Claudia Black Gets Arc in The CW's "90210"

Claudia BlackTV Guide has published a Keck’s Exclusive that announces that Stargate star Claudia Black has a new television role!

William Keck wrote:

Aussie actress Claudia Black, who parlayed the role of Aeryn Sun from Farscape to Stargate SG-1, has landed the sexy role of Guru Sona on The CW’s 90210.

Beginning in late January, Sona will appear in a three-episode arc as a yoga guru who the West Beverly girls meet on a yoga retreat. But as the mind-body-spirit studies continue, Naomi (AnnaLynne McCord) will begin to rely on Sona for far more than how to master the downward facing dog position.

From The CW’s website:

Expectations are high, hormones are raging, and scandals are hiding around every corner. From the brightest moments of love and happiness to the darkest hours of shame and fear, senior year at West Beverly promises to be an unforgettable journey into the lives, hopes and dreams of those lucky few who call “90210” home.

90210 is aired on Mondays at 8 PM ET, but if you miss an episode, you can catch it soon thereafter online at the show’s website. As soon as we learn when Black’s episodes will air, we’ll let you know.

Black's "Museum of Thieves" Out Today (Sept. 28)

Stargate‘s Claudia Black was the reader for Lian Tanner’s Museum of Thieves, a juvenile fiction book from Random House that is being released today (September 28) in audio book form. A brief audio clip in which Black masterfully takes on the voices of various characters has been embedded here for your listening pleasure. The story is meant for readers in grades 3 through 6, but Black fans of any age would most likely enjoy listening to the adventure.

From the publisher:

Welcome to the tyrannical city of Jewel, where impatience is a sin and boldness is a crime.

Goldie Roth has lived in Jewel all her life. Like every child in the city, she wears a silver guardchain and is forced to obey the dreaded Blessed Guardians. She has never done anything by herself and won’t be allowed out on the streets unchained until Separation Day.

When Separation Day is canceled, Goldie, who has always been both impatient and bold, runs away, risking not only her own life but also the lives of those she has left behind. In the chaos that follows, she is lured to the mysterious Museum of Dunt, where she meets the boy Toadspit and discovers terrible secrets. Only the cunning mind of a thief can understand the museum’s strange, shifting rooms. Fortunately, Goldie has a talent for thieving.

Which is just as well, because the leader of the Blessed Guardians has his own plans for the museum—plans that threaten the lives of everyone Goldie loves. And it will take a daring thief to stop him. . . .

Museum of Thieves is a thrilling tale of destiny and danger, and of a courageous girl who has never been allowed to grow up—until now.

Updates on Black, Judge from San Diego Comic Con

News about Stargate stars Christopher Judge and Claudia Black has come out of the San Diego Comic Con recently:

Christopher Judge

Teal'c in 'Babylon'
Christopher Judge as Teal'c (MGM)
He was a panelist with the Dead Space team from Visceral Games who are developing the animated film Dead Space Aftermath for which he lent his voice. This report from Game Spot gives us an glimpse into his Dead Space experience:

Next it was Judge talking about his voice acting work in Dead Space Aftermath. Judge, who has a sci-fi background playing Teal’c on Stargate SG-1, was asked about some of the challenges going from a traditional acting medium like television to using purely his voice in an animated movie. He joked that the hardest part was going from a “monosyllabic” character like Teal’c to playing someone far less stoic. Expanding on that joke with some seriousness, Judge said that he initially had a hard time believing that the script was for an animated movie, praising the script for being far more “emotional” than most animated fare. They then showed a very work-in-progress clip from Aftermath, which despite its unfinished animation, served to show that the plot will deal with Judge’s character searching desperately for his daughter.

G4TV reports that Judge’s character’s name is Cutner and that Aftermath will be released in both DVD and Blu-ray formats.

In this report from Gamer Zines, we get a summary of Aftermath as it applies to the world of Dead Space:

Due to release in January 2011, Dead Space Aftermath, the animated feature, will explain the events of the first-responder mission to Aegis VII and explores how the Government sends an unwitting crew of people to get exposed to Marker shards. The Government is secretly trying to produce a viable “Marker blueprint” carrier, no matter the costs.

Claudia Black

Vala Mal Doran in THE ARK OF TRUTH
Claudia Black as Vala Mal Doran (MGM)
She was a panelist with Epic Games during which she announced that she will be doing voice work for Gears of War 3. From the Epic Games website:

The spectacular conclusion to one of the games industry’s most memorable and celebrated sagas, Gears of War 3, is poised to take the world by storm next spring. At this time next year, fans around the world will experience the epic story finale to the Gears of War trilogy, when the third installment in one of the biggest franchises in Xbox history arrives in stores worldwide: April 5, 2011, in North America, April 7 in Japan, and April 8 in Europe and the rest of the world.

More about her character comes from Cinema Blend’s Game Blend and Digital Spy:

Sci-fi fans will be pleased to know that the space vixen, Claudia Black, from former popular shows like Stargate: SG-1 will be joining the voice-cast of Gears of War 3. […] Claudia Black’s role will be designated to the sexy female [COGS] soldier, Sam [Byrne]. She’ll be hanging with the big boys (literally, they’re very big) and blasting down on the Locust horde like no tomorrow.

Black’s previous Epic Games title was Mass Effect 2, which was released in January this year.

Big Finish Changes Format for Season Three Audio Dramas

Big Finish Productions‘ Stargate audio dramas are going to take a different direction for their third season, presently planned to premiere in Q3 2010.

Big Finish SG-1 Generic
Season Three will consist of six SG-1 episodes featuring Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran

Thus far, each season has had six episodes, three of them for SG-1 and three for Atlantis. The third season will see two SG-1 trilogies instead, meaning that there will be no Atlantis episodes for an entire year of the dramas’ run. What’s more, all six episodes of the two trilogies will have Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran, voiced by Michael Shanks and Claudia Black, as the leads. Cliff Simon is also expected to voice System Lord Ba’al in the first trilogy. The storyline for the second trilogy hasn’t been revealed. (Source: Big Finish May Podcast, transcribed in part at MSOL)

Author and story editor James Swallow wrote in his LiveJournal about the additional change in format for the third season of Stargate stories, “The third series of Stargate audios are moving from the ‘narrated’ style of the first two series to full cast dramas. … The audios will be set during the last season of Stargate SG-1/prior to Ark of Truth.”

As far as who’ll be writing these six episodes, Swallow elaborated, “I’m writing episode one (entitled Half Life) as well as story editing. … Joining me are; Sally Malcolm, who has written several Stargate audios (Gift of the Gods, Perchance to Dream, Savarna) and Stargate novels (A Matter of Honor, The Cost of Honor, Rising); Steve Lyons, author of many excellent Doctor Who novels and audios (including The Fires of Vulcan, Colditz and Blood of the Daleks); Peter J. Evans, author of the Stargate Atlantis novel Angelus and the Durham Red novels; Sharon Gosling, writer on the Stargate series guides and audios (A Necessary Evil, Pathogen, The Kindness of Strangers, Lines of Communication); and Richard Dinnick, writer of Space 1889: The Lunar Inheritance and Sapphire & Steel: The Surest Poison.”

Swallow also visited the Gate Pages LiveJournal Community to “offer some perspective” to smooth over some of the hurt that Atlantis fans are feeling in reaction to a year without new stories. “Firstly, any suggestion that Big Finish have ‘given up’ on Stargate Atlantis is incorrect. A lot of factors affect the choices made for a production like the Stargate audio dramas, and these include the availability of actors, budget concerns (some Stargate cast members are just beyond our means), and interest on the part of actors/agents (some cast members aren’t interested in doing audio stories); but for a small company like Big Finish, the key ones are sales and audience support. The decision to make series three exclusively Stargate SG-1 and alter the format was not made lightly, and certainly not because of any ‘anti-Atlantis’ agenda.

“By far the best way for SGA fans to show interest for future Atlantis audio dramas is to support the six current SGA releases from series one and two of the Stargate audios, by purchasing CDs or downloads directly from BF’s website here – http://www.bigfinish.com/Stargate-SG-1-and-Atlantis.”

What do you think of this change in direction for the audio dramas? Let us hear from you in our comment section below.

Reminder: Black on "NCIS", McGillion on "V" Tonight (May 11)

Claudia Black on NCIS (CBS)
Claudia Black as Velvet Road on NCIS (Eric McCandless/CBS ©2010 CBS Broadcasting Inc.)
Here’s a reminder that two of our Stargate stars are making appearances in new episodes of NCIS and V tonight (May 11):

Watch Claudia Black on NCIS on CBS at 8 PMT ET/PT in the episode “Borderland” as the character Velvet Road. TV Guide’s summary: “The case of a marine’s murder turns into the search for a serial killer. Meanwhile, Abby travels to Mexico to deliver a speech, and McGee accompanies her.”

And then watch Paul McGillion on V on ABC at 10 PM ET in the episode “Fruition” as the character Dr. Lawrence Parker. McGillion described his experience in a recent interview, “I just finished filming Fruition, the second to last episode of V‘s first season. I play a character named Dr. Lawrence Parker, a telemetry expert who gets himself into a sticky situation so to speak. So we’ll see where it goes from there. Most of my scenes were with Elizabeth Mitchell (Erica Evans), who is fantastic. It was a great set to work on with a terrific crew as well as cast.” TV Guide’s summary: “Erica seeks out a scientist who may have created a weapon that allegedly worries the Visitors; Anna announces that the Vs may be departing, and gives Chad a list of Fifth Column members to investigate.”
