG-1's configuration will be as follows: Col. Cameron Mitchell, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala Mal Doran. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.20 "Enemy at the Gate")
