Now that Amanda Tapping has wrapped principal photography for the third season of her hit TV series Sanctuary, she’s doing some traveling on behalf of her charitable organization Sanctuary for Kids and is blogging about it on its website!
She opens her most recent entry:
It’s virtually impossible to put into words the swell of emotions right now, but I will attempt to give you a glimpse of what we have experienced so far.
“Sanctuary for Kids (S4K) is a not for profit foundation that serves to provide sanctuary for children who do not live with the right of safety in their lives.” Tapping is in Nepal visiting the Nepal Orphans Home (NOH) in Kathmandu, and you can follow her and daughter Hannah not only from the blog, but also from their Sanctuary For Kids Twitter. She said that she’ll be spending the night at NOH, so expect another entry soon!

Sky1/UK: SGU 2.05 “Cloverdale” at 9 PM.
We’re in the process of trying to verify with MSOL whether or not tonight’s episode of the Cartoon Network’s Tower Prep is the one in which Michael Shanks has the role as Professor Literature. We were under the impression that the episode he appeared in was directed by Stargate alum Peter DeLuise, but the information in the IMDb record for tonight’s episode says differently. If you miss watching at 8 PM ET/PT, the show’s official website posts the episodes for later viewing online. [NOTE: MSOL has since confirmed that Michael’s episode is going to air on November 16.]
Wednesday, November 3
Tonight is the Industry Gala for the 25th Annual Gemini Awards, and we’ll learn if our SGU nominees will be taking home their trophies:

Amanda Tapping‘s Sanctuary returns with its third season tonight in Canada (Space, 9 PM ET) and the United States (Syfy, 10 PM ET) with “Kali III”, and Stargate star Paul McGillion is guest starring in his recurring role as Terrence Wexford!
“Kali III” picks up where the previous season left off as “two ships are wrecked and a tidal wave races toward the coast of Mumbai, India, following Wexford’s attempt to kill Big Bertha. When Wexford tries to kill the creature again, Magnus risks her life to intervene…” (TV Guide).
After tonight’s conclusion, where will the new season be taking its viewers? Tapping teased a little about the show’s direction in a recent interview, “Because we have a 20-episode pickup, we have the luxury of doing really big story arcs this year, which is very exciting. So we have two major threads that we’re pursuing throughout this season: one dealing with Helen’s past a bit more, and one that is something that’s much bigger than Big Bertha.”
McGillion told his fans that he’ll be back in next week’s episode (“Firewall”) as well. “I returned to Sanctuary, and my character of Terrence Wexford comes back and opens up the first two episodes of the third season. He’s especially prevalent in the second episode, and some very dramatic stuff happens onboard the ship. The lizard is back and in full force and he’s got a lot of attitude. Terrence isn’t a very nice man and he’s got his problems. I think the word is ‘power-hungry.’
“So it was great to be back and working with Amanda Tapping (Dr. Helen Magnus) and (executive producer) Martin Wood, who directed the episode. A lot of familiar faces from Stargate work on the show, too, so it was a real blast to be back and reprise my Wexford character. Again, we’ll see where it goes from there.”
NEW YORK – October 13, 2010 – Marking a major expansion of its original content, Syfy.com will premiere the award-winning, steampunk digital series Riese: Kingdom Falling beginning October 26, on syfy.com/riese every Tuesday and Thursday, it was announced today by Craig Engler, Senior Vice President/General Manager, Syfy Digital.
The critically acclaimed Riese: Kingdom Falling is distributed by Fireworks International, the television and digital distribution arm of ContentFilm plc. Each episode runs approximately seven to eight minutes.
Narrated by Amanda Tapping (Sanctuary), the 10-part series stars a cavalcade of talent from the world of popular speculative drama including Christine Chatelain (The Bone Collector); Sharon Taylor (Stargate Universe); Ben Cotton (Harper’s Island), Allison Mack (Smallville); Ryan Robbins (Caprica); Patrick Gilmore (Stargate Universe); Alessandro Juliani (Battlestar Galactica) and Emilie Ullerup (Sanctuary).
The series will also be available via Sony’s PS3, Microsoft’s Xbox and Amazon.
Said Engler: “We saw Riese and thought they had done just an amazing job, and then we were able to give them some resources and bring Amanda on board to really help them take the series to the next level. I think new and existing fans will love the relaunch of the series on Syfy.com and enjoy all the new additions.”
Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and fantasy that features anachronistic technology and design elements, often from Victorian-era Britain.
Riese:Kingdom Falling won the Streamy Award for Best Cinematography in a Web Series with a further three nominations for Best Sound Design, Best Foreign Series and Art Direction. The series was shot in Vancouver, BC, created by Ryan Copple and Kaleena Kiff, and produced by Galen Fletcher and Nicholas Humphries.
ABOUT RIESE: KINGDOM FALLING
Eleysia is a dying kingdom where resources are dwindling and compassion is fading. Distrust and anxiety have clouded people’s minds, causing a regression into primitive ways of thinking. People have grown restless, almost feral. Rituals and mythology have resurged, and the darker side of mankind has begun to reveal itself.
Riese (Christine Chatelain), a wanderer, travels across the decaying lands of Eleysia with her wolf, Fenrir. Marked as a heretic by religious group The Sect and the new Empress, Amara, Riese must evade their assassins and discover their true intentions for Eleysia.
Riese is the Crown Princess of Eleysia, forced to flee into the wilds after her family was slaughtered. She will soon serve as a catalyst for a disparate group of supposed heretics, the Resistance, launching them into civil war.

Wray Douglas – Joseph Mallozzi wrote in his weblog on September 10, “Today, we said goodbye to Special Efffects Wiz Wray Douglas who rides off into the sunset after a dozen+ years spent sparking, flaming, dropping, ratcheting, and generally blowing all manner of shit up here on Stargate. You’ll be missed, buddy.” Douglas has appeared in several behind-the-scenes features over the years to share many of his trade secrets. There’s a video currently available at MGM’s Official website concerning the flame thrower Greer used in SGU 1.06 “Water”. SG-1 fans may recall one of his most dramatic explosions, which he got only one chance to get right: the destruction of the Abydos pyramid in “Full Circle”.
Fake Twitter Warning! – Jason Momoa and Robert Carlyle are NOT, repeat NOT, on Twitter. Those accounts using their names are not theirs!
Season Two will premiere on Tuesday, September 28, at 9 PM ET on Syfy. The channel recently announced that Caprica will follow at 10 PM ET starting October 5. Stargate Universe
STARGATE UNIVERSE – Season 2 Premieres Tuesday, September 28, at 9PM (NEW NIGHT) – Stargate Universe returns with 20 all-new episodes for season two. SGU follows a band of soldiers, scientists and civilians, who must fend for themselves as they are forced through a Stargate when their hidden base comes under attack. The desperate survivors emerge aboard an ancient ship, which is locked on an unknown course and unable to return to Earth. In the new season, the team fights to take back the ship from the Lucian Alliance, who transported themselves on board Destiny with plans to take control. The team also discovers their true mission. It’s not about going home, it’s about going further. Season two guest stars include Robert Knepper (Heroes, Prison Break) and Julie McNiven (Supernatural, Mad Men) for a multi-episode arc in which they portray members of the Lucian Alliance. Also, series star Robert Carlyle makes his directorial debut in episode 4, Pathogen. Robert Cooper and Brad Wright, of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, serve as executive producers and writers. SGU is produced and distributed by MGM Worldwide Television Distribution.
Sanctuary
SANCTUARY – Season 3 Premieres Tuesday, September 28 at 10pm (NEW NIGHT) – Syfy’s original series Sanctuary returns this fall with an all-new 20-episode season. Season three picks up from the adrenaline-fueled action of season two, which raised the stakes for the brilliant scientist Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) and her team, who use their unique combination of instinct, medicine and cutting-edge science and technology to find and aid a clandestine population of beings that the world refuses to believe exist. In season three, the team will face a host of new and daunting abnormals, embark on adventures with both new and familiar faces and unravel some of the secrets woven through the Sanctuary’s rich past.
This season will also feature a two-episode arc for guest-star Polly Walker (Caprica, Rome). Sanctuary also stars Robin Dunne as forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman, Agam Darshi as the quick-witted Kate Freelander, Ryan Robbins as tech wiz Henry Foss and Christopher Heyerdahl as the sinister John Druitt.
One of television’s most groundbreaking series, shooting almost entirely on green screen, Sanctuary was the first television series in North America to use the RED camera exclusively. Its stunning visual effects were nominated for a 2008 Emmy Award. Created by Damian Kindler (Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis), Sanctuary is produced in association with Syfy and is distributed by Tricon Films and Television. Season three of the series is executive produced by Damian Kindler, Amanda Tapping, Martin Wood, Keith Beedie and Tricon Films.
