Summary
Teleportation technology includes those devices that dematerialize matter in order to transfer it to another location where it is almost instantaneously rematerialized.
Stargate References
Stargate - The Stargate was designed by an Alteran named Amelius millions of years ago. The first Stargate network was built by the Ancients (the Altera) in the Milky Way (the Stargate found in Antarctica on Earth was possibly the first and oldest). Stargates are used in tandem. Once the two Stargates are connected to form a stable wormhole, the originating Stargate dematerializes the objects (including living beings) and the destination Stargate rematerializes the objects. This process is nearly instantaneous, with the timing for travel from one Stargate to another in the same galaxy estimated to be approximately 0.3 seconds. (Stargate: The Movie, 6.04 "Frozen", 9.13 "Ripple Effect", Stargate: The Ark of Truth).
Ring Transporter - Built by the Ancients, this device transmits a matter stream in a light beam. Matter can be transmitted in both directions simultaneously. Only those items within the rings themselves are dematerialized, transmitted, and then rematerialized, so it is possible for someone who is not completely within the rings' circle to be killed (such as the Anubis guard from Ra's army on Abydos). Rings are used for relatively short distances, such as between ship and ship, ship and planet, and two locations within the same building or temple complex. The Ori, however, had ring transporters that were capable of planet-to-planet transmission. It was also possible for a complete matter stream to be transmitted across the great distance between the Milky Way and Ori home galaxies with the boost of the energy of two black holes (one in each galaxy), such as was the case when Vala Mal Doran's matter stream from aboard a Goa'uld cargo ship was transmitted to a ring platform in the village of Ver Isca in the Ori home galaxy. (Stargate: The Movie, 3.13 "The Devil You Know Part 2", 4.17 "Absolute Power", 5.08 "The Tomb", 9.03 "Origin Part 3", 9.06 "Beachhead", 9.19 "Crusade Part 1")
Asgard Transporter Obelisk - Three Asgard Transporter Obelisk configurations were visited by SG-1 on two different planets. Two of them were on Cimmeria: The scanner and transporter obelisk was at the Stargate to determine if new arrivals were Jaffa or Goa'uld hosts. If so, they were transported inside a mountain that contained a device called "Thor's Hammer" that would kill the Goa'uld, but allow the host to pass through. The second obelisk was in the woods and associated with Thor's Hall of Might. The transporter was activated when the large red "stone" was pressed. Transportation from the surface to the Hall of Might was two-way, whereas the trip from the Stargate to the Hammer labyrinth was strictly one-way. The second planet that had an Asgard Transporter Obelisk was K'Tau. On this planet, the obelisk was inside a temple and connected to its partner in the Hall of Wisdom. In each of these three locations, the Asgard left holographic messages, but in the case of the Hall of Might and the Hall of Wisdom, direct communications with an Asgard was made possible using their highly-advanced holographic technology. (1.10 "Thor's Hammer", 2.06 "Thor's Chariot", 5.05 "Red Sky")
Spirit Teleportation - The Great Spirits of PXY-887 are an alien form who have the ability to morph their appearances. They also demonstrated great mental powers, including making a person vanish and reappear somewhere else. The means by which they did this may not necessarily be considered technological, since their methods were not revealed, but with a quick clap of the fists or with the mere thought, the Spirits were able to effectively and nearly instantaneously teleport people in a flash of bright white light (and in some instances, there was a long period of time between the disappearance and reappearance of the individuals). (2.13 "Spirits")
Asgard Beaming Technology - Asgard beaming technology functions as a teleportation device, designed mostly for ship to planet and vice versa applications. Point to point beaming within a ship is considered a much trickier application, although still possible. The beaming technology was installed onboard Asgard ships. In addition, the Asgard donated their beaming technology to the Prometheus and to the Daedalus-class ships of Earth. After Anubis stole the plans for beaming technology from Thor's mind, ships of Anubis, Osiris, and Ba'al were known to use Asgard beaming technology. (3.03 "Fair Game", 3.22 "Nemesis", 6.17 "Disclosure", 7.15 "Chimera", 8.17 "Reckoning Part 2")
Crystal Skull - The crystal skull is alien technology that acts as both a transporter across space (planet to planet) and as a transdimensional device that, when activated, shifts individuals into an alternate dimension. To analysts on Earth, it appeared to be carved from a single crystal against the grain. Stargate Command eventually found that it was associated with the "Giant Aliens" of P7X-377. (3.21 "Crystal Skull")
Gadmeer Teleportation Technology - The Gadmeer were a sulfur-based lifeform that built a technologically-advanced civilization over 1000 years ago. Their civilization was 10,000 years old when a superior military power overcame them. They preserved themselves on a large terraforming starship that scanned several million planets to determine the location of their new home. Their teleportation technology was built as part of the legacy aboard the starship, which was automated with extremely advanced artificial intelligence. The Gadmeer Teleportation Technology surrounded each individual object to be transported with circles of bright red-orange light, which brightened during the dematerialization and rematerialization process. Members of SG-1 were teleported from P5S-381 to the control center of the starship, which had been prepared to receive their lifeforms. The technology also teleported objects from one location on the planet to another, apparently without requiring rematerialization on the starship first. (4.09 "Scorched Earth")
Aschen Teleportation Technology - In an alternate timeline, the Aschen and Earth entered an alliance to see to the end of the Goa'uld. The Aschen were hundreds of years further in their technology than Earth, and their teleportation system was installed throughout various key locations, such as outside the J. R. Reed Space Terminal in Washington where the Stargate was used for interplanetary travel. Travelers stood on a triangular platform in front of a pedestal console that stood about three feet tall. After inputting their destination coordinates into the console, the travelers were surrounded by a cylinder of blue-white light, dematerialized, sent to the destination platform, surrounded by another cylinder of blue-white light, and rematerialized. Limited by the confines of the platform, the transporter could only handle two adults at a time standing side-by-side. Because this technology was depicted in a future version of an alternate timeline (in the year 2010 to SG-1's 2001), it is unclear if the Aschen of SG-1's present timeline actually have this technology, since all contact was cut off with them after their ulterior motives for killing all of Earth's population and taking the planet for themselves was discovered. (4.16 "2010", 5.10 "2001")
Furling Transport Portal - This portal, or doorway, was created by a group of Furlings who wished to establish a paradise on the moon to the planet for only the "righteous" who received an invitation that was in the form of a combination key device. Those who used the transporter stepped through a bright "sheet" of light that teleported them without advanced weapons to the moon. This transport was one-way. The design of the key device itself pointed to the moon as the destination of the teleportation. Unfortunately, there was no utopian civilization awaiting those who traveled through the portal in modern times. (6.15 "Paradise Lost")
Unidentified Alien Transport Technology - Both the aliens and their means of transport were unidentified when the crew of the Prometheus encountered them in the Milky Way while on return trip home from Tagrea (P3X-744). These aliens attacked the Prometheus without provocation, beamed away all of the crew except for Carter, and returned the crew when Carter helped them get out of being stuck in a gaseous anomaly. Each person had their own sheets of bright white light that rippled when being restored. No mention of this incident was made afterward, so the identity of the aliens remains a mystery. (7.13 "Grace")
Atlantis Teleporter - The teleportation system inside Atlantis itself consists of a series of designated areas enclosed in small rooms similar to elevator cars. The passengers enclose themselves in the room, select their destinations on a panel on the back wall, and are then transported to their destination. The passengers are dematerialized with a flash of bright white light, similar to the light seen when using the ring transpoters, but this particular mode of teleportation appears to be more sophisticated, yet limited to short-distance, one-way travel. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.03 "Hide and Seek")
Eye of the Gods - The Eye of the Gods was left by the Ancients of P9G-844 and found and used by the Sodan Jaffa who discovered the planet 5,000 years ago. The technology is hidden inside a stone obelisk and transports people from the site of one Eye to that of another. The user inputs a code and all of those within a close proximity are transported. Similar obelisks were discovered on planets used by Morgan Le Fay to hide Merlin in stasis. These obelisks automatically dialed the Stargate to other planets within Morgan's private network and transported people, as well as Merlin's lab, through the Stargate. (9.08 "Babylon", 10.11 "The Quest Part 2")
Wraith Transporter - Wraith facilities are very large, so to get from one place to another quickly, the Wraith have teleportation devices installed that are similar to Atlantis's teleporters. There are various teleportation rooms that have closing doors similar to an elevator car, but the destinations can be in the open on platforms (similar to the Ancients' ring transporter). The travelers are swept up in a sheet of light, similar to the scooping technology used on their Darts to obtain and transport humans from planets to their massive Hive ships. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.03 "Reunion")
Tok'ra's Symbiote Extraction Device - The Tok'ra have had several methods of extracting a symbiote from the host during the last 2000 years, but usually these extraction processes were risky because the symbiote had the ability to release a fatal toxin into the host's nervous system while being extracted (usually, this behavior was that of a Goa'uld while being forced out of a host). Most of the procedures were done surgically, but the idea of removing a symbiote from a host using Asgard Beaming Technology came from the Asgard Hermiod who had been assigned as the Asgard adviser on the Daedalus. Hermiod successfully removed the symbiote from the commander of the starship, Col. Steven Caldwell, using precise calculations. Apparently, the Tok'ra were also given access to this beaming technology after the Asgard gifted Earth, the Tok'ra's ally, with the Asgard Computer Core. The new extraction process pinpoints the exact location of the symbiote, pins down the host's head to keep him steady, and beams the symbiote into a liquid-filled container. If the symbiote is to be executed, as was the case with Ba'al, then the Tok'ra break the container to expose the symbiote to the air where it dies. (2.12 "The Tok'ra Part 2", 3.15 "Pretense", 7.15 "Chimera", 8.18 "Threads", 10.19 "Dominion", 10.20 "Unending", Stargate: Continuum; Stargate Atlantis: 2.13 "Critical Mass")
Kiryk's Personal Teleportation Device - Obtained from a technologically advanced society in the Pegasus Galaxy, the Personal Teleportation Device was used by the Runner Kiryk to stay ahead of the Wraith who were hunting him. The device fused with his skin the moment he put it on, and since that time, he learned to use it with great efficiency. The device had a limited range and it took time for it to charge between activations. To transport, Kiryk would touch the center of the device when the indicator lights were green. How he was able to determine his destination was not revealed. If he was touching another person, that person would be transported with him, but this taxed the device more than a single-person transport did. The device that Kiryk had was short circuited when Dr. Keller used a defibrillator on him to knock out his tracking device (that the Wraith embedded into his back), but Dr. McKay made a temporary patch that allowed Kiryk to use it a few times before it failed. The originating civilization for the device is still unknown. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.09 "Tracker") |
